@wannabebetter

Is anyone else thinking things are getting more & more ridiculous re rules in different jurisdictions? Anyone travelling to ROI from GB must quarantine...but, if they fly into Belfast can just drive down! The inland waterways are full of hire boats full of GB nationals who are picking up boats in NI (Enniskillen) then immediately setting off for The Shannon(you can get all the way to Limerick) it's crazy....
Yeah it’s not very consistent tbh. I do think it should be essential travel only. I know it Would be nice to get abroad, but it’s beyond me why people really need to go abroad this summer considering all that’s gone and is going on

It really needs an all island approach to be holistic.

Definitely! I can’t see the DUP liking that though. I’m a unionist and even I agree it would make sense. Nationalism and unionism shouldn’t even come into it
wannabebetter · 25/07/2020 20:05

Yes, of course, everyone knows the virus doesn't see a border!! It just exposes NI potentially as travel between GB and ROI can essentially be facilitated via us for feck sake!!

wannabebetter · 25/07/2020 20:11

Both sides making it political - its a bloody virus & doesn't care what you believe lol!! Crazy country we live in...

Totally it’s bizarre!

Downloaded the StopCovidNI app today!

Also going out for food for the first time and I'm feeling really quite anxious about it. Confused

eggandonion · 30/07/2020 18:30

We had coffee in a hotel lounge earlier which was nice.
Bad figures here today though.

Inanutshelldaze · 30/07/2020 18:43

85 cases... i can't see the R.O.I moving onto phase 4 anytime soon...

eggandonion · 30/07/2020 20:15

The app in RoI seems to be working quite well.
I ignored someone I know in Super Valu because she wasn't wearing a mask. Why should I wear a mask to keep her safe if she doesn't? (I feel unreasonable wearing it, I hate it).

Myshitisreal · 31/07/2020 03:46

Shocking numbers for ROI figures 😔

eggandonion · 31/07/2020 08:54

Dr Ronan seems to be able to account for various clusters, and was saying the pet food workers who were in direct provision are now self isolated in city west.

theDudesmummy · 31/07/2020 12:50

If we don't move to phase 4, do schools still open (RoI)?

Catscratchedmybum · 31/07/2020 17:25

DH and I were invited to a small family wedding. We live in London but he's from ROI. We declined due to Covid etc.

Just found out his sister who also lives here, is intending to go, but to avoid quarantine is having a short holiday in a country without restrictions first and flying in from there.

Apparently 'everyone' is doing it. Is that true? She doesn't appear to care that elderly and vulnerable people will also be attending.

Lipz · 31/07/2020 18:11

It's disgraceful that the ministers are now on a 6 week holiday!! The middle of a bloody pandemic and they're finishing up till well into September. What happens now? Who watches things now? We've gotten letters from our schools saying they're waiting on more info from the government, what happens now? No one is getting holidays, people are working their arses off and loads lost jobs and many on a miserable covid pay. And they still get their holidays.

mummabear1967 · 03/08/2020 14:52

40 new cases in NI over the weekend. Anyone else think this is too high?

Yes, very worrying (although zero cases in my area in the last week).
mummabear1967 · 03/08/2020 15:34

@mrsfeatherbottom at least that is something. But yes, I seen a post on Facebook about it and the amount of people saying that 40 new cases isn’t a lot is mad!

Iblinkedandiamold · 03/08/2020 19:24

Went on my first trip to a shopping centre today. I really needed a penny's shop. I"ve never worn a mask for that long. I felt like I couldn't breath. It also made my teeth sore.
Anyway I went as soon as Penny's opened, a lot of shops weren't open till 12. It was very surreal. No one sitting on the benches eating icecream. No one really stopping and talking to eachother.
I am now broke but happy with my stuff. Grin

mummabear1967 · 06/08/2020 18:41

Oh dear oh dear... in NI, 43 new cases in one day and the R number Is now above 1

Iblinkedandiamold · 06/08/2020 20:03

69 here. I dont think I'll be going to any concerts next summer either by the looks of things.
I'll be happy if I can work all the way through this.

mrsfeatherbottom · 06/08/2020 20:13

And they have just announced that schools will be back full time!

(DD2's primary have said they are doing part time for the first two weeks regardless to ease the kids back in gently.

It’s mad!! I don’t know how this will work. I’m really not liking the sound of this. I just hope this is a blip and hopefully this isn’t the beginning of a second peak!
mrsfeatherbottom · 06/08/2020 20:24

Hospital admissions aren't going up as quickly as cases, though so I think a lot of the cases must be through track and trace, rather than from people being really sick. Treatments are better than 5 months ago so it'll not be like April again, I don't think.

I hope so! I don’t think I could be bothered with another lockdown! They’ve pushed back the reopening of wet bars and pubs till the 1st of September, I’m not that bothered about that anyway, although it is bad for those business owners
