The first case of Coronavirus has been confirmed in Northern Ireland.
A passenger travelled from Italy to the North via Dublin.
I don't know how we will cope in the Republic if we have large numbers ill with the virus as our health service is already at breaking point.

I cant get wholemeal flour anywhere. Can get white plain and self raising but not wholemeal.
I got eggs today there weren't many.
Aldi and Lidl here in Connaught are not taking necessary precautions, they have no plexi glass guard up for staff at checkout, not limiting the number of people in store and I couldn't see antibacterial spray to clean the trolleys or hands in Aldi. Saw it in lidl inside the door. I am also pretty sure the Mark's on the floor are too close together.
Tesco is great though, they are limiting the numbers, I don't know about screen guards as I haven't been in there.

I'm going to have to give in and make wee buns! Assuming I have icing sugar somewhere. It is potato day today here, we are on a potato - rice - pasta rota!
I think our Lidl is spraying trolleys with a machine thing, I haven't been in - only Dunnes here which was OK.
Tony Holahan, medical officer is in hospital, non corona reason. Politics aside, our head honchos must be under extreme stress and lack of sleep.

Iblinkedandiamold · 01/04/2020 16:11

I ran out of wall paper during my room make over. When Woodies open again I'll get more and redo the whole lot. I made a hemes of the thing, luckily most of it is hidden behind curtains and a wardrobe. Grin
Can I have sone buns please. Love fairy cakes

Can't believe Simon Harris is only 33. He's been playing a blinder this last while. I think you can really see the thought and concern when he speaks.

Supermarkets near us were busier today than last couple of days (according to DH who is doing our and his DPs shopping).

I long for a meal that isn't made of mince or a massive amount of meat. He keeps buying food that needs a lot of peeling and energy before it's a dinner. First world problem but even though he's WFH I still end up doing the dinner for the kids on my own and having a row about eating it.

buckeejit · 01/04/2020 16:27

I still can't meal plan or organise. I'm not used to it & desperately trying not to waste stuff. The weird teas to use up bits are often my fave - last night we have a bit of boxty. Sweet potato fries, Savoy cabbage & egg!

Tonight it's wtf from the freezer Hmm

eggandonion · 01/04/2020 16:29

My dd2 wanders into the kitchen about 6.00 with a suggested menu. I'm trying to make a lot of nourishing soup for lunchtime to fill her up, and I wish she'd menu plan (and cook). She has junior cert home ec, she's capable.
I wallpapered once, thirty years ago.

Iblinkedandiamold · 01/04/2020 16:31

I am used to meal planning, I cook a lot of vegetarian stuff because it's cheaper, quicker and handier. I cook a lot from the happy pear book. I bring dinner to work so I spend Saturdays batch cooking and because it's just me I usually have enough for 2 weeks maybe three depending on how many different meals I cook. Sometimes times I cook 3 different things sometimes 5.
I love their stuff and it freezes really well.

I wonder are people's rations running low? I'm going to have to go tomorrow. I rang my local SuperValu and they have eggs but no flour apparently.

Tomorrow I plan on making coconut macaroons. Can't wait.

I'm sorry to to hear Tony Holahan is sick, I really hope it's not covid.

Iblinkedandiamold · 01/04/2020 16:37

My gym is doing online classes 25 euro for 4 weeks or 40 with equipment. I got some weights from them. It's their business and I want to support them. I saw them disinfecting the stuff, I wore gloves and beiught them to the car. I'll disinfect them again. So much thinking and planning goes into stuff I used to do without thinking before.
I should be going to England next next to see family. Cant wait yo see them when this is all over.

