The first case of Coronavirus has been confirmed in Northern Ireland.
A passenger travelled from Italy to the North via Dublin.
I don't know how we will cope in the Republic if we have large numbers ill with the virus as our health service is already at breaking point.

I think that's why they graduated the guards early from Templemore. We dont have Guards here so I wonder how it'll be enforced here. I was practically on lock down anyway, just going to my parents, the difference is I wont be able to do that anymore or drive to the forest for a walk now.

Where was Simon Harris answering kids questions, JaneJeffer?
My 11 year old would be interested. He is feeling disturbed

ElspethFlashman · 27/03/2020 21:56

Cocooning = not going out at all.

An Post are sending the postmen to liase with the over 70s on their routes to bring them supplies.

eggandonion · 27/03/2020 22:01

Where I live teenagers are still meeting up. And Mary down the street spends all day with family coming and going.

JaneJeffer · 27/03/2020 22:04

7Days it was on news2day on RTÉ 2. Might be on player.

7Days · 27/03/2020 22:09

The cocooning I'd say is part on the An Post initiative where postmen are to call to old people to check in and carry messages.
Happens anyway in the rural.areas but nice to have it codified

7Days · 27/03/2020 22:10

Cross posts.
Thanks Jane

Barbararara · 27/03/2020 22:17

@7days link to Harris interview news2day is very good generally. My dc enjoy it.

LadyEloise · 28/03/2020 09:47

So sad that a health care worker has died.
May they rest in peace.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 28/03/2020 12:24

Barbararara there's a good piece in the Journal today - www.thejournal.ie/cocooning-during-covid-19-do-i-need-to-do-it-and-what-should-i-do-if-so-5060611-Mar2020/

LadyEloise · 28/03/2020 16:31

Are the restrictions in the North the same as in the Republic now ?

chartreuse · 28/03/2020 16:33

Far fewer people out and about here, it is really noticeable. I'd say about 70-80% reduction in cars and pedestrians on the road where I am.

JaneJeffer · 28/03/2020 18:07

Love this!

Very few out here too for Saturday. Not many cars around. The town is usually quiet but on a Saturday there are normally people out getting their shopping or driving through to get yo the local big town.
The big thing will be no Mart. It'll be strange not seeing the Mart busy.

KayakingOnDown · 28/03/2020 19:55

The restrictions in the north are the same as the south, except we are not restricted to exercising withing 2km of home. Parks, forests and beaches etc have closed, from what I've heard.

HoneyToday · 28/03/2020 22:29

What are the restrictions that come into force in NI at 11pm tonight? It’s on “breaking news” on bbcni but no details. Are they new or just powers to enforce the current restrictions?

Myshitisreal · 29/03/2020 04:40

I'm on a c word ban but this helps. More enforcement from what I can see. BBC News - Coronavirus: New regulations come into force

LadyEloise · 29/03/2020 14:43

I saw that JaneJeffer
Heartbreaking

AngelaScandal · 29/03/2020 21:57

Simon Harris looks beyond exhausted.

7Days · 29/03/2020 23:03

He does the poor man

mineallmine · 29/03/2020 23:11

I think Leo and Simon Harris are doing such a good job. Feel sorry for Simon Harris, he's looking very tired. Feel for his wife and baby, they must never see him these days.
I'd say if they'd held off that election a while, FG would have been a shoe in after this.

honeyrider · 29/03/2020 23:29

Simon Harris suffers from Chrons disease and his wife is a nurse. Simon Harris is a very clear communicator.

Iblinkedandiamold · 29/03/2020 23:57

Leo and Simon Harris have been great throughout this. Leo doesn't seem to be sugar coating it, telling it like it is, giving clear guidelines and expectations. He's really stepped up.
