Iblinkedandiamold, it sounds like she vented out her frustrations on you. Parents aren't allowed on the grounds or in the building of our primary.

Lipz, something has to change. How is that going to be sustainable...?

Iblinkedandiamold · 31/08/2020 22:03

@Lipz you're right, if you sit back nothing will change. I would email Joe too, I always joke about that, "in Ireland we dont call the guards, we call Joe Duffy"Grin
In this case though I would. He's probably getting loads of emails about it already. The more he gets the more likely he is to die a feature on it.

chartreuse · 01/09/2020 17:07

I'm so frustrated, a family member has been told they are a possible contact and needs a test, there is a test centre 5 minutes away and another 20 mins away, but the appointment they've been given is an hours drive away. I heard on the radio that so many people aren't turning up for their test appointments and now I know why. If you want people to comply you've got to make it easy for them.

I'm in a vulnerable category but the only option available is for me to drive them an hour there and an hour back. If they are positive the chances are I will be too by the end of the journey.

I'm going to look into getting a private test but I really shouldn't have to.

chartreuse · 01/09/2020 19:33

We've been trumped by DS friend who needed a test (in Dublin) and was given an appointment in ...Cork!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 01/09/2020 20:16

No way @chartreuse! It's the first I've heard of it.
Where is the logic in that?!?!

halfpasteleven · 01/09/2020 22:19

@chartreuse why are they giving tests like this? What is the reasoning behind it? Dublin to cork makes Absaloutly no sense...
If they want effective testing then they have to keep it local

eggandonion · 01/09/2020 23:07

I think it might be human error by whoever put details on the system?

chartreuse · 02/09/2020 09:39

I've been back on to the GP this morning but they have no control over the allocation of tests, and of course you can't talk to anyone who does. I've emailed and hopefully something will come of that. I don't particularly want to pay €180 for a private test especially as I'm guessing there'll be lots of scenarios like this over the winter with 4 dc at various stages of education

Just from speaking to friends this doesn't seem to be a one off. If so they really need to get a grip of that. If you're asking asymptomatic people to get a test, you have to make it as local and easy as possible otherwise they'll go 'ah sure, I'm fine'

LadyEloise · 02/09/2020 10:47

Gosh @chartreuse I would get in touch with local TD - very vocal opposition TD preferably if the one in government is no use.
Otherwise talk to Joe or the Department of Health.
There is something seriously wrong in the system if people living in Dublin get Covid19 testing appointments in Cork.
Could you text Newstalk - it's a pity Ciara
Kelly doesn't do her lunchtime show anymore. She'd be on the case snd call it out for its madness. She is a doctor - GP.
Or call Clare Byrnes show on RTE now ?

I would.

LadyEloise · 02/09/2020 10:50

Head of HSE guy on Today with Clare Byrne right now.
I'd email / ring the programme pronto.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 02/09/2020 11:08

You really shouldn't have to go for a private test, chartreuse, nor should you compromise your safety by driving to another test centre with the suspected case. I completely agree with you. They need to make it as easy as possible for people to be tested if they are serious about compliance. Sigh.

chartreuse · 02/09/2020 11:41

@LadyEloise I actually did text Clare Byrne! I guess she probably got lots of texts, hasn't read mine yet!

So we got another appointment for tomorrow, still a good 30 mins away and we'll pass 2 other test centres on the way, but we've taken it. Will have to drive with masks on and windows down. Hope it's stopped pouring by then

LadyEloise · 02/09/2020 12:03

@chartreuse I also contacted the show after reading of the ridiculous Covid19 testing arrangements.
The more of us who do, the quicker it gets publicised and arrangements will hopefully change.

Lipz · 02/09/2020 12:45

The 2nd case confirmed in a school in lucan. Class sent home.

What's annoying me is Nora the minister saying schools are not to inform other parents of confirmed cases, only for the principals emailing other parents no one would know. I do firmly believe we have a right to know who's got cases.

