Coronavirus in Ireland/N Ireland

beanaseireann · 27/02/2020 19:56

The first case of Coronavirus has been confirmed in Northern Ireland.
A passenger travelled from Italy to the North via Dublin.
I don't know how we will cope in the Republic if we have large numbers ill with the virus as our health service is already at breaking point.

I agree, I've been very impressed with both of them.

mineallmine DH & I were just saying exactly that about the election this evening.

eggandonion · 30/03/2020 11:15

Leo for president when the time comes?

NoGravyForYou · 30/03/2020 13:25

Simon Harris has aged about 10 years since 2018 between repeal, the cervical cancer scandal and then this. He's only 33!!!

bellinisurge · 30/03/2020 19:42

I heard from a colleague in NI that people from NI are travelling to their holiday homes in Donegal. Is that a thing? Do these people want a situation where there are roadblocks between NI and ROI?

eggandonion · 30/03/2020 20:26

I heard that about motor homes from the north moving to Sligo and Donegal, which is not great. I'm in Cork, so don't know if it's correct.

Dk20 · 30/03/2020 20:59

Anyone know how long the test results are taking to come back?,BIL was tested on thursday

KanyesVest · 30/03/2020 21:04

Dk20, it seems to be 4-5 days for standard tests and 24-48 hours for anyone in a vulnerable group.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 30/03/2020 21:22

Is anyone going to use their free postcards from An Post? I don't really have anyone to send it to, everyone I know is fairly active on social media so I am in contact anyway.

Dk20 · 30/03/2020 21:37

We didn't get the postcard, if I did I'd prob let ds send it to his cousins

LaurieMarlow · 30/03/2020 21:41

I didn’t get the postcards either

eggandonion · 30/03/2020 21:44

We got ours today, plus our corona brochure. Our postman had two lumbar punctures in December for suspected viral meningitis. His consultant told him he had some sort of strange respiratory virus.
Dd1 will get a postcard, lucky girl!

FarmerWantsABaby · 30/03/2020 21:47

@bellinisurge there are quite a lot of people travelling to Donegal (I'm in Tyrone) to their holiday homes/mobiles. A lot of people are saying it's to "isolate" 😳
However I do know a few nurses who are moving into their caravans to isolate from their families whilst they are working

Iblinkedandiamold · 30/03/2020 23:00

I got my postcards today too no brochure though.
I've also nearly eaten a tin of quality streets that I only opened yesterday. I need to stop doing that otherwise I am going to be rolling out of here. Grin

eggandonion · 30/03/2020 23:15

We got through mother's day milk tray in record time and they aren't very nice. I'm doing about a third of my normal exercise since stopping work.
Brochure and postcards are quarantined until tomorrow.

NoGravyForYou · 31/03/2020 09:32

We have our postcards, will send to both lots of my grandparents.

ArlenesWoodBurningStove · 31/03/2020 16:52

I’m doing far more exercise than I would normally (I normally don’t walk the length of myself).

ArlenesWoodBurningStove · 31/03/2020 16:53

Speaking of postcards, are we up here supposed to be getting a letter from BoJo?

Countmeout · 31/03/2020 16:58

Speaking of postcards, are we up here supposed to be getting a letter from BoJo?

I think I’d rather have the postcards.

ElspethFlashman · 31/03/2020 17:00

I got my postcards today. We're sending some to the ILs.

Never got our brochure though. But that may come this week.

So far no issues in my hospital, not at capacity or anywhere near. And of course the private hospitals are all fairly empty now.

I really thought it'd be worse by now so fingers crossed our efforts will work.

The private hospitals are still doing some elective ops though. Hip replacements and stuff and colonoscopies and stuff. And orthopedic trauma is still happening across the board. That may continue throughout as long as there's capacity.

DuchessDumbarton · 31/03/2020 17:03

Yes, I was very worried that it was going to be much worse than it has been so far.
Are we still in the window for incubating the returners from Cheltenham?

Not that there's any room for relaxing yet.
Am worried about figures very evening.
God bless all the carers in nursing homes

DuchessDumbarton · 31/03/2020 17:03

*every

ElspethFlashman · 31/03/2020 17:05

Cheltenhams are admitted now.

Not that we'll ever be told how they get on. I just heard on the grapevine there were a few in my hospital. That was last week. We may never know more.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 31/03/2020 17:07

Aren’t postcards a bit risky? Confused should the government be adding to the workload of the posties, exposing them to more risk and exposing everyone who receives a postcard to risk? The virus can remain on things for days and you can’t exactly wash a postcard!

Iblinkedandiamold · 31/03/2020 17:50

I have discovered durung this virus that I am not made for painting and wallpapering. I am terrible at this.

LaurieMarlow · 31/03/2020 17:55

My understanding is that the risk on a soft, moist surface like cardboard is v small.

And I think it’s an An Post initiative. I may be wrong though.
