Coronavirus in Ireland/N Ireland

beanaseireann · 27/02/2020 19:56

The first case of Coronavirus has been confirmed in Northern Ireland.
A passenger travelled from Italy to the North via Dublin.
I don't know how we will cope in the Republic if we have large numbers ill with the virus as our health service is already at breaking point.

Robin Swann has said today that the evidence shows that approx 2/3 of people are following the social distancing rules. WTF are are the other 1/3 doing?!?!? Who the hell are they? 1/3 - that’s a hell of a lot of people not complying!

FFS that’s made me mad.

Deadringer · 01/04/2020 22:22

KanyesVest he queued for about 30 mins to get in, but once in he flew around because of how few people were in it, and there was no queue at the checkouts.

ArlenesWoodBurningStove · 01/04/2020 22:33

Light, I wonder whether the third includes people who can’t maintain distancing eg some key workers. I’d hope so, otherwise a third of us are total whabs.

buckeejit · 01/04/2020 23:51

@LightACandleHoney I'd be fuming if I thought a third weren't following the rules. Like Arlene says, hopefully it's those who can't.

I ordered yeast from eBay the other day. Also done an online order from Lynas but site was a bit clunky & annoying. Thought I'd got pasta & sanitiser spray but then it's chucked me out & all out of stock 2 mins later 🙄. Did get non essential things like large crunchy nut cornflakes & Diet Coke! Went for self raising flour as I love greek yogurt flatbreads 😁

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 02/04/2020 00:03

I think 1/3 might be key workers who can’t do social distancing. Although looking out my window and on FB it is also the idiots going to the shop for a paper, standing chatting with neighbours, (no space between) looking for people to come and move their TV to the wall, buying furniture of marketplace, and going to the beach Hmm

Twixes · 02/04/2020 09:26

@KanyesVest just read it there. I love her articles.

The whole thing is mind boggling. Does anyone else feel as if it's all surreal? The thoughts of people in hospital beds in Citywest...I can't get my head around it, despite following it very closely since January!

fifig87 · 02/04/2020 09:35

Juan I was wondering as well with people putting up requests looking for and selling stuff still on the buy and sell pages. Just ridiculous.

Thankfully all my neighbours are keeping away from each other. I do know someone and her partner who were waiting on tests and then results were out and about still. Both are health care workers.....

LightACandleHoney · 02/04/2020 10:15

Oh do you know what I hope you’re right - I hadn’t even thought about keyworkers making up that non-compliant 1/3. I hope you’re right! Mind you, we have a few neighbours who I’d dearly love to shake for their stupidity - Except I wouldn’t be stupid enough myself to get close enough to them to shake. Out 4 times a day to walk the dog, small shops pretty much every day - certainly every other - and have had family visiting twice at least in the last week. I guess there’s probably plenty of other eejits like them who think the rules don’t apply to them.

Everyone appears to be careful in our area. We're staying in as much as possible.
Totally irresponsible of those health care workers awaiting test results to be out and about ShockSad

NoGravyForYou · 02/04/2020 10:19

The president is addressing the nation at noon today via the radio. I genuinely don't remember this happening in my lifetime before.

DuchessDumbarton · 02/04/2020 10:40

oh thanks @NoGravyForYou I hadn't seen that anywhere (trying to stay off social media... you can see how that's going Grin).

DuchessDumbarton · 02/04/2020 10:41

@buckeejit you wouldn't be able to post your recipe for flatbreads would you?
I tried them before and they were roundly rejected by offspring.
But, I'm baking by the new time here anything to avoid work

LadyEloise · 02/04/2020 10:50

I'd love the flatbread recipe too please.

Iblinkedandiamold · 02/04/2020 11:02

@NoGravyForYou thanks so much, I also hadn't heard/seen anything about this.

NoGravyForYou · 02/04/2020 11:04

Twitter has proven very useful for information. I follow a few journalists from RTE and Virgin media and they're pretty good at sharing all the info.

NoGravyForYou · 02/04/2020 11:05

Also would like the flatbread recipe please!

ArlenesWoodBurningStove · 02/04/2020 12:32

I love flatbreads (the Turkish type are my faves). DP made some with yoghurt and they were very disappointing.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 02/04/2020 13:09

Jamie Oliver has a good recipe for flat bread I think.

NoGravyForYou · 02/04/2020 13:19

After me reminding you all, I missed Miggledy on the radio, it was at the same time as "school on the tv" had ended, so I was busy organising the kids work 🙈

Iblinkedandiamold · 02/04/2020 13:32

I missed it too but found it on Facebook so listened back to it. I forgot to tell Alexa to remind me. Grin

Iblinkedandiamold · 02/04/2020 13:38

Still in my Pjs here. I woke up at 3.30am and couldn't get back to sleep. I think I drifted off at 7 and wooe again at 9.30. No energy to do anything today. I have signed up for online counselling, better help.com.
Watching you me and surrogency. It's very teary. Happy tears and some sad tears.

LadyEloise · 02/04/2020 14:40

I don't have much time for Michael D to be honest. I know he's a sacred cow in Ireland, so I'll be flamed.
He just drones on and on and loves the sound of his own voice. To my mind he's a smoked salmon socialist.

Runs and hides.

AngelaScandal · 02/04/2020 14:59

You better hide @LadyEloise Grin

Iblinkedandiamold · 02/04/2020 15:00

Grin I met him a few times when he was minster of Arts. He'd come to our school for talks. He was very nice, stood around afterwards chatting to us all.
I dont think I'd think much of him one way or the other had I not met him.

KayakingOnDown · 02/04/2020 15:07

Michael D?

I feel he could have done a lot more for North-South relations. He pissed off our PSNI by (wrongly) blaming them for not protecting him, which made him have to take a jet (not very eco-friendly) to NI. He came out looking very hypocritical.

Plus, setting up a book of condolence for Fidel Castro?
