I cant read anything really so I signed up to audible I listen to a whole series on that which was great. Having another meh day today, had one yesterday too. Just dont feel like doing anything. Dishes are piling up in the sink. By that I mean 3 bowls a plate, a cup and some cutlery.
Watching afterlife now. I dont usually watch box sets this early as I get lazy. I either watch Phil and Holly or listen to RTE Gold.

NewAccountForCorona · 24/04/2020 11:48

I think the spike in new cases is due to them testing every person in nursing homes. I don't think they've done that in any other country.

They are mapping where all the new cases are. They'll let us out as soon as they have an accurate quick test. At the moment it's taking 48 hours from test to result; that's too long, and they are also getting a lot of false negatives. I think they are sticking to 5th May to (a) avoid the bank holiday and (b) wait for a better test - which going by Germany we should have by then.

eggandonion
Thank you re rip.ie equivalent.

There's a lot more death notices in the Irish Times which I get on a Thursday for property porn. We get Saturdays also.
We used to get it everyday but we're trying to live more frugally Sad

Iblinkedandiamold · 24/04/2020 12:09

I hate when my wages are late going into my account. I always have a little worry that this week will be the week I dont get it. Shock

Inniu · 24/04/2020 12:23

I think you are right NewAccount that the high number of new cases is because they are testing everyone in care homes.
I think out me high deaths per million is because we are counting all deaths not just hospital. I think Belgium do the same.
The FT articles calculated that U.K. CV19 deaths were about 41,000 up to last week if they used an all cases method rather than hospital deaths.

If you look at our hospital only deaths in Ireland I think we drop down to about 40th in the world in deaths per million.

Who do you bank with @Iblinkedandiamold
I'm with BOI and mine have gone it

Iblinkedandiamold · 24/04/2020 14:05

@DK20 they are in now. Phew. I'm rich until my rent comes out next week anyway. Grin

It's been confirmed that someone at work has covid 19 - they were last at work (sitting beside me) and starting to show signs of illness (cold symptoms) at the beginning of March.
It's making me think more than ever that the really bad illness me, dp and the kids has in Feb was the virus.
Another person I work with (and sit with for lunch every day so spend a bit of time with) came back from China in early January and was back for a few days before being in and out of the office for weeks intermittently for weeks with a cold like virus.
I had the worst flu I have ever had, so bad that I couldn't work and was napping for hours during the day. Had severe sore throat and a cough that stayed for 6 weeks. Was at the gp and he said it was viral but there was no covid 19 testing at the time.
Ds was so so sick, he had a temp over 40 for days that wouldn't come down at all. He was at the doctor 3 times in the space of 6 days and was told he had a viral ear nose throat and sinus infection. At the time I was hoping they would send him to hospital with the temperature because I was so worried and couldn't control it. He slept day and night and didn't eat for a week and a half.
It's really making me wonder now Hmm

Inniu · 24/04/2020 17:18

It does sound like it DK20. When you add in the China connection and another colleague testing positive.

SegregateMumBev · 25/04/2020 07:31

Something odd is going on the the numbers.

I have a diary where I note the total deadth figures each day for NI, ROI and UK.

On 21st the ROI figure was 730. next day the BBC was reporting 49 new deaths bringing the total to 769 (doesnt add up). When I checked it seemed teh new deaths figure shouldve been 39, bad reporting by the BBC. nd the first question these days is always "how reliable is this source?"

On 23rd the total stood at 794. Overnight its jumped to 1,014. Has the measruing method changed?

Dk20 · 25/04/2020 07:50

@segregate the 1014 includes 185 probable deaths from covid 19, that have just been included in the count.
With the previous days figures being lower than expected, they have started taking out deaths which were thought to be from covid 19 but now have been deemed not to be from covid 19.

SegregateMumBev · 25/04/2020 08:06

Ah, thanks for that explanation!

