Well done for getting out in that weather yesterday @Lockin26. It's always worse thinking about it than actually doing it. Belly pork and a hot shower sounded lovely after that 😋.
Hell yes the vaccinations are invaluable for them , glad to say they are all fine here today bless them ❤️

Definitely thermals weather now @DiscombobulatedHedgehog! 🥶 It’s horrible when you have to think about how much heating you use, but at least you can have the fire on in the evenings. Dinner sounds lovely, especially the home grown leeks 😋
Going back to the heating, we never had heating in our house when l was growing up. Just the coal fire and a paraffin stove in the kitchen and it was freezing 🥶. We didn't have the money to have central heating so we are going back to those days by the seem of it .

Blimey @cuckoolodger you’ve done brilliantly there! 😮 That’s going to make so many meals and the freezer will be so well stocked. Well done 🤗👏

Two free teas, can’t complain at that @Frugal25! 😂❤️ Hope your lovely Mum had the most wonderful birthd and was thoroughly spoilt. Ifl know you she was ❤️ 🥰 .It sounds like you’d got some lovely gifts for her, and the flowers will be the perfect finishing touch. 💐❤️ I hope she had a really special day filled with love, happiness and lots of hugs and kisses . ❤️🎂 And good luck with Tesco tomorrow, I think we’re all getting too used to Lidl prices! 😂 .

She’s definitely a proper Yorkshire girl @SpookyHalloweenDeviledEggs 🤗! Your grandmother would be so proud of her asking for bread with her tea! 😆 Glad you’re enjoying the colder weather too, l don't think l am going to enjoy it tbhbut you can't please everyone 🤗 🥶😁

At least you won’t need to buy Andrex for the next 20 years @RumBananaSundae 😁! Yesterday’s gone, don’t dwell on it sweetheart 😘
£10 on random groceries today isn’t too bad. We all have days when we’d rather not look at what we’ve spent , you are doing great sweetheart 😘

I'll say this quickly. £140 in Tesco. That's 2 weeks of Lidl in 1 week in Tesco. I nearly fainted. Managed to get pickle @RumBananaSundae
£20 on lunch with mum for birthday
£15 on a toy for DD. I happily paid for that as before she found this toy she wanted one that was £45.

Oh and £30 on gifts for friends birthdays. Been a horribly spendy day but all for birthdays mainly so it's fine. Had a lovely day, mum had a brilliant day thank you @DirtyGertiefromno30

My DMs first husband was northern and when they first married she found it very strange that everything, even salad, came with bread. When she went on to her 2nd husband and had me, it was just a normal thing, everything came with bread. I still do it now with my DD. The northerns got it right I think. :)

Very windy here but has dried a few loads of washing.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 10/10/2026 17:36

Mim was good there today thankfully, been a beautiful day here sunny and windy ❤️. There was a huge motorcade of 1k bikers for a funeral of a very popular local man today , we got caught up in the delay but it was fascinating seeing them all tbh, it's not everyday you see such a sight , thankfully some would say . It took us much longer to get home from seeing Mum though but is what it is . NSD for me yay!
£140 in Tesco @Frugal25😳. I’d have nearly fainted too especially when your bills are nowhere near that normally! At least you got your pickle 😂 . Glad you had a lovely day with your
Mum and she had a brilliant birthday ❤️ . And the toy was a real bargain compared to the £45 one 😁.
Everything should come with bread in my opinion 😂 . At least the wind’s been good for drying the washing, l have done loads this past 2days 💪🤗

About £4 in Sainsbury. Really don’t like the self service machines they always give you change in shrapnel. That I’m desperate to get rid of so I try to spend it as soon as possible.

Enjoy your pickle @Frugal25. It’s on my menu for this coming week. Windy here today too. Glad your mum had a good birthday.

Good to hear your mum is OK @DirtyGertiefromno30. That’s a lot of bikers. It must have been quite a spectacle.

On the sofa catching up on yesterday’s Traitor’s. Have legal bits to do but that can wait until tomorrow.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 10/10/2026 19:51

I know what you mean about all that shrapnel @RumBananaSundae😂. I always try to get rid of it whenever l can too 😁. Enjoy your evening on the sofa catching up with Traitors, that's much more appealing than doing legal bits! We absolutely love Celebrity Traitors here, we are glued 😂.

Ach that’s annoying - there was a huge shortage here a couple of years ago so DP grabbed a couple he saw in Coop yesterday just to know we had them safe for stockings…”reduced” from £2.50 to £2 each!!

Today I’ve bought a sewing box for my daughter for Christmas (she likes designing and sewing her own teddies) and I couldn’t believe the price of them in even in Hobbycraft and Dunelm. Managed to get a pretty one on eBay for £5.

