Just back from our walk, so many more shops open, lots of people queuing, actually hanging out in the park rather than walking through it.

Deadringer · 25/04/2020 16:07

Our local tesco takes cash no problem, (ballybrack) as does our local centra.

Iblinkedandiamold · 25/04/2020 17:00

This is what Leo was talking about @chartreuse people getting complacent. Good weather making people go out. I'd love to be able to go and have a picnic somewhere myself or go to a beach. Instead I went on a 5k run while staying in a 2k radius of my house.

eggandonion · 25/04/2020 17:50

DD2 and I walked to te petshop via the park, there were a few families wandering around, certainly far fewer cars than usual as we are fairly near the seaside and it's usually busy on a nice Saturday. One man was giving his Ford Cortina a speedy whizz around, and a lot of people are driving too fast.
DD2 has been here for 6 weeks and has run out of clothes, so we went into our small Dunnes. It seems to be busy with women in masks that they fiddle with, or move around to call their husbands about slippers. If masks become compulsory we will need lessons.

Iblinkedandiamold · 25/04/2020 18:35

I feel we'll be lockdown forever at this rate. It's like when we were at school and the whole class would get detention because of a few messers. I get that people are fed up, the weather is glorious but still. The county I live in has had a huge jump in number of confirmed cases. We are now at over 100.

Barbararara · 25/04/2020 19:21

@LadyEloise I think that the WHO and the EU are more interested in keeping the supply lines for ppe flowing, than taking China to task over their figures at the moment.

From the beginning, it was clear that countries nearest to China were taking Coronavirus extremely seriously, in spite of the reassuring messages coming out of Beijing. I’m baffled why the west weren’t more sceptical, but I suppose that’s the benefit of hindsight.

ManorMouse · 25/04/2020 20:56

I went into Cork city centre last Thursday and certainly noticed the increased traffic. Usually, it's one or two cars passing by but I had to wait to be able to cross the road several times due to the volume of traffic.

I said to my neighbour that it was like a normal Saturday morning with the amount of cars, yet, when I reached Patrick Street, I almost had it all to myself, so God only knows where all the cars were going.

Mind you, I've heard a few anecdotal stories of people going back to work "out of boredom".

I've been working from home the last fortnight and don't miss the office at all. I miss my colleagues but they're all working from home so going back to the office would be a waste of time. In any case, I wouldn't be allowed back in.

Andi2020 · 25/04/2020 22:17

This is just silly.

Just curious, are there Easter Eggs left in shops? I used to love grabbing a bargin egg after Easter haven't been in the big shops since Easter Sunday. Probably good for my waist line anyway.

eggandonion · 25/04/2020 23:32

Locked down shops might have eggs, Debenhams used to. Waaaah!
I don't really know what they can do about the NI people, apparently there is some legal challenge in Kerry. Closing off beaches and roads to beaches would go some way to helping. And bad weather.

magicstar1 · 25/04/2020 23:40

My local Aldi is still selling eggs...big ones down to 1.99, and gorgeous boxes of pralines etc. down to 2.99. I bought a couple and give a box each week to my parents with their weekly shop.

Dk20 · 26/04/2020 10:56

@Andi2020 it is ridiculous and there will be lots of people rebelling because of that.

@ManorMouse we cant go back into the office either but wfh with the kids (6yo with asd and 10month old) here is so stressful.
We had a work call a few weeks ago with someone from Dublin in a different company, he said he was going to the office rather than wfh as he only lives 5 mins from the office. Going by the rules, he should be WFH.

I'm only going into town to get a food shop once a week, but did notice Easter weekend after the lockdown had been extended that people had started ignoring a lot of the rules. There were people walking with people from different households, people walking way outside 2km from their home. I think a lot of people complied for the first two weeks, then once it was extended they had enough.

3luckystars · 26/04/2020 13:40

Do you think we will be advised to wear masks soon?

eggandonion · 26/04/2020 14:18

I think we probably should have to wear masks, certainly in shops. But I don't trust people to wear them properly - people I see seem to constantly fiddle with them and take them off to use their phones. Plus they would then throw them away, there are already lots of gloves lying around.
We'd also need to be able to buy enough of them if we are going single use, or to have effective washable masks, that people would care for properly.

Barbararara · 26/04/2020 15:32

I’m going to have a go at making a mask for myself in a while. I suffer from a mild delusional disorder that flares up now and then and causes me to think I can actually operate a sewing machine.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/04/2020 15:50

I've been resisting making masks, I have the skill and the materials but I just don't want to. However I might need to start looking at patterns soon.

Inniu · 26/04/2020 17:49

I have a few cloth masks. I wear them when I need to go to a shop and then put them straight in the wash.

This being south Dublin I have a range of different ones to coordinate with my outfits! Smile

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/04/2020 17:55

😂. I’m also planning to coordinate masks with outfits. There is slightly more chance of the males in my family actually wearing one if I choose from the less colourful and patterned of my quilting stash. (Is south Dublin considered to be the stylish bit? I’m letting the side down if so. 😄)

magicstar1 · 26/04/2020 21:19

My friend’s uncle died of the virus during the week his two sons have travelled here to Ireland from London. Train to Holyhead, ferry to Dublin and then car to Galway. I do feel sorry for them, but there’s no funeral so I don’t see the point. I can’t believe that people are still being let in??

Inniu · 26/04/2020 22:15

I think they now have to register the address they will be quarantined in for the next 14 days and they can be checked

mathanxiety · 27/04/2020 01:50

Barbararara Grin. I made masks today for DS and his GF. The pattern was allegedly a '5 minute mask'. I had the first one done in an hour and fifteen minutes Smile.

Mine are made from a former fitted sheet.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 27/04/2020 01:54

I’m also planning to coordinate masks with outfits.

You mean, something like this for the men,
