As well as the environmental cost, there is also the cost of buying water for every day! Have three children in primary, for all of whom I have already just purchased re-usable water bottles! Confused

user1496146479 · 21/08/2020 09:56

We have no homework for the first month, to be reviewed in October! Kids delighted about that part! Grin

Just sitting outside secondary school where GCSE students from yesterday had a meeting at 9.30am.
Yesterday it was all about social distance wear face mask today I have seen at least 200 go in different groups no social distance no masks so that's what back to school will be like.
Don't know what it is like inside as they are still inside.

eggandonion · 21/08/2020 10:36

Did Barry tip off the journalist?

chartreuse · 21/08/2020 12:07

I want the old government back too @LadyEloise

You just have to scratch the surface and there's the 'old' FF, as arrogant and out of touch as ever. I agree MM is totally out of his depth, it was big mistake to switch Taoiseach and health minister at such a crucial time. Lives literally depend on the public having trust in government right now, and they can't even communicate clearly what they want us to do let alone do it themselves.

They're going to need a spin doctor with magical powers to get the public back on side after this.

EarlofEggMcMuffin · 21/08/2020 13:33

I just saw that Calleary and Buttimer have resigned.

For flips sake.

Mehole should have come in to Government, announced that there would be no Dail recess due to the gravity of the situation - that's leadership. People have lost their jobs, if your business is a family pub, you're screwed, if you're a front line worker you're exhausted.

He should have been out front wearing a mask and ensuring the the Parliamentary Party were on-message....no gatherings, no drink driving, no going to funerals, no holidays abroad for 24months. What hardship is that compared with people who have died, or who are left with long term disability due to Covid.

It gives the impression that, however nice he is, he has no control over his party. OR, even worse, that the niceness and discipline in FF was a cover to get them into Govt, and now that they're in, back to the same old same old.

Very very frustrating when teachers and Principals are bending over backwards to get kids back to school , when business owners are put to the pin of their collar, and when there has been 6months of hardship.

How out of touch can they be?

honeyrider · 21/08/2020 13:45

Mehole is a relic of the old FF, but why are we surprised considering he was a long time at the top table of the old FF who bankrupted the country. He's lost the people who now have no faith in him.

Mehole, conehead and Eamonn Ryan are like the three stooges.

OrangeGeckoWithBlackSpots · 21/08/2020 13:52

I see Leo has immediately taken the party whip from the FG senators who were at the dinner. FF have now done the same, presumably shamed into it Hmm

Noel Grealish was there - he's a sitting TD but independent so presumably won't resign; I wonder what other sitting TDs were there.

LadyEloise · 21/08/2020 16:02

Did Phil Hogan fly in from Brussels ?
If he did, when ?
Did he need to self isolate ?

I haven't forgotten the fiasco he helped make with Irish Water, Siteserve ( installled water meters ) and being rewarded by Enda Kenny with a fine big job in Europe.

Apileofballyhoo · 21/08/2020 16:26

Fair play to Leo. Can't believe how shite FF are being. It's not that I was expecting them to be any good, but not this bad iyswim. DH is now not wanting DS to go back to school, and DS really needs to go back. I'm fairly happy it's safe enough but DH is terrified. Thank you FF.

halfpasteleven · 21/08/2020 18:04

Kildare in lockdown for two more weeks..
I feel really sorry for anyone there that has to remain closed/cannot go on holiday/staycation especially after the events of Wednesday night.

TheKeatingFive · 21/08/2020 18:05

Especially as the conditions in meat factories are not the fault of the ordinary man on the street and something to government should be tackling properly.

LadyEloise · 21/08/2020 18:26

The government wouldn't do anything to upset the big bods in agriculture- anyone remember the Beef Tribunal ?
As decent human beings they should treat their employees fairly.

Apileofballyhoo · 21/08/2020 18:28

Did anyone hear Barry Cowan was made resign because he wouldn't play ball with the beef barons?

LadyEloise · 21/08/2020 18:40

No.@Apileofballyhoo

Cynical me says his brother was happy to play golf with a banking baron while in office.

mummabear1967 · 21/08/2020 18:44

Can you actually be prosecuted now in NI for having more than 6 people inside your house? I know this is unlikely but say the police witnessed it, could they fine you? Is the limit on people at private gatherings not just guidance rather than legislation?

EarlofEggMcMuffin · 21/08/2020 19:06

Did anyone see Michéal's interview on SixOne?

It was like watching Junior Dáil.
Very disappointed.
I used to be a bit of a Michéal fan, and wanted him to do well. He always seemed a decent man.

Mary Lou must be delighted...she's kicking a ball at an open goal.

honeyrider · 21/08/2020 19:06

Simon Coveney's wife is Larry Goodman's niece. Enough said.

OrangeGeckoWithBlackSpots · 21/08/2020 19:44

I used to think Micheal was ok too, but I've realised that he was just not as bad as the rest of them. His problem is that he's just parroting what he's been told to say, he has little understanding of the figures or of any of the medical stuff (or the economic stuff it seems). I always felt that Leo and Simon were at least being honest, and understood the problems - in fact I remember early on being really impressed by Leo saying, in reply to a reporter, "I don't know the answer to that, but I will have it for you later today" - something that none of Boris' lot would ever say.

I never thought I'd want a FG government back Shock - I've turned into my mother.

It all goes back to the fecking tribunals, doesn't it. Beef, planning, banks, who gives a shit, we all pay for it anyway.

OrangeGeckoWithBlackSpots · 21/08/2020 19:50

I feel really sorry for kids in Kildare; what happens to those who go to school across borders? South Kildare often go into Carlow Town, West Kildare go to Edenderry and Kinnegad, Leixlip/Celbridge and Lucan children are interchangable a lot of the time.

County boundaries are really random, especially with a big, meandering, midlands county like Kildare which borders six other counties.

LadyEloise · 21/08/2020 21:11

honeyrider I'm not sure that's true re Simon Coveney's wife.

JaneJeffer · 21/08/2020 23:01

Can anyone explain why children won't pass the virus to each other at school but they might on the school bus? Hmm

mummabear1967 · 21/08/2020 23:27

@JaneJeffer

Can anyone explain why children won't pass the virus to each other at school but they might on the school bus? Hmm
I don’t understand it at all. DDs school are encouraging mask wearing in the corridors but that’s about it
JaneJeffer · 21/08/2020 23:30

It's mad Ted!

I don't understand the half capacity school bus thing. I thought it meant they would put extra buses on but now they say they will cover costs for anyone who has to take alternative transport. That will be quite a bill!

OrangeGeckoWithBlackSpots · 21/08/2020 23:35

I think the logic is that in school they are in controlled groups (allegedly), and stay with those groups, whereas obviously on the buses they are mixing with kids from different groups. The idea is that if a child tests positive, only one group will have to isolate rather than closing the entire school.

So masks need to be worn for arrival departure, transport and corridors - wherever groups cross over.

If they are really going to cover transport the taxi bill will be shocking Shock
