£100 for salad and dog food

I got some salad bits, fruit, dog food which was only £10, cheap veg, pack of mince, milk and yogurt well that’s £100 rounded up gone, on what was essentially a top up shop. Yes it’s my fault for buying £5 blueberries, I know there’s frozen but it’s not as nice and nothing should be so expensive anyway. if it’s this expensive to be healthy I’m not surprised hardly anyone does it.
I am only venting as I’m aware I have bought expensive food just saying I don’t think it should be expensive

OP posts:

I know why it is it’s because I’ve bought things like berries and a lot of it and a lot of salad I’m just saying it’s a shame it’s so expensive as it should be more accessible to everyone

If you're buying huge quantities it’s going to cost a lot more. What you listed in the OP, if just normal amounts, wouldn’t be anywhere near £100.

user2848502016 · 07/03/2026 17:18

I’ve just been in Tesco and spent just over £100 and that included fresh salmon and cat food and a lot more than just salad!
I think you need to look at what you’re buying and can you buy cheaper brands.

BunnyLake · 07/03/2026 17:20

I buy supermarket own brand real block butter 250g for £1.99.

ItsAWholeThing · 07/03/2026 17:21

Realscottishhaggis · 07/03/2026 15:35

It doesn’t include steak or alcohol it includes literally what I’ve said I can’t be bothered going through the list but it is genuinely just milk yogurt salad bits fruit and a pack of mince albeit a lot of it

So you say you bought a lot of it but are moaning about the price? 😂

Dollymylove · 07/03/2026 17:59

Where are you shopping, Fortnum & Mason?

RedRiverShore6 · 07/03/2026 18:11

How is the butter £7, I bought M&S brand butter for £2 the other day, is it a huge pack.

likelysuspect · 07/03/2026 18:17

I need to see the receipt

Also I need to understand why people go on about bloody blueberries all the time, fresh ones in this country taste stale and watery.

hollytheheroic · 07/03/2026 18:22

£4 for milk?

Yourangduckie · 07/03/2026 18:38

I had a Tesco delivery the other day with my weekly shop for 2 adults, 1 teen and a dog total amount £125.44 my shop included a fair amount of fruit & veg. Are you buying premium brands op?

somanychristmaslights · 07/03/2026 18:41

Choose cheaper fruit! Apples and bananas are cheap. Berries are always expensive.

BIWI · 07/03/2026 18:42

Are you shopping in a Tesco Express/Metro, @Realscottishhaggis? All the local stores (for all the major supermarkets) are more expensive than their bigger shops.

And also - what do you mean by 'salad bits'?

ultracynic · 07/03/2026 18:43

Receipt or it didn’t happen.

ChoosingMyOwnRandomUsername · 07/03/2026 18:44

Well it's hardly just salad and dog food, is it?

You've aso bought meat, dairy, vegetables and 'a lot' of expensive packs of berries...

AcquadiP · 07/03/2026 18:48

Aldi's Blueberries are £1.59 for 150g or you can get the 'wonky' ones at £1.09 for 125g. Both are nice.

Davros · 07/03/2026 18:52

£7 for butter? When I buy posh English butter from M&S it doesn’t cost that. Blueberries are bland but I’m not a fruit fan

YourWinter · 07/03/2026 19:37

Nobody believes this OP, so unless you post photos of the receipt you won’t get anyone agreeing it’s unreasonable.

HeddaGarbled · 07/03/2026 19:38

TBF, I can believe that those giant tubs of Lurpak could be £7.

What do you call a weekly shop? Like how many people do you buy for and which shop?

2, vegetarian so veggies, tins, dairy, etc and from Lidls. I understand that many are shopping for more than 2 but 100 quid seems very steep!

I think £100 is quite average now, everything is so expensive. I buy meat so that is a chunk of the budget. I shop for 4 and spend about £150, I have been trying though to spend less

RedRiverShore6 · 07/03/2026 21:27

If you buy about 10 pints of milk and 750g of butter of course it will be more expensive.

mondaytosunday · 07/03/2026 22:01

There’s other fruit that doesn’t cost £5. But £5 is not £100 so what else did you buy? Certainly not just salad and dog food you have in your title (plus the mince milk and yogurt). And have you not heard if the COL crisis and that prices have been going up further the last few years? And they will go up more as the Iran crisis has made oil skyrocket.
@Upsetbettyare you being sarcastic? That’s not a small shop.

notsuperbug · 07/03/2026 22:04

Berries and salad are not seasonal though. You are paying for the air miles. Try eating seasonal fruit and veg and you will save ££

No I’m not, it’s a small shop to me because I didn’t have to buy veg, yoghurt and a few other bits. That’s for 4.

tacocatgoat · 07/03/2026 22:20

We’ve just spent £60 in Tesco to pick up dinner, sbacks and drinks for a GF/DF guest, so went there for a better selection of stuff. We don’t usually shop there and for some reason it feels sooo expensive and our local one has so much choice that it’s difficult to locate the best deal on a certain item. The Aldi price matches don’t help, some things are the same price but others are hugely inflated!

Womaninhouse17 · 07/03/2026 22:27

Why were you buying blueberries? If you don't want your shopping to be so expensive, don't buy expensive things!
