Clueless is the only adaptation of Emma to really get the character of Emma right. The way that she knows just exactly how to be perfect in her own little world, but doesn't understand anything outside of that. The casual kindness along with ruthless condemnation if someone tries too hard and gets fashion wrong.

What is the current criteria for testing now?

LadyEloise · 11/05/2020 08:41

Just listening to the news on radio 1 and it appears if you have a cough or high fever or shortness of breath you phone your GP who will decide if you need to be tested.
Previously you had to be in a certain narrow
category.

Radio link here to interview Arlene did this morning with Radio Ulster. I am no fan of Arlene’s, but I actually think she spoke very well and it gives me a little hope for some sense coming from the executive tomorrow.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 11/05/2020 10:53

JellyTotsGrewTooBig. I feel as you do, possibly have even more dislike for her than you, but I do feel that she’s handling this very well. goes off to self flagellate due to complementing Arlene.

eggandonion · 11/05/2020 11:28

Maybe the politicians will grow up a bit - viruses and economies don't care about religion. Working together might be a habit after this.

NewAccountForCorona · 11/05/2020 11:32

I think Nicola Sturgeon's stance has been useful for Arlene. I think if Scotland had followed England it would be harder for her.

As it is, if only Ireland/NI could follow the same path, that would help.

Iblinkedandiamold · 11/05/2020 11:50

I am now qualified to put out a fire I have a cert and all. Grin
Just completed a fire safety course. I'll have CPD done for the next 5 years at this rate.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 11/05/2020 12:08

I think Nicola Sturgeon's stance has been useful for Arlene. I think if Scotland had followed England it would be harder for her.

That’s very true. It seems that those countries/provinces with women in charge, are being much more cautious. I wonder if it’s because female socialisation teaches us to be concerned about how our actions might impact on those around us, emotionally and health wise? Men are encouraged to be more self centric and power/financially driven, therefore thinking more about the financial impact, rather than the health and well-being of the general public. I’m just musing at this point and I know that not everyone is brought up like that, but society encourages those traits in general. The women are doing themselves proud, in my opinion.

Great argument interview on Newstalk this morning- Pat Kenny and Edwina Curry re Boris and the UK response to Covid19.
No contest, Pat won with his facts. Smile
Well worth a listen.

eggandonion · 11/05/2020 12:48

Is Edwina pro Boris?
Well done on fire cert! Have you a handwashing cert, but that might not be online. DD1 has handwashing, and the next step is to become a trainer in handwashing.
She has wiped trolley handles for several years, and uses hand gel when she leaves work before touching her steering wheel.

LadyEloise · 11/05/2020 12:58

Is Edwina pro Boris ? You ask eggandonion.
Well she wasn't accepting Pat's view that Boris and co didn't handle the pandemic as well as they should have in the beginning and the deaths that ensued.
Well worth a listen on podcast.
I have no time for Edwina, particularly after hearing she had an affair with John Major.
But i enjoy listening to her being interviewed. She's quite strident and has lots of confidence - something I lack.

NewAccountForCorona · 11/05/2020 13:55

What time was Edwina on LadyEloise? I used to sort of like her back in the day, then she appeared on I'mACelebrity and I thought she was a bit of an arse. She had very fixed opinions on many topics. I suspect the wonderfulness that is Boris and the Conservative party may be one of them Grin

NewAccountForCorona · 11/05/2020 14:28

Bloody hell, I've just listened to the entire interview. She may be full of confidence, but she showed total ignorance of facts and figures. She lied throughout, and when she wasn't outright lying she was just making things up Shock

Imagine insisting that the Irish rate of death from Covid was higher than the UK rate? And accusing all other countries of fudging their figures and saying that the UK was the only country that was counting all deaths - which everyone knows is an out and out lie.

Shocking.

LadyEloise · 11/05/2020 15:18

NewAccountForCorona
Wasn't Pat Kenny great at refuting her arguments
She lost, Big Time !!!

NewAccountForCorona · 11/05/2020 18:40

Yes, and at the end he might as well have said "ffs, this is a waste of time, go away" - he just cut her off and moved on.

eggandonion · 11/05/2020 19:08

Pat is far too polite!

Iblinkedandiamold · 11/05/2020 22:21

Grin I must listen to that. I dont like Pat Kenny usually but I think politics is where he shines.
@eggandonion I didnt know there was a handwashing one.
I have to do fire safety, manual handling and first aid every two years.
Two of them are a waste of time really and just there to avoid lawsuits., see fire run or point the extinguisher at it.
.bend knees to pick up box.
At least first aid is actually usual and you forget easily so I dont mind doing that one. Quite enjoy it actually.

JaneJeffer · 12/05/2020 12:31

I keep losing this thread.

This is my kind of woman!

JellyTotsGrewTooBig · 12/05/2020 12:54

Right - who has seen the summary of what the Executive have outlined today?

For the most part I think it is very sensible and I’m in favour of it.

I should also say that I am not in favour of rushing everyone back to school unless it can be done safely. BUT - where the hell is stage 6 when everyone is back at school full time??? It ends at stage 5 and in stage 5 it is only early years who are back full time. Everyone else is still part time. This is my proper WTF moment.

Someone please tell me I’ve misinterpreted! By the sounds of things - even by September our kids will all only be back part time, and possibly not even all of them back by that point.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 12/05/2020 13:01

I never thought the day would come that I’d look across the water at the U.K. and think “thank fuck I’m in a safer place like NI!”

MindyStClaire · 12/05/2020 13:08

I like the NI plan in general. I know people want dates but I understand why they haven't included them, presumably the ROI plan will take an occasionally backward step which will be tough.

But no mention of childcare at all?!

Smurf123 · 12/05/2020 13:33

Arlene Foster has said that she hopes we will reach the final stage by December!?!? So schools wouldn't be back full time according to the stages until after then!
I just want to know when we can see family! My son is only 2 and misses his granny, granda and 2 uncles (they are all 1household) and my brother is only 13.. We won't see them until they say it's safe but really hope it isn't too far away!

JellyTotsGrewTooBig · 12/05/2020 13:47

Shit! I have 1 in 4th year - I knew his GCSEs were going to be messed up but only part time school until January (if even then) is heartbreaking. I have 1 in 1st form and 2 in P5 so I guess the AQE preparation will also be severely affected if the wee ones will miss a good proportion of P6.
