Handy infograph for phases and dates. Had very mixed emotions after the speech yesterday. Sad for the kids not getting back to school before September but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
My dh is an electrician and we can't really figure out when he'll be back though. Does anyone know?

Neighbour is an electrician, he has done a few emergency calls, but assume back on sites mid May.

mineallmine · 02/05/2020 10:52

Leaving Cert starts on July 29th.

ReiltinDubh · 02/05/2020 12:13

Thanks egg. Was thinking that but then the fact he would do mostly do domestic is kind of throwing us so not outdoors!

eggandonion · 02/05/2020 12:19

I don't know what the story is with domestic, apart from emergency work, I need a few bits and pieces of work done myself. Next door has a man doing gardening, but I'm not sure if that's strictly allowed.

Inniu · 02/05/2020 14:56

@peppersneezes000
I am far away from cocooning parents too.

I think once it gets to 20 July and we can go more than 20k I am going to rent a house near my parents for a few days where we can visit them in their garden with masks or whatever is appropriate to protect them,

Iblinkedandiamold · 02/05/2020 16:07

Did you see Lidl have cancelled their special buys that were due in on Monday because of crowd concerns.
They said they were concerned about the queues that happened on Thursday will happen again and they cant control social distancing.

ElspethFlashman · 02/05/2020 16:20

Fair play.

NewAccountForCorona · 02/05/2020 16:47

It's all the gardening stuff isn't it? Same in Aldi. I think it'll be better when the garden and diy centres open - though they'll have to manage the queues. I think they need a take a ticket system, like in Clarkes shoe stores the week before the kids go back to school. Everyone takes a ticket at the entrance to the car park, and waits in the car until their number is called.

Iblinkedandiamold · 02/05/2020 16:55

On Monday it's children's outdoor toys in Lidl. I dont know if they have other stuff. I dont know what's in Aldi.

NewAccountForCorona · 02/05/2020 17:00

Maybe they should sell them in the car park - a separate queue, limited items per person, that sort of thing. Like Ikea Christmas trees.

ElspethFlashman · 02/05/2020 17:20

I may be blind or thick but I just looked at the lidl website and they seem to have removed the whole special buys section bar food offers?

Iblinkedandiamold · 02/05/2020 17:20

I think it's .ore the social distancing in the q they are worried about. They are only letting so many into the shop at a time. Although when I went in Thursday there wasn't many people there and yet people were still walking too close to me. Today I'm not feeling great, just very tired and I'm wondering did one of the people pass a bug onto me..it possible/more likely a combination of too much exercise, too little sleep and bailey's chocolate icecream.

Dk20 · 02/05/2020 17:54

I was in lidl this morning and noticed what pp said a few days ago, the staff on the floor are no longer observing social distancing. 3 staff on the floor got too close to me this morning Confused
I was picking up baking ingredients and they seemed to have everything in stock except for caster sugar.

Barbararara · 02/05/2020 18:45

@7Days I had a similar reaction to that fleeting glimpse of Leo the politician. He has been an excellent statesman throughout the crisis.

@Iblinkedandiamold hope you feel better soon. It’s bad enough feeling under the weather without having to worry and wonder that you have this bloody virus as well.

Iblinkedandiamold · 02/05/2020 18:55

Thanks @Barbararara. It's not the virus (I hope) I get like this sometimes. I haven't been sleeping great so sometimes when I am so exhausted I start feeling sick, no energy, dont want to eat but will force myself, that sort of thing.

Iblinkedandiamold · 02/05/2020 19:06

I made up a song for the children graduating in our setting to the tune of let it go. The song is crap but it's bit of craic. Just going to see if the others would be up to making a video of us singing it and then we can email it to the parents. I miss them so much. So much emotion going on this week.

eggandonion · 02/05/2020 20:49

Dh has just worked out that if things go to schedule we won't see two of our kids until July. He hadn't really looked at the Leo schedule.

Dk20 · 03/05/2020 10:36

We live beside a scenic walk way. People drive there and then park to go for a walk there.
Since we have been told to stay home and exercise within 2km of our home, there has been no cars there for people who have driven there to walk.
We popped in there yday for a walk and there were 3 cars there. As we were walking we saw a very old frail looking couple walking, I imagine they probably have been cocooning for the last number of weeks and couldn't wait to get out for a walk again. We made sure to keep well away from them as they must be terrified.

Iblinkedandiamold · 03/05/2020 11:34

@eggandonion that's rough. I keep saying we have years to make up for it.i cant wait to get my hands on the babies in out family again. They wont know us which is a shame but we'll make up for it.
We'll be back to normal soon enough and this'll be just a memory.
A few weeks of working and we'll be back to yearning for the time we were off work for months with pay. Grin

I cant wait to go a bit further on my walks. I'm going to escape to see the bluebells next week. It's a little over the 5k but it's the country, open air, not many people and it'll be just once

EmeraldShamrock · 03/05/2020 11:39

It was decided after the sun chair sale last week, hundreds turned up at the stores, they could not control social distancing in the queue.
It was the right choice to pull the sale.

Iblinkedandiamold · 03/05/2020 12:17

The coronation street story lines are very good, especially the domestic abuse one. The factbthsy they are older and it's not violence based.
The nudes is a good storyline too, the only thing is all these Stories are about woman. I dont see any involving men, unless they are gay.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 03/05/2020 14:17

According to universities are expecting an 80% drop in international students in the next academic year. Which is good news and bad news. Obviously the bad news is that it's a huge drop in income and universities are going to struggle with that, the good news is that they will try to back-fill with domestic students so points will drop. www.rte.ie/news/2020/0503/1136316-covid-19-universities/

I don't have a child doing leaving cert this year, but hopefully it will be a bit of comfort to any students who are worrying about not being able to get the results they are hoping for, they will still have a chance of their choice of course even if their points are lower than expected.

KayakingOnDown · 03/05/2020 18:32

Irish students will not be able to go to UK universities this year, then, I assume. As their results won't be out in time.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 03/05/2020 18:48

I think it depends on how much the UK universities want Irish students, they might make an offer on expected results. Presumably UK universities are facing a similar drop in international students, so they might be keen to take Irish students even with uncertainty around exact grades.

It'll be an odd year all round.
