I guess we can't discuss the trial, but the details coming out from the evidence is sickening, the poor child's death was horrific ! Her poor parents knowing how their daughters final hours were full of such suffering and terror.

www.irishtimes.com/news/crime-and-law/courts/criminal-court/ana-kriegel-murder-trial-the-complete-story-1.3929570?mode=amp

Very detailed article on the trial and it’s background.

I wanted to scream reading it- such a pointless waste of life.

Annasgirl · 18/06/2019 20:21

Oh I cried watching the news - the photos of her growing up.

The Irish Times article really shocked me and I thought I was beyond shock regarding this case.

I know people say that these things have happened since time began and yes terrible things have happened but I think society has to look at the availability of porn and what it is doing.

Bumper1969 · 18/06/2019 20:37

Absolutely we need to address the instant availability of violent porn. 12,000 images on a child's phone. Why on Earth weren't his parents checking his phone. That poor girl had her mother monitoring her phone, to try to protect her. The Irish Times article is unbearable.

GrapefruitIsGross · 18/06/2019 20:54

Absolutely we need to address the instant availability of violent porn. 12,000 images on a child's phone

Including searches for “horse porn” and “child porn”.

The Irish Times article states that the defender tried to get the evidence of the porn and searches on his devices thrown out on the basis that they hadn’t been accessed in six months and that it wouldn’t have been unusual for a teenage boy to be looking at porn HmmHmmHmm

Why bigger questions aren’t being asked around this is beyond me.

The piece, as heartbreaking as it was, on RTE news was beautiful because it reminded us all of how deeply loved Ana was.
And what a beautiful girl she was who loved life.

Such a horrendous loss. I cannot begin to imagine her parents and her family's heartbreak.

Junowhat · 18/06/2019 21:31

I thought of Ana like a weirdo. Someone I should not be around

Oh the irony of one of those little shits saying this about Ana. I hope they suffer, they must be frighteningly cold to have not crumbled by now and admitted their guilt.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 18/06/2019 23:52

That Irish Times article was gut churning. The fact that Boy A had two phones with such violent images and search history is horrifying.

I can't imagine how Ana's parents and family must be feeling. I hope they have lots of love and support around them. Rest in peace, Ana.

Bythebanksof · 19/06/2019 01:52

In Ireland murder is mandatory life sentence. A guilty plea would only occur if the accused wanted to avoid a trial for their family, or victims family. I expect boy B will appeal.

Children are almost never prosecuted in the Irish system. There are no facilities or infrastructure. I’d expect boy B released by 18, boy A soon after.

It’s awful. It’s not justice. Boy A will likely go on to do more terrible things.

CharityDingle · 19/06/2019 02:04

In Ireland murder is mandatory life sentence.

Not in the case where the murderers are children, apparently. The Children's Act is silent on mandatory sentences.

RedForShort · 19/06/2019 08:14

I looked up the judge's sentencing history. Or a least i tried to. Read he gave 18 months suspended sentence to two teenager boys who raped a 14 year old girl (who had autism). Didn't see much else on him. (I was wondering if he was the judge who seems very lenient on sexual crimes.)

Annasgirl · 19/06/2019 08:37

Yes I have a bad feeling about that judge - he asked the jury to "think like a teenager" when considering the evidence??!!! And he disallowed the porn evidence as you said on the basis that it wasn't unusual???!!!! I mean, I know porn is supposedly everywhere on teen boys phones now but I do think this was exceptional.

pachyderm · 19/06/2019 08:45

Sentencing in Ireland is a fucking joke. People walking around with 150 convictions is not uncommon. That judge has form and I do expect those evil little shits will be out before long.

This was one of the worst cases I've ever read in my life. I'm so worried for our daughters. RIP beautiful Ana.

RedForShort · 19/06/2019 08:50

Their names will be know. I cannot see how they won't be, certainly not in Ireland anyway.

There are already pictures of two boys circulating that are supposedly them.

Sentencing in Ireland is a joke.
The bleeding heart liberals will be out in force citing why the boys should be treated with kid gloves.
Yeah right!
The way they treated Ana !
Please don't tell me they didn't know what they were doing.
They know right from wrong - if nothing else they would have done SPHE in primary school.

Betaboo · 19/06/2019 10:37

The school also needs to take responsibility and address the bullying which made these two think Anna was worthless enough to be murdered in such a violent way. It is heartbreaking to think she headed into her first year of secondary school already having been bullied by year 3 students. Imagine how terrifying her 1st day at secondary school must have been.

I notice the school Facebook page is full of happy end of year events and no comment about Anna.

I hope the judge lifts the embargo on naming the school she went to, in the hope the school can at least acknowledge the horrendous bullying that she suffered and what they have done to ensure the safety of all their pupils. Hopefully they will post a tribute to Anna.

The school should be utterly ashamed of the bullying that occurred there (before she was murdered) and should have been cracked down on (they were informed after all that third years bullying an incoming student.) That itself is abhorrent. For just not dealing with that they should be totally and utterly ashamed.

beanaseireann · 19/06/2019 14:02

Where in the media is the school named ?

LastChanceFinalOffer · 19/06/2019 14:33

I read it somewhere. I'm not from there and I can't remember the name of it. There is a blanket ban on the identifying the boys details.

She's been input as "murder victim" under 'Notable alumni' on the schools wiki page. Is that normal for wikipedia, it feels wrong to me.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 19/06/2019 14:55

@Redforshort that is awful.

Totur · 19/06/2019 15:11

Why are the boys allowed anonymity?
