I'm so bloody cross at the absolute fucking eejits on fb. Not too many on my personal fb. But the groups! Christ on the cross.
I'm starting to wonder about Russian bots and the like. Not so much the bots, but the people who believe them.
It all seems so fantastical.
It's one thing to say, I criticise the government because of ABC, they should have done xyz for these reasons.
But there are relentless comments saying all sorts of crazy shit. I'm not looking at posts as such, it's the comments agreeing from what seem like normal people. And in Ireland it wouldn't take that long to drill down into someone's fb and see if they are real.
I do find it worrying. Possibly late to the party here.

I agree with you 3luckystars
Leo et al are doing very well , I think. He was blunt from day 1 saying saving lives, not the economy was going to be his focus. Afaics they are foing that. Not without misjudgements (Cheltenham, etc), not without failings(testing kits &PPE, not unique to Ireland) , certainly without a crystal ball.
But definitely without ignorance and/or malice.

NewAccountForCorona · 29/04/2020 11:00

I think everything he's done has been for medical reasons, so I can understand economists criticising - after all, economically we're fucked after this.

But ordinary people should care more about lives than about money. So individuals who are broke, or stuck in flats with high rent and no garden, or those who are going to lose jobs long term, I don't mind if they complain about the specific situations. It's understandable. But it's not Leo's fault - for once the government of this country is putting people first and I admire him for that as I think this path is coming directly from him.

The UK have a government who (a) didn't notice what was happening, (b) when they noticed decided economy was more important than health and (c) only when they realised people weren't on their side belated started taking action. Added to which Boris is lazy in my view and just left it to his advisors who looked at economy first and everything else way down the line.

As for Trump - that's where ignorance and malice are noticeable. How anyone can think he is fit to lead a country is bizarre.

Iblinkedandiamold · 29/04/2020 11:12

When you look back on what Trump has said it's laughable if it wasn't so serious. At the start he kept going on about how well they were doing, he'd be graded at A+++, everyone says America is doing so well. Who does he think he's fooling, does he think Americans are all stupid. His his two answers for everything as far as I can see, That's Fake news and America is the best, I'm the best president.

Inniu · 29/04/2020 11:57

I think Trump just distracts people from the damage he is doing.
Bail out money going to him and his rich friends. Courts stacked with hand picked judges to rig the system for years to come.

eggandonion · 29/04/2020 12:21

I think Leo needs to nationalise the nursing homes and care homes - a lot of the people who volunteered to return to nursing don't seem to have been placed in hospitals yet. There were plans to bring voluntary (ex religious mostly) organisations into the hse, they need to do that now. And nursing homes as a business isn't working. (One of my daughters works in the hse - she's currently redeployed into this sector, she can be redeployed anywhere regionally ).

NewAccountForCorona · 29/04/2020 12:29

I used to think that Trump was just ignorant, now I'm beginning to think he is actually evil. He has always been a megalomaniac, at the moment he seems to be actually enjoying making life worse for people, and he is much, much more interested in getting re-elected than anything else, even the deaths of thousands of Americans.

I think you have a point about nursing homes, eggandonion. But I think in many ways they are like creches. If they are well run, they can't make much money - the profits come from cutting corners and paying shite wages. There are exceptions of course, but it's a tough sector to be in as a private company, and they are always going to cream off the people who can afford it, leaving those with little money in poor conditions. This is not a criticism of the staff by the way, more a criticism of the system, though I'm not sure what the answer is.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 29/04/2020 12:39

A nursing home bedside me has been badly hit by the Coronavirus and I was talking to two staff who normally work in a different role within the health service, who have been sent to help out. It seems that NHS workers are being sent into some private nursing homes.

eggandonion · 29/04/2020 13:18

I think some managerial people are in some nursing homes, but not many 'feet on the ground'. Just a quick scan of RIP.ie Dublin shows the extent of the problem.
I'm spending hours looking at diy face coverings, Leo doesn't want me to have a mask. I had my walk earlier, detoured to avoid two separate people who then took odd routes to cross my path. I might invest in a super soaker.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 29/04/2020 13:41

I’m in NI, eggandonion. Take a Bromyard out with you on your walks. One of those that you press a button on and it pops open, then you can just point it at them while opening it, 😁

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 29/04/2020 14:28

*brolly

eggandonion · 29/04/2020 14:40

Brolly is boring, Bromyard sounds exciting. Like a telescopic flegpole. No flegs this year.
I have just gone through a bag of stuff from the hot press, the charity pile. I can make some very nifty face coverings if necessary. Two daughters with 'going out clothes' habits, I will look like a belly dancer, lined with old sheets and elastic from tights. I will make Leo proud. And Arlene, who will have a hissy fit about masks.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 29/04/2020 15:01

You could make a jumpsuit, with a hood. A lovely flowery one. Grin

NewAccountForCorona · 29/04/2020 15:13

My dad has those hiking sticks that are about 2 metres long. I think he probably uses them to keep people away. And possibly knock pavement cyclists over Grin

eggandonion · 29/04/2020 15:29

Dh suggested flegs might be going cheap this year, or bunting. I could set up a wee cottage mask industry for the twelfth. I feel claustrophobic at the thought of masks.

Iblinkedandiamold · 29/04/2020 15:41

Not even going to attempt a mask. Too busy with C.P.D anyway because the DCYA has a list of conditions attached to their funding for childcare employers. I had signed up for a two courses anyway but now I dont want to do them. Grin
(By the way it took 5 weeks for the wage funding to come through from them, maybe they need to do some CPD.

Inniu · 29/04/2020 15:47

Nationalising nursing homes sounds like a good idea until you spend time in a public one.
I had reason to visit a public one a lot a few years ago and it was dreadful.

Altuve · 29/04/2020 16:05

Anyone in NI who is near a Lynas’ outlet - DH got large bags of flour and sugar today. Plenty on the shelves and a mixture of sizes, including ordinary small bags like you would get in supermarkets, larger 3kg bags, and then the big 10kg sacks.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 29/04/2020 16:15

Union fleg jumpsuits with matching masks, though I think your market might be a bit limited. 🤣

eggandonion · 29/04/2020 16:22

They need proper nursing management in nursing homes, not people with clipboards. I have a relation with zero healthcare experience running sheltered housing and a nursing home - but they all need some senior people with geriatric nursing, palliative care qualifications, infection control people. My relation was a sales manager - very nice, good at spreadsheets, but not ideal.
Although a lot of residents in nursing homes and residential care are not easy to persuade to socially distance from each other, and the staff have to be up very close.
I am cooking all the time just now, but crave cake rather than salads and healthy foods. Carrot cake is as good as it gets.

Inniu · 29/04/2020 17:56

I just need to stop eating chocolate and bread and drinking wine!

NewAccountForCorona · 29/04/2020 19:11

mmmm Wine

I'm restricting myself to a couple of nights a week. I think tonight might be one.

Dk20 · 29/04/2020 19:21
