I have been making these ones:

The first few were shite and taking me ages but I'm flying it now.

Inniu · 28/04/2020 00:53

Some kid took a distant selfie with Leo out testing at a Traveller site this evening.
He is getting flack because there were not meant to be any photos of him working as a doctor.

ElspethFlashman · 28/04/2020 08:21

Is it on Twitter? I haven't seen it.

LadyEloise · 28/04/2020 09:28

Any link/ photo please ?

This is one.

eggandonion · 28/04/2020 11:34

It's hard to prevent selfies when you are socially distanced! What a difference between him and Boris, but this is Ireland so he'll have to be given some stick.
In an exciting North South development, I got soda bread flour in Super Valu today. First time in 25 years. Normally I have to get it in Belfast. I have buttermilk, and now I can make scones like mammy used to make. (Except hers were edible).

LadyEloise · 28/04/2020 13:15

Re the Guardian writing about Covid19 in children it's on the News at One RTE radio now.

Iblinkedandiamold · 28/04/2020 13:27

I really really hope we never have to go into full lockdown like Spain. We did a virtual park run on Sat and one of our regulars is in Spain with his partner. He had to do it on his balcony.

eggandonion · 28/04/2020 13:40

The childhood syndrome is very scary, isn't it?
We have two nephews, who are nine and six. Being in the same room as them for an hour is exhausting - being in an apartment for weeks with active children would be challenging, mine would have been horrors.

Iblinkedandiamold · 28/04/2020 14:06

People are going mad on Facebook over reports that lockdown could go for 2 more weeks with very slight chances, 5k instead of 2k over 70s allowed out.
I dont know why they are saying the government is a joke, what do they want? Maybe Leo should the virus politely to leave the country because people are fed up.
I think we are very lucky, our lock down could be a lot worse, police could be beating people up for stepping outside but people are annoyed because they go where exactly? Do they want the pubs open again?
I am generally perplexed by the attitude of the few. Yes it's terrible but it us what it is.

eggandonion · 28/04/2020 14:11

My neighbour who works in construction has been sent a schedule of work for next week, with social distancing built in - if the site reopens. My daughter works for a company which has drawn up plans for twenty percent of staff to be in the office at any time. All as and when.

NewAccountForCorona · 28/04/2020 14:53

There's a fake notice going around www.thejournal.ie/coronavirus-ireland-restrictions-eased-false-5085778-Apr2020/ that the government have denied, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of the measures are the type of thing they will announce on Friday.

I doubt schools/childcare will open up, but I think construction and manufacturing will go back, where possible, hospitals will open for non-Covid procedures, and I think a few more shops, maybe those in retail parks, diy and gardening etc will open up, and we may be allowed to go more than 2 km from home. But it'll be gradual - it has to be, otherwise it's all been a waste of time.

Barbararara · 28/04/2020 15:29

I’m really tired of this lockdown now and I want it to be over, and it’s winding me up that people can’t just bloody well stay at home so we can all get it over with sooner. The personal cost of this to me and my family is very high. Shouting at the govt, and crowding into the courts, and flouting the rules won’t make the virus go away.

The testing has improved so much. I know two people who were tested, weeks apart and one took 6 days to come back, the other was 24 hours. We’re getting there, but we’re not there yet.

It genuinely boggles my mind that it’s even necessary to have roadblocks for the bank holiday, that people can’t just do the decent thing and hold off for the long term gain and the common good. They’re just prolonging the lockdown for everyone with their selfishness.

Iblinkedandiamold · 28/04/2020 15:35

@NewAccountForCorona
I didnt realise there was a fake thing going around. I know the government are saying they haven't anything set in Stone yet, down to the wire is what they keep saying.
I dont think anything much will change to be honest. The guards around here are still breaking up house parties and turning people around who are out for the spin.
I still have easter eggs in my boot ti give my Son, I have a birthday present for my Friends son too who's birthday was in March. Wondering if I should just eat the eggs at this stage. Grin

LadyEloise · 28/04/2020 16:18

Could somebody tell me how using anti- bac hand sanitiser, anti bac wipes and anti bac sprays are of use if Covid19 is a virus ?

No flour in my local Tesco today. SadAll sold out before midday.

Inniu · 28/04/2020 16:21

Because they don’t just kill bacteria. Ones with high levels of alcohol or certain other chemicals kill Covid 19 too.

Just don’t drink them or inject them as Trump suggested.

eggandonion · 28/04/2020 16:54

One of the many experts said that the rubbing action when you apply it is also helpful, like washing your hands, or cleaning surfaces.
We always have flour locally, but not Odlums - try Super Valu if you have one.
I have lost my scone recipe.

NewAccountForCorona · 28/04/2020 17:01

If you are looking for flour go to the Polish section in the shops - ds bumped into my Polish neighbour when in the supermarket and was directed to a massive, full, display of Polish baking ingredients. We have loads of flour now - sadly no eggs this week though.

It's not self-raising, but is lovely and fluffy and makes great pancakes and brownies.

Altuve · 28/04/2020 17:52

Just add 1tsp baking powder to plain flour and you have self raising.

I never buy self raising and bake almost daily.

EarlofEggMcMuffin · 28/04/2020 19:40

I think we are very lucky, our lock down could be a lot worse, police could be beating people up for stepping outside but people are annoyed because they go where exactly? Do they want the pubs open again?

Totally agreed iblinked

Dk20 · 28/04/2020 19:58

Have to agree, I dont think things many restrictions should be lifted yet. As weird as things are, I've actually got used to things how they are now.

LadyEloise · 28/04/2020 20:56

Altuve Tesco had no self raising or cream flour.
I had no problem getting eggs.
Terrible about the flu in hens and so many of them having to be culled.Sad

Altuve · 28/04/2020 21:58

Yeah I couldn’t get plain flour last week @LadyEloise. I already had a bag and a half in the house so could cope ok this week, but it’ll be gone by the weekend. Soda bread flour also running low, as is bread flour. Have plenty of coarse wholemeal!

Finally got yeast last week - my sister found some in M&S while she was shopping and bought an extra box for me - I could have kissed her - if we didn’t have to stay so far apart!

No soft light brown sugar to be found anywhere here. I’m ok for other sugars but totally out of soft light. Headed out tomorrow to Tesco and will also need to go to Lidl as need to pick up some bits and pieces for my mum, so will check both. I’m thinking I need to go as early as possible - last week I went in the afternoon and the shelves were definitely the barest I’ve seen them in weeks.

Barbararara · 28/04/2020 22:26

@LadyEloise my understanding is that this virus has a fatty sheath that can be damaged by high concentrations of alcohol, bleach, soap and certain disinfectants. The ECDC have information on what products are shown to be effective, and in what concentrations.

3luckystars · 28/04/2020 23:35

We are so unbelievably lucky to have a medically clued in leader, with a science background in charge. I heard a guy on the radio this morning saying how everything lined up, we had a doctor in charge that was just stinging from an Election and wanted to do everything right.

He will never please all the people, but Ireland is so so lucky to have Leo Varadkar in charge. We are doing as well as we possibly could be.