SpookyHalloweenDeviledEggs · 11/10/2026 04:42

I try to avoid the bread and butter when I can to be honest. Whisper

@DiscombobulatedHedgehog
What you now need to do is go buy a load more from Tesco therefore reducing your unit pricing ;-)
#girlmath

Yesterday was a good day.

£3 in Sainsbury's on a bar of chocolate and some sprinkles
£10 on a Christmas present for DD.
£16 on a dress from tu that only had a smaller size than what I need really so brought on off chance it would fit. Reader, it definitely doesn't 😆

I'm sure the salad kebab we have the availability to buy from the chippy would blow her mind in that case 😆
Or mushy pea cob anybody?

Twogingercats · 11/10/2026 13:13

Good afternoon all,
I have dropped off for a couple of very challenging days. Puss has been very unwell, she has a chronic condition which flares up now and then. She was clearly in a lot of pain and had stopped eating properly. We arranged to take her to the out of hours vet hospital, where they know her, and the car refused to start! Our next door neighbour was very kind and took us. It has ended well, the lovely vet gave Puss a jab of painkiller to good effect and we had the RAC out the next morning. It was the battery which the RAC man was able to replace on the spot. We had an Air B&B booked for this weekend to see family and friends but we cancelled as we could not leave Mum with as sick cat.
so, £200 for new car battery, £200 for vet, we may be able to claim some money back from her insurer. We got a small refund from Air B&B of £70 but lost about £180
we are to go and meet a friend tomorow to a large antique centre which we had planned to do on our way home. Not that I shall be buying any antiques!
I shall take a car picnic.
i got our neighbour a nice bunch of flowers and chocs from Marks and my friend a Birthday gift card from the same. About £30 there too for groceries.
am spent up!
hope you have a lovely time with your cousin @DirtyGertiefromno30 and that your Mum is well. Happy Sunday to all the Frugaleers. X

Frugal25 · 11/10/2026 13:17

Happy birthday dirty cousin! I hope she has a wonderful day @DirtyGertiefromno30
I adore happy sunny people.

How can you the and avoid bread @SpookyHalloweenDeviledEggstell me your secrets.

A NSD here thankfully. Been to have a cuppa with DM and now pruning a very large Bush in the garden now I know the birds have left it. They nest in it every year.
OH gave me a bit of a pep talk yesterday on putting through weight back on that I worked so hard to lose. He is right of course. So later I shall be making overnight oats and a salad for tomorrow so I don't get tempted by Gregg's.
What a gorgeous day today. Washing is being done. And all it right with the world.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 11/10/2026 16:19

Oh blimey, you’ve had a time of it @Twogingercats bless you sweetheart! Poor Puss, hope she’s feeling much better now 🤗. Thank goodness your neighbour could help and the RAC got you going again 🙏. Such a shame about your weekend away and losing all that money 🥺. At least you’ve got the antique centre tomorrow to look forward to, even if you’re not buying anything . The car picnic sounds lovely 🤗.That was so nice of you to get your neighbour flowers and chocolates too. Hope things have calmed down a bit for you now . Thank you re my cousin she had a gorgeous birthday bless her heart ❤️

Thank you for your birthday wishes for my cousin @Frugal25she had a great birthday bless her ❤️.
What a lovely day for getting out in the garden and pruning that bush now the birds have gone 🤗 . Aw how lovely that the birds come back to nest in the same bush every year too 😊. Good on you getting organised with the oats and salad, it’s so easy to be tempted when you’re out and about. Sounds like a lovely day all round, washing on the line and all is right with the world 😊.
I have been listening to The Archers and really enjoying it 🤗. l went back three months so l can get into it properly 😁. NSD for me yay! 😁

96p in Asda on some wraps, 38p in Aldi on two tubs of rice and £2.69 in Sainsbury on wotsits. Should not have gone to Sainsbury.

Why not @DirtyGertiefromno30? If you’ll use them and it’s a good price why not? Happy birthday to your cousin. I hope you’ve had a lovely day. I used to be an Archers listener but I’ve not listened at all for about a year. I still download the omnibus so have quite a few hours to catch up on. Well done on the no spend.

Sorry about Puss @Twogingercats. I hope she’s recovering well. And boo to the car and the missed trip. Quite an eventful (and expensive) weekend.

Still have the solicitor to reply to. That’s not something pleasant to look forward to this evening. What seems to be the never ending pasta from this week is still going so no menu planning yet.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 11/10/2026 19:20

You are right @RumBananaSundae why not indeed 🤗. You did very well with the shopping apart from the blinking Wotsits 😁. Hope you’ve had a lovely day and aren't feeling down sweetheart. You’ll have hours and hours of The Archers to catch up on 👏😊. Sod the solicitor tonight if you can, sounds like the last thing you need. At least the pasta is still going strong , l like pasta very much l could eat it every day tbh 😋😁

Xxx
I used to adore the archers. I haven't listened for a while. I shall try and get back into it.