Andi2020 · 01/04/2020 16:40

I think next TUESDAY will be a really busy day in shops in Roi as its children's allowance day and everyone that gets it will think must buy a big shopping for Easter like xmas day but try and budget this out if like me you have lost your job and need to be more careful with your money because we will still be isolating so dont need to think we are feeding 5000.

eggandonion · 01/04/2020 16:42

He looked exactly like I look when I get my 'stomach thing' which isn't a heart attack - it's like a panic attack. They should all be forced to have a day off each week.
I was used to just dh and me for food, until last year dd2 was here but not as full time. My other two kids give notice of turning up so I factor them in as and when. I also nip in to get bread and milk on my way home from work, but that's not happening now!

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 01/04/2020 16:51

I had to go shopping yesterday for the first time in a fortnight. (My Mum was dropping milk off in the interim) I did buy as much as I could back then as I knew the lockdown was coming. also- education board (NI) started paying the free school meals money into people’s accounts yesterday so I expect the shops might start getting busier this week. Having said that- I think they’ve been quite busy anyway despite people supposed to be staying home.

Iblinkedandiamold · 01/04/2020 16:55

Strangely I ouldnt get unsweetened Almond milk today. I think I have an introllence to diary. Too much makes me feels sick and it affects my sinuses. I can also get a migraine. Right now I am really stuffed I because of all the chocolate I've been eating.
I just went off an tangent have no idea where that was going, that's lack of human contact for you.
@eggandoninon I agree they should have a day off.

StepawayfromtheBiscuittin · 01/04/2020 17:23

@buckeejit those are the best dinners. That one sounds lovely.

Agree they should all take time off. No one can go for a sustained period of time under that stress and with those hours. All only human.

StepawayfromtheBiscuittin · 01/04/2020 17:24

@Iblinkedandiamold

Similar here on dairy which is a real downer for me as I think my DNA is half cheese. I've got awful rhinitis from too much milk this last while, I've doubled my cuppa consumption this last fortnight.

ElspethFlashman · 01/04/2020 17:25

Going into hospital for tests is a bit worrying as blood tests or an EKG could be done by the GP.

Could be a stress test. Hope it's nothing serious.

Twixes · 01/04/2020 17:42

Good point on child allowance @Andi2020. I think I'm going to venture to lidl tomorrow. They're going to have tomato plants so I might give growing them a bash. Going to the shops is a big outing at the moment, I'm quite looking forward to it! I may also go on an egg hunt 🥚

fifig87 · 01/04/2020 19:50

Flour is sparse here and large eggs. But I was shopping on Monday morning so might have been a bad day. I did see self raising in aldi but I was after plain.

Question if someone can help, dd is due to go to hers dad's tomorrow. I can't find any info on whether it's allowed or not. I need to have information before I tackle it again. Not worth the shite he will give me.

NoGravyForYou · 01/04/2020 19:57

I Know two lots of parents that usually do midweek overnights with other parent etc. One is a health worker and the child's stepmother has some severe underlying issues so the child is staying with their resident parent for the foreseeable. The other both parents are off work but the child has an underlying issues so they are doing two or three week chunks each.

fifig87 · 01/04/2020 20:03

This is from Thursday to Monday, no underlying conditions or frontline workers. We have all basically been in since school finished!! So hard to know what to do.

ArlenesWoodBurningStove · 01/04/2020 20:42

fifi, are you NI or ROI? UK guidance is that it’s fine for kids of separated parents to move from one household to the other.

Deadringer · 01/04/2020 20:45

Dh did the shopping in dunnes today, in cornelscourt and he didn't notice any empty shelves. They seemed to be a bit low on potatoes but that's about it. We are eating like horses in our house!

fifig87 · 01/04/2020 21:18

Arlene I'm in RPI. Can't find anything!

I saw on a baking group I follow yeast is hard to get too

KanyesVest · 01/04/2020 21:25

Deadringer were there queues to get in? I haven't been near it but a friend was expecting to queue for 2 hours to get in Shock

Did anyone read Miriam Lord in today's IT? Made me a bit teary... www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/miriam-lord-when-did-we-in-our-wildest-dreams-envisage-a-field-hospital-in-saggart-1.4218298

Gone full patriotic on my street today (Kerry). People hanging tricolours from the windows.