BarbeDeMaman · 25/04/2020 08:50

Worldometer is reporting 220 deaths in Ireland yesterday. Their source is Gov.ie which reports 37 deaths yesterday.

What am I missing? Worldometer getting it wrong or reporting several days in one go.

SegregateMumBev · 25/04/2020 09:04

As I understand it, 37 were yesterday's deaths, but add in the 185 "thought to be" Covid (over more than one day I'm thinking?) to bring the total to date up to 1,014. So the spike is an adjustment to a new way of counting, which will be used going forward.

LadyEloise · 25/04/2020 09:24

According to Worldometer China has 58 cases per million and 3 deaths per million.
There are no figures for tests per million.

And WHO and the UN have no questions to ask?

Sad

5 Irish healthcare workers have died.
Apparently there is a GoFundMe page for their families. I can't find it.
Does anyone know what one it is please ?

Iblinkedandiamold · 25/04/2020 11:31

Is anyone still using cash? I'm trying to save money for the next 4 weeks. I have 16 euro in cash and was going to use that. I have 4 weeks worth of dinners in my freezer so €4 a week is enough. I cant go anywhere it's just me. I only have to buy bread and milk really.
I just feel awful using cash. I've had 16 euro in my wallet since lockdown. If I use my card see I'll be tempted to just buy stuff I dont need like ice cream. 😂
This is a dilemma I never ever thought I would face. 🙈

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 25/04/2020 11:36

Iblinkedandiamold I discovered that my local garage still serve customers throughout the night, via the hatch and they accepted cash from me, so I think some are still accepting it. I imagine it’s a case of them preferring cards but it would be ridiculous to totally refuse cash as a lot of older people won’t be comfortable with cards and there are others in severe financial difficulties that won’t have the use of a bank card.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 25/04/2020 11:37

I meant to add, it might be helpful fir you if you have small shops close by and can phone them first to check.

Dk20 · 25/04/2020 11:38

@iblinked
At the beginning of March by debit card magically turned faulty (5 mins after I used it in a shop). It took over a month for my new one to arrive. In that time i had to go into the bank to withdraw cash then pay for everything in cash, each time i went shopping or had to get diesel etc. I felt awkward but the workers really didn't seem to mind.
I saved so much money from not having the debit card (impulse online purchases) that I was actually disappointed when it came

Iblinkedandiamold · 25/04/2020 11:56

Thanks guys it's good to know. I know I can use tesco self service with cash but that's the only shop around me that has self service till.
I dont need anything really, my cupboards are full of tins and pasta so it's just to stop me impulse buying. Also I really want the egg chair from lidl so to buy that and still be on target for paying bills and stuff I cant spend anything else. Does that make sense to ye? I have a target at the end of month that I need to be at money wise to make sure I have enough to pay bills for the following month.

Dk20 · 25/04/2020 12:05

Yes @iblinked it does make sense, if your cupboards are full I'm sure you'll be able to manage just fine.
I havent seen the egg chair that's meant to be coming to lidl, when is it due?

Iblinkedandiamold · 25/04/2020 12:09

It's due on Thursday the 30th. I've wanted one for so long. I have no outdoor furniture at all so I do need this. Grin

Dk20 · 25/04/2020 12:42

Thanks @iblinked

I might get one aswell, think it would encourage ds to go outside more while I'm WFH

eggandonion · 25/04/2020 13:12

I could happily live for a fortnight from the tins, fridge and freezer; dh would whine; ddog would be fine; dd2 keeps suggesting meal ideas with about half a dozen things I don't have.
I got cash yesterday, our coalman deals in cash, and the man who cuts hedges - but I had some nesting birds so he's not cutting them any time soon. I put hand gel on the atm, I had to wipe it off and hope it isn't sticky.

Iblinkedandiamold · 25/04/2020 13:59

Just did a virtual park run, it is roasting outside. I had to open all the doors and windows in the house when I came back and have a coldish shower to cool down.
