Wondering if people are still selling/buying clothes on eBay?

Dk20 · 16/05/2020 06:14

I noticed that my local Tesco had thr clothes section cordoned off last week, prior to that they had been selling the clothes.
About a month ago, my 10 month old had grown out of his clothes and needed the next size up. I didn't want to go in to dunnes so had to order online, I really struggled to find somewhere that was delivering and had his size in stock. Also needed to get sun hats for both kids which were hard to find online.

@TempIrishName have you heard any more about people returning to your office?
Weve now been told that there is so much work needed to comply with safety regulations, no one can return to the office before August (although some want to). The only people then that will be returning are those choose to go back themselves.

ElspethFlashman · 16/05/2020 09:04

I had a patient in April who worked in Dunnes clothing section. She told me that they were down 50% on clothing sales, that they only had one or two people in the whole section and they put the immunocompromised staff there, because there was so little traffic.

But I had to go there to get shoes for the kids last week as they just keep growing, and it was much busier. And actually my colleague went in to get work trousers the other day. It's a lot of athleisure and practical stuff so I think people are thinking "I'll just pick up a few bits".

But I suppose it's allowed, so why not?

I have to say that whilst I didn't feel I needed a mask before, now that it's busier I would wear one. Because it's harder to social distance in shops now and will remain so. It's like a game of Pac Man trying to avoid people around the stacks of clothes.

I'm going to have a look at Etsy, I heard that if you sort by location there are loads of locals selling them. Obviously I have access to loads of masks at work but I don't want to nick them and besides they are absolutely horrible to wear for long periods of time. I will buy a comfy cotton one.

eggandonion · 16/05/2020 10:59

My dd wasn't supposed to be living here for several months, she came for three days. She brought some washing with her, has few spare clothes here, doesn't like any of her sister's clothes that are here - so we were glad Dunnes had some clothes available (some of their clothes are strange, not really working from home fashion).
It's not really much fun just now in any shop.

Carrie76 · 16/05/2020 11:04

My local Tesco had their clothes section cordoned off today too.

One of the mums in my kids school makes face masks. She used to make bandanas for dogs and has switched to the masks. She’s getting lots of business from the school, masks are comfy and washable.

Have to say I don’t like wearing them, but I guess needs must. I’ve just ordered some for my kids, don’t know if they’ll wear them. Does anyone have young kids wearing masks? Are we all meant to be wearing them now when shopping?

LadyEloise · 16/05/2020 11:10

Carrie76 have you a link to the website selling those face masks please ?

ElspethFlashman · 16/05/2020 11:20

The guidance says something about not necessary for either under 11s or under 13s, I can't remember which.

Inniu · 16/05/2020 13:43

I got StarWars masks for DS. He really wants to try wearing them somewhere but he hasn’t been anywhere other than for a walk/run/cycle since schools closed on March 12.

Andi2020 · 16/05/2020 14:15

Anyone else live near the border and Roi restriction lifting Ni not
There is going to be a lot off people coming out from Ni to meet up in groups of 4 or probably more.
Could both government not work together and do this and same time.
I live in Roi but my closest supermarket is NI so I am not against cross border but just work together.

Iblinkedandiamold · 16/05/2020 14:29

I've always worn a head band/scarf around my nose and mouth when shopping but I find myself getting a little complacent now. At the start 9f this I was going in with my gloves and my scarf up around half my face looking like I was about to rob the joint. Now I dont wear gloves although I santitse a lot, I dont use shopping trolleys or baskets at all, I wear my scarf mostly but sometimes I forget, I dont wipe down all my groceries as I forget sometimes. At the star I would've given a germaphob a run for their money. Grin
I need to give the preschool a good clean out too, will do that sometime between now and September. Smile

LadyEloise · 16/05/2020 17:06

I read on another thread that quite s number of children have been affected. Anyone see anything official on this ?

NewAccountForCorona · 16/05/2020 17:12

I just saw this, LadyEloise:

www.thejournal.ie/kawasaki-ireland-cases-5100401-May2020/

It seems they are investigating, not that there is any proof that children are affected. Post-viral conditions can occur after many viruses, and it seems (so far anyway) that the numbers are too tiny for anyone to know whether it will become a real risk for young children.

Carrie76 · 16/05/2020 22:02

@LadyEloise here’s her website masks I’ve ordered some more, so the kids will have some but now I’m wondering if I should’ve bothered they’re all under 10.

MehMehMeow · 16/05/2020 22:19

Our local Tesco had the clothing section cordoned off last week, but this week the racks had been reorganised into a one way system, with restricted access. You had to queue up to get inside a Tesco, followed by a further queue inside the store for clothing.

H&M are good for children’s clothing

LadyEloise · 17/05/2020 08:30

Thank you NewAccountForCorona
and Carrie76

Dk20 · 17/05/2020 08:45

The new rules seem to say I now need to wear a mask to do my weekly food shop, which I have been doing without a mask up until now..
I'll have to either buy or make some.

If DS was going to be out in shops etc, I probably would be putting one on him and explaining how best to wear them, but as he is only 6, I doubt he will be inside a shop for a long time.

Dk20 · 17/05/2020 08:47

@MehMehMeow
H&M is where I got the kids clothes in the end. Took about 2 weeks for delivery but it was worth the wait because I really dont want to be browsing around clothes shops at the minute.

NewAccountForCorona · 17/05/2020 09:30

I tried to make masks - a sort of version of the one math (thanks) explained above, but there is no chance of ds wearing one I've made - or a home made one of any type.

A few weeks ago I ordered some of these neckers from Amazon - not these exact ones, the availability and deivery times vary hugely - and they seem to work well.

I double them over and they are light and easy to breathe through. I will just put them on at shop entrance, take off carefully as soon as I come out and wash.

I suspect they won't protect me much, but I can put a square of cotton pillowcase between the two layers if I go anywhere more crowded. It seems a two-material face covering can give a little more protection.

They are acceptable on the coolness scale for ds Hmm

NewAccountForCorona · 17/05/2020 09:31

I'm fairly unimpressed by the number of responses on the other face mask thread saying "I won't wear one because I don't want to and I don't see why I should".

There are some selfish fuckers around.

TimRigginsHasMyHeart · 17/05/2020 09:59

We have a bunch of bandanas in the house (we used to live in Texas!) and think I might try and somehow make them into masks. The problem is that my sewing machine is somewhere in the depths of the garage in a box as we haven’t fully unpacked since we moved, and I have no idea which (of the many) boxes it’s in.

Iblinkedandiamold · 17/05/2020 10:56

Did anyone see Mary Fitzgerald on the News making masks. It was like my childhood make and do sessions all over again. Grin

LadyEloise · 17/05/2020 12:14

Yes I saw her but I thought it was as clear as mud how to make it Blush

ElspethFlashman · 17/05/2020 12:15

Just wear the bandanas bandit style. We've had a few patients come in to us in the last week wearing them like that.

I've ordered a couple of "neck tubes" from mountain warehouse. In other words, Buffs except their own brand. DH said he is more Comfortable wearing something like that, he wouldn't be able to get on with a mask, he'd end up not wearing one at all.

I honestly don't know if they would offer much protection, but it's either that or he wears nothing.

TimRigginsHasMyHeart · 17/05/2020 12:17

We have a bunch of buffs too (family of runners). I have seen a load of people wearing similar in Tesco. I don’t know if they would offer any more or less protection than a regular mask - esp on kids’ faces where the masks often gape at the edges