I had mentioned in earlier posts that I didn't send my disabled dd back as she has many health conditions, I've now been informed that I have to get her medically assessed and a report done stating that due to covid she can't attend school. This is disgraceful, they know her conditions and now I have to some how bring her to my gp and get a full assessment done.

The government are lying about the covid deaths, dhs uncle died last week, he had covid, he was admitted for covid, he was treated for covid but on his death cert it states pneumonia?!

Sk1nnyB1tch · 02/09/2020 15:27

Lipz is it the school telling you they need a report? If I was you I'd do nothing. I had to get an insurance report done once and it was €200 and that's before the risk of bringing her to the GP at the moment.
I have a friend who never paid the "voluntary contribution" to her son's secondary school in the six years he attended. She succeeded in this act of rebellion by just ignoring all communications on it.

Lipz · 02/09/2020 17:06

Yeah the school emailed saying that this is coming from the dept of health and that any child not attending school due to covid that they need a medical assessment and a cert. Dds school is only for the severely disabled so the majority have serious health conditions. The school know her illnesses, they have 100s of reports over the years stating her conditions, every year we fill out numerous forms in case anything has changed.

I rang the gp, she won't see dd, said she'd do a zoom call Monday. It's just all so random. Do they think I'm keeping her home for the fun of it. Just sick of it all.

LadyEloise · 02/09/2020 19:08

@Lipz you sound like you're at the end of your tether and I don't blame you.

Blo*dy bureaucracy.

Iblinkedandiamold · 03/09/2020 19:38

First week as manager and I'm messing up left, right and centre. Nothing too major but still. I am exhausted and I had a parent question today why we weren't wearing masks. She put it as "I'm just curious.." but she wasnt happy really.
I think I am going to sleep all weekend

LadyEloise · 03/09/2020 20:05

@chartreuse
Apparently many people are not turning up for their Covid19 test.
I'm sure SOME of those are finding the logistics of getting to the test centre too difficult.
I don't blame them if they've to go to Cork from Dublin for testing or vice versa.

Have you told your local TD of the issue you have re testing ?

chartreuse · 03/09/2020 20:21

@LadyEloise I just saw that the HSE say 25% are missing their test appointments, I'm sure you're right, a lot must be logistics.

We went for the test today, it was very quick and efficient and the staff we very kind. We live in the Dun Laoghaire area, which is pretty big and densely populated. There was a test centre in the car park of the hospital in the centre of DL, but apparently that closed so the nearest test centres are now Wicklow town or Clonskeagh. With traffic it was 50 mins to get there and an hour back. I know they can't have test centres dotted all over the place but I think that's crazy.

Good idea to contact TDs, I'll do that.

I might name change now!

LadyEloise · 03/09/2020 20:24

I hope your test is negative

chartreuse · 03/09/2020 22:42

Thanks! I'm slightly in denial, fingers crossed.

Iblinkedandiamold · 04/09/2020 06:54

@chartreuse fingers crossed for you.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 04/09/2020 09:31

Keeping fingers crossed for you too, chartreuse. I also wondered about the logistics of it after hearing your story.
I'd say it's exhausting, iblinkedandiamold, being on your guard all the time.
My youngest has a cold and a tickly cough. I kept her out of school and rang the GP for advice about sending her back in.
There's going to be a lot of coming and going this year.

Taytocrisps · 04/09/2020 09:56

@chartreuse that's crazy about someone in Dublin being referred to Cork for a test. Even I'd ring Joe Duffy about that one - and I hate Joe Duffy! Anyway, I hope the test proves to be negative.

@Lipz that sounds like unnecessary bureaucracy especially when the school your DD attends is a school for severely disabled pupils. A full assessment sounds like a waste of everyone's time. If you speak to your GP, do you think he/she would do you up a letter stating that your DD has x condition/illness for x no. of years (or possibly birth?) and that an assessment is not necessary as this condition/illness has already been diagnosed. I'm assuming (at least I hope) that your DD has a medical card. Is the report likely to cost you extra?
