eggandonion
The world has quite a quota of stupid selfish people. Sad

SionnachRua · 12/09/2020 19:21

@honeyrider

A lot of families are hiring bouncy castles for their own families and not having big parties.
A school near me cancelled their Communion for this reason. Reports of parents hiring bouncy castles, marquees, people flying in from around the world...they did not want all of those children rocking up at school on the following Monday! Not sure if parents will have to sort the Communion out by themselves or if it has just been postponed to a later date.
eggandonion · 12/09/2020 20:23

All the unworn communion and debs dresses make me sad. I live near a school, all the leaving cert drama. I didn't realise how much other people's events are part of my year.

OrangeGeckoWithBlackSpots · 12/09/2020 23:00

There was a bouncy castle on the green area down my estate last weekend. It started just for the children in one family (very extended - looked like about six families to me). By the end of the day it was a communal estate bouncy castle, and was taken over by a crowd of teenagers at about 9 pm. It was there all night, goodness knows how many people used it and in what state of drunkenness.

I never thought of the poor kids who are missing their debs Sad. Communiions and confirmations will be rescheduled one way or another, but the debs, and the school graduation, is such a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and so important for school-leavers.

eggandonion · 12/09/2020 23:50

My daughters and their friends spent the whole of sixth year discussing the debs and arranging cousins to go with people with no dates, and booking nail appointments and telling me what neighbours they wanted to admire them. It was great, so I feel sorry for the kids whose plans fell apart.
I must ask them if they would prefer a night at the debs or a bouncy castle. I think the latter. They do tend to be taken over by teenagers...

Quarterback11 · 14/09/2020 13:18

@Lipz The travel advice is to be updated tomorrow, I think, in line with EU guidelines. UK cases per 100,000 in the past 14 days is 51. Ireland 45. So very similar.

I'm a little worried at the number of UK folk who are unable to get a test though, that will keep numbers down!

Quarterback11 · 14/09/2020 13:23

Very quick turnaround time for testing here today (ROI).

9am Phoned GP surgery
10am GP phoned back, referred for test
10.30am Got text with appointment for 12.15pm
12.20pm I was driving out of the test centre.

Hope they are as quick with the results now so the kids can go back to school if its negative.

chartreuse · 14/09/2020 13:51

@Quarterback11 dc had a test a couple of weeks ago with results back in less than 24 hours. Negative thankfullly, but now another dc has symptoms so we are starting the process all over again.

Big south county Dub school shut with positive cases today.

7Days · 14/09/2020 14:05

Out school has just given us a date for the Communion.
What the hell are the current rules? Ideally I'd have 2 sets of gps, 2 uncles plus families, and an auntie.
Probably too much?

KindergardenCentre · 14/09/2020 16:08

Any idea which school it is @chartreuse?

Smurf123 · 14/09/2020 16:26

@7Days family friends son had his communion on Saturday- only 1 family member allowed in church rest to watch via web cam🤨 not quite the same

7Days · 14/09/2020 16:44

Gosh really Smurf
We haven't gotten any details yet from the church

OrangeGeckoWithBlackSpots · 14/09/2020 19:06

Quarterback, they seem to have a bonkers way of testing in the UK - anyone can book a test any time for any reason. Here (I think) tests have to be booked through a GP. Presumably that contributes to the difficulties in getting tested in the UK; test capacity is being used up by people who, if they lived here, wouldn't need tests perhaps?

Surely communions lead to house parties - no point in reducing the numbers in church if every family has 50 people and a bouncy castle ...

thelegohooverer · 14/09/2020 19:14

I know of 2 people who struggled to get a test here because they hadn’t been to their gp for years and they were no longer on file as patients. Even though hse says any gp can refer they struggled to find one who would, even though they needed a test result to return to work.

thelegohooverer · 14/09/2020 19:14

(and distinctly had symptoms)

halfpasteleven · 15/09/2020 10:35

I'm really hoping the new roadmap will be clear for us all when they release it today. It's clear as mud at the moment.

Quarterback11 · 15/09/2020 13:30

Does this help??

Coronavirus ROI/NI part 3
Quarterback11 · 15/09/2020 13:38

Too blurry, sorry.

Lipz · 15/09/2020 17:55

Oh lordy cabinet gone into isolation 😂😂. Very high numbers again today. They can't leave Dublin on stage 2 with those numbers.

eggandonion · 15/09/2020 17:58

I hope dr Ronan is ok. And the sign language people.

SionnachRua · 15/09/2020 18:01

So...does that mean that Donnelly went to work feeling sick? Totally going against what he preaches to the public?

I should feel sorry for him being ill but I just can't bring myself to.

LadyEloise · 15/09/2020 18:30

The situation is cracked.
People who need to get tested but don't have private transport are told to take public transport to the test centre. ShockHmm

Schoolchildren ( teenagers ) kept apart in school, once school has finished absolutely no social distancing on the way home.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 15/09/2020 21:14

Donnelly's test is negative, thankfully. He got a quick result!

TheKeatingFive · 16/09/2020 12:03

These new levels have been so badly thought through.

I‘m in Dublin. Whatever about our stupid 2.5 rating, there are now heavy hints we’ll be downgraded to 3 possibly in the next day or two.

We have a hotel break booked over the weekend. If I’m going to cancel, I need to cancel by end of today, otherwise I’m charged. How are people supposed to plan anything?

yolio · 18/09/2020 00:17

Heard from a friend that food will not be allowed to be served indoors in the food pubs for two weeks. Only outdoors where they can.

Bring your terminals and your big scarf and hat so.

Weddings limited to twenty five but only from Monday, and more delights to come I suppose.

They won't say it but it looks to me like it's coming from the schools. Perfect timing, they went back two or so weeks ago + 14 days incubation, and a rather large spike resulted all of a sudden. There is a lot of concern around now re Dublin.
