Would anyone else in disability services be able to call or fax the school. My dd works in the hse, she faxes!
I imagine setting up a screening service from scratch is not easy. I have three kids working away from home, two haven't registered with local doctors. If they rang the surgery here, they might be given a testing appointment here, three hours from where they currently live.

Lipz · 04/09/2020 14:00
@chartreuse that's crazy about someone in Dublin being referred to Cork for a test. Even I'd ring Joe Duffy about that one - and I hate Joe Duffy! Anyway, I hope the test proves to be negative.

@Lipz that sounds like unnecessary bureaucracy especially when the school your DD attends is a school for severely disabled pupils. A full assessment sounds like a waste of everyone's time. If you speak to your GP, do you think he/she would do you up a letter stating that your DD has x condition/illness for x no. of years (or possibly birth?) and that an assessment is not necessary as this condition/illness has already been diagnosed. I'm assuming (at least I hope) that your DD has a medical card. Is the report likely to cost you extra?
Dd has a medical card but for letters, certs etc we have to pay from 20.00 euro up. Depending on how much is printed, one page usually 20.00.

I spoke with the school yesterday to voice my confusion, I explained that they know dds conditions etc, they said this is coming from the dept of health and not them, that the dept of health want exact numbers of who hasn't returned to school and they want it printed their condition and due to their condition they are more likely to contract covid.

I really don't know whether to believe this, I've never had cause to question them before, special needs schools do have lots of red tape and paper work, but this seems extreme.

I've basically been told, get the report or she returns to school.

eggandonion · 04/09/2020 14:14

Has she someone like a speech therapist or ot you could call? Even if they are not able to provide the letter they might be able to back you up. My dd works in disability, and would certainly call the school and demand clarification - she is very bossy and likes an argument on behalf of clients.

OrangeGeckoWithBlackSpots · 04/09/2020 14:29

I know it sounds daft, but why not write a report yourself. Head it up "medical report" and her name and the date and include the information Tayto suggests. Where it comes to stating her diagnosis, put "see attached" and add a copy of something official

Put in that she will not be returning to school until at least X date - for example September 30th..

Then at the bottom put "official report to follow" but don't say when.

Tell them this is a temporary report that they can forward on to the Dept of Education; by the time they get back to query it we'll be a month down the road and things may have changed.

I used to have a letter from my son's psych that I used for loads of things like this; I just photocopied it and used it even years later for things like school applications, disability payments, etc. His diagnosis (autism) didn't change, so the date didn't matter.

Taytocrisps · 04/09/2020 18:22

To be fair to the Department of Health, they might be afraid that some neglectful or abusive parents could take advantage of the situation to keep their DC home from school without any good reason. So they're looking for some form of proof that a medical condition exists. But surely a letter from a GP or consultant would suffice - instead of demanding yet another assessment.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 04/09/2020 18:38

I agree. A letter from your GP should suffice. Undertaking another assessment doesn't seem necessary to me either.

LadyEloise · 05/09/2020 09:59

The authorities like to make things difficult - bureaucracy - publicans are up in arms because they've to keep records of what people ate for 28 days.

I'm sorry that the authorities are making things more difficult for you Lipz.

eggandonion · 05/09/2020 13:57

Youd think a delicate child staying out of school just now would be good for everyone.

Iblinkedandiamold · 05/09/2020 18:29

@lipz that's crazy. So sorry you have to go through all this stress. Over 200 cases today, no wonder you're keeping her off.

thelegohooverer · 07/09/2020 22:48

To be fair to the Department of Health, they might be afraid that some neglectful or abusive parents could take advantage of the situation to keep their DC home from school without any good reason I’m probably very cynical but I don’t really believe this. If you decide to homeschool officially, apart from one notional visit, there is no effort to safeguard children. They don’t get included in the vaccination programme or dental checks so effectively no adult authorities see them. I’m a little worried about one of the dc’s friends whose dm is homeschooling this year as I know she has high anxiety and is quite deep into some of the conspiracy theories. Obviously there may be good reasons for it, and it could be a wonderful success and I really, really hope so. But there’s really not much in place in the way of a safety net for that child.

