Could we do what Poland has done? Would you be in favour?

I very much am visiting family as I have lived here for over 20 years.

Nawrocki has signed and submitted a draft to the Sejm meaning it’s just a legislative proposal, not a binding law yet. It can still fail or be modified.

Cool.

So what do you think about this? Good Idea? Or are you not bothered by it?

If you're comparing haircuts to national legislation then I think we're done here.

Have a nice evening 😊

Divert attention all you want. You posted a click bait headline. You being supercilious doesn't change that fact. I had to use a spurious example because you are being... well, spurious.

Okay well I find you needlessly aggressive.

What about single people who already don’t have anyone to share bills with?

It’s a f*#@ing stupid idea. How unfair is that? People with no kids have to pay for other people’s? Bugger off! We paid for our kids, as should everyone.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 19/10/2025 21:30

I have a gay friend who has worked in the UK for about 15 years and was planning on returning to Poland. Until this guy got in.

Readyforslippers · 19/10/2025 21:31

I also just think incentivising people to have children for money is wrong.

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/10/2025 21:32

JLou08 · 19/10/2025 20:47

Those educated children will fund the retirement of older generations and potentially their health and social care bills too.

Why? We will be funding our own because we planned accordingly. Having kids is a choice and a privilege, not a right and people shouldn’t expect special treatment if they choose to have them.

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/10/2025 21:34

SummerEve · 19/10/2025 21:03

I don't have an alternative suggestion. I am tired of childless people getting treated less favourably though.

Hear, hear. They get a bum deal in all sorts of ways.

BCBird · 19/10/2025 21:35

SummerEve · 19/10/2025 20:33

And what about people who don't have 2 children? I would not be happy about this at all.

Exactly my sentiments

GreyCloudsAbove · 19/10/2025 21:36

RobG · 19/10/2025 21:22

Cool.

So what do you think about this? Good Idea? Or are you not bothered by it?

Its a terrible idea but the subject is huge and would really require covering a lot of historical data, communism, solidarity, supporting Ukraine and Polish families already getting cash benefit 800zl for the children.

The draft aims to provide significant tax relief to families who have two or more children and the income threshold is fairly high even for Poland as its 140k zloty per parent ( 280k for both) so a really good salary in Poland. People on that salary definitely don't need tax break, and in fact that sort of tax break should be provided for parents who need it the most- those with disabled children.

Because it is a tax relief rather than a universal benefit, families with very low taxable income (or not working) may benefit less (or not at all) compared to middle-income working families. Some observers note it may favour those already doing reasonably well.

Eliminating PIT for a large group reduces tax revenue. The draft will have fiscal implications (for the state budget, social funds, maybe local governments). Now anyone living in Poland who is retired or sick will tell you of the cuts that were made in order to give to those with children. We know plenty of sick people who were told they were healthy enough to work and dont deserve health benefit ( disability pension). Dad's friend post severe cancer - healthy to work. Another one lost arm in work accident - healthy to work. My mum wasnt granted the benefit despite not being able to move due to her back and no feeling in one arm. They are all retired now but their retirement funds got cut down too because there just isnt enough in the pot. Pension rules are different in Poland so they worked and paid lots through workplace pension ( private pension wasnt much of a thing and still isn't) and fully deserve that money after 35 years.

Then you have the Ukraine drama. They were welcomed. Lots abused the system. Got everything for free. The demand of going into shops / hairdressers / doctors/ pharmacies not only demanding priority but also getting it all for free is something the news didnt show over here. I have witnessed some seriously bonkers things.

So in a short to give those benefits out to people, you've gotta cut it from somewhere else and its going to take away from people who aren't capable to work or already worked for the money they wont be getting now.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/10/2025 21:36

As a single person with no kids. I would not be happy

Lowarnes · 19/10/2025 21:37

Isn’t this to incentivise people to have children because of depopulation in Europe? With the old outweighing the young, it’s a huge crisis in the making

Blump2783 · 19/10/2025 21:37

So given the income limits it isn't really much different to here when you take into account the tax free threshold of a couple both in work. Bit of a non discussion really.

Dollymylove · 19/10/2025 21:37

We can't afford it in the UK. Too many people already taking from the pot but contributing nothing 😒

RaininSummer · 19/10/2025 21:38

Rather unfair on those of us who did pay all though those years. Anyway, we can hardly afford to reduce the number of tax payers any further.

SpottyAardvark · 19/10/2025 21:41

Having children is a lifestyle choice. One which is already heavily subsidised by taxpayers.

As someone who has made a different lifestyle choice; to be childfree, my view is that I already pay more than enough to subsidise parents and I won’t be voting for them to receive yet more perks at my expense.

SpryUmberZebra · 19/10/2025 21:44

Garamousalata · 19/10/2025 20:33

We all benefit from good education.

And what happens to the tax income of majority of people decide to have 2 children which mean they stop paying tax?

Theyreeatingthedogs · 19/10/2025 21:44

childofthe607080s · 19/10/2025 21:06

good grief we don’t need more people on the planet ! Can’t afford to have a kid ? have 2 !

a tax break wouldn’t put money back - it just changes
who is in control of how it is spent - so someone buying kids plastic toys froM China instead of someone paying for a few extra nurses

We do need more kids. The falling birthrate means there won't be enough workers to pay the pensions in a few years.

I think it’ll change a fair bit by the time they’re on the workforce due to AI. We might not need more and if we do have more there could be high unemployment.
