cleaning

Hi
I am a cleaner
Most of my cleaning jobs are fine. I do an hours work, and then talk to the office staff for the next hour. Everyone is friendly and I get Xmas gifts for my "hard" work
But you know, I do get minimum wage for minimum work right? which barely pays the bills. But I get a job, appreciation, communication and gifts in return.
But I work at this one company which I am going to quit, because it isn't worth the hassle. They have had many cleaners before me (all have which have quit after 2 weeks)
I just don't understand a professional company who goes on team building courses to miss a basic principle!
They should realize I am a cleaner who basically gets paid bad income, but they expect high expectations? It doesn't make sense. They don't talk! No Xmas presents from them? No thanks for your hard work? Obviously I am not going to continue this silly job, with no rewards for myself.
But considering they put all this time in to team work/ course work to benefit the team, they forget cleaner? Who they expect high performance but will not do it because of low pay? How thick can a company be!
I am a cleaner who accepts minimum wage so I can socialise at work , read my book and do a bit of cleaning in between obviously. Pay me more if you want more lol
I don't mean to be a bad person, but don't you get what you pay for in life? I am on minimum wage which makes me poor, so why should I try hard in a job, which probably makes thousands? Why not pay me extra so I work harder and can feed family?
The company is horrible, they can't even be bothered to try to manipulate me at Xmas with a box of chocolates! Fuck that, I would rather be sacked

Bloody hell- zero work ethic. More fool whoever employs you. (If this is genuine).

it's like paying for a tin of beans at a discount store that is 16p but expecting high quality beans. its ridiculous

Who are you talking to in the office? Are you distracting other employees from their work?

err excuse me, you get what you pay for? can i employ you then for a pound an hour to clean my house. I expect exceptional results, sorry if you can't afford bills of this, that's not my problem, as long as my home is clean, you are a slave to minimum wage right? you do state you have a work ethic? Does that mean that I control you? You will do as I say right? It's work ethic after all

Is this some sort of thought experiment where there’s a gotcha that you’re not a cleaner?

zsbcghy · 01/01/2026 07:21

Sorry but if you want a job done properly then pay me properly. Most of you start moaning that "oh no I am unemployed" "what a waste of space" "relying on benefits"
Yet I am not on benefits , but still moan because I am on minimum wage so will do minimum work! Can't win!

zsbcghy · 01/01/2026 07:23

Sorry but I just think it is stupid to care for a company that dies not care about you. You work for wages to take care of your family, but seriously do you really give a shit about the company u work for?

I do. They’ve supported me massively this year.

zsbcghy · 01/01/2026 07:27

And hey , don't employ me then! I will just go on benefits and then you can moan that i can't get a job and you have to pay me, what do you people want? no work ethic or benefit people? you can't have both

You can’t just go on benefits. You’ll be expected to job search.

zsbcghy · 01/01/2026 07:33

I don't mean to be horrible people, I love work, but surely you agree you get what u pay for. Sorry if that is perceived that I have no work ethic. But I think the company has no work ethic, not me. Sorry , but I need to be appreciated in my job, especially if I am on minimum wage, you can't expect maximum work in minimum wage. Life doesn't work like that

If you get what you pay for....presumably they pay you for two hours, even at minimum wage, but you only work for one hour. Therefore they are paying you double minimum wage for the work you actually do.

If you don't want the job, don't do it.

You say you only do it to have communication with people....you don't work the time you are paid for....but expect thanks and presents....really?

zsbcghy · 01/01/2026 07:35

If life worked like that then i could go to Tesco for Heinz beans and expect to pay 1p lol

Yeah, some companies do care. I have a company that care too! They are amazing! I am talking about those ungrateful, arrogant companies that actually think they are better than cleaners! Makes me laugh!

why should you get more than minimum wage?
what qualifications do you have?
who should get minimum wage?

you are committing fraud by cleaning for an hour, charging them 2 hours

yeah, you have a point! and I feel guilty! But the office staff are talkative and I don't know if I am autistic or not (seriously) but they are very communicative and talkative! and I don't have the social skills to keep a conversation going. It's their fault (joke)
But i just think it it is disgraceful that the other office staff don't even give me a pack of biscuits on Xmas. No thanks. I have to do maximum work for minimum wage and no rewards like communications? Thanks? Bonus? Nothing? Why would I do it? I dislike Starmer but maybe he right? Only a immigrant would do this office job?

I don’t get a Christmas gift or a bonus from work.

not everywhere does that (I work in education ). Our cleaners don’t get anything either.

EleanorReally · 01/01/2026 07:58

no gifts or cards were shared with colleagues op
cost of living issues

zsbcghy · 01/01/2026 08:09

yeah, i appreciate that people in other jobs don't get Xmas presents (even though they should) everyone should be appreciated.
I just meant that I work for 3 cleaning companies and two of the cleaning companies gave me gifts.
The one that didn't was the one with high expectations with minimum wage, communications and worth, yet they gave each other Xmas presents, like beers, chocolates and wine! which I had to experience, and I found disgusting that they couldn't even give me a bar of chocolate to say thanks for the hard work.
But u know I am just here to complain right? Not ruined my life! I am here to rant! And leaving company soon! lol not the end of world

BCBird · 01/01/2026 08:15

I would be a bit disappointed if there was a show of appreciation from some companies but not another. I can't understand though, how you can think it is ok to spend one hour talking when you aee being paid to work. I know it's nicer to be able to pass the time at work having a chat, but chatting instead of working is another thing all together.