None of that is a negative judgement on your situation @Lipz Huge sympathy for what you’re going through.

LadyEloise · 08/09/2020 19:33

Will Dublin have a lockdown ?
58.7 cases per 100,000
307 confirmed new cases.
The wet pubs are reopening. Is that wise ????

teaorwine · 08/09/2020 20:59

The news reported that wet pubs would open in areas without restrictions..... think Dublin will have restrictions by the weekend

halfpasteleven · 09/09/2020 06:06

Limerick is also an area of concern... I wonder if there will be restrictions there as well?
I think now that the schools are back there is almost an air of complacency creeping in.. especially in the community

321mamma · 09/09/2020 06:15

I'm in Dublin, I hope they hurry up with the restrictions. I don't know what the delay is. So many kids out of my dc classes & kids getting sent home. The longer they delay the quicker its going to spread & the whole country will be affected. Miss Leo & Simon.

LadyEloise · 09/09/2020 19:02

@321mamma
If the children are being sent home are you being informed if they have tested positive for Covid19?
Are whole classes being sent home ?

321mamma · 09/09/2020 19:08

No kids in all 3 of dcs classes are being sent home with coughs or sore throats. I gather they are being tested & them isolating for 48 hours if test comes back negative..

Lipz · 10/09/2020 17:27

The UK isn't on our green list for the ROI? I was checking the list but August is the last update? Does anyone know if this will be updated soon? It's not for me personally but a family member who is doing their 3rd visit over since March. I want to be armed with info this time as last time I was called neurotic.

Bedroomdilemma · 11/09/2020 21:55

The U.K. is not on the green list, which is utterly bonkers because as I understand it, their numbers are lower than Ireland’s, and indeed lower than Greece, which is on the green list. Such a load of nonsense.

OrangeGeckoWithBlackSpots · 12/09/2020 10:14

I'm a bit pissed off that the government are allowing NPHET recommendations to be announced by the press and then waiting a couple of days to issue guidelines themselves.

Back in March/April, the scientists advised Leo, then he made decisions and stood up and told us all, together, what we should be doing. Now Micheal seems to wait and see what public opinion is before he makes decisions. It's all so up in the air and unclear.

I mean, in Dublin, will the pubs open or not? I assume not. Are people allowed to have one visitor or six, from two or three households? Do they have enough tests, or not? Presumably not since they've halted testing in meat plants.

I don't have a problem with the actual decisions once made, it's the umming and awing and delay and seeming inability to make the decisions in the first place that's really pissing me off.

Sorry, rant over Grin

KindergardenCentre · 12/09/2020 13:14

Yes, the communication plan is bloody non existent at the moment. I necer thought I'd year for the blue shirts to be running the place. Mind you, I think Leo timed things well and he wouldn't be half as glorious himself at this stage.

thelegohooverer · 12/09/2020 14:17

@OrangeGeckoWithBlackSpots I agree. The strategy seems to be: fly a kite with nphet advice, govt takes the direction of least resistance, blaming nphet if it’s too unpopular. It’s the most pathetic excuse for actual leadership.

321mamma · 12/09/2020 16:59

I think the house hold gatherings is so ridiculous, how are they going to monitor it.
They basically want people meeting in "controlled settings" to spend money 🤔

eggandonion · 12/09/2020 17:10

I was out on Thursday and was overtaken by two bouncy Castle vans. Where I live, a bouncy castle usually involves about twenty kids bouncing and a lot of parents drinking. I'd feel safer having dinner in a controlled setting than being in a neighbour's kitchen with random people.

honeyrider · 12/09/2020 18:55

A lot of families are hiring bouncy castles for their own families and not having big parties.

eggandonion · 12/09/2020 18:57

Perhaps where you are, not near me. My anti vaxx neighbour had her extended family round last weekend.
