Could we do what Poland has done? Would you be in favour?

surely that’s not real

Yes, from August.

What a ridiculous idea.

What makes you say that?

I mean, 😄 what about mums of one?!

SummerEve · 19/10/2025 21:03

A tax break for parents would put money back into the economy.

What would you suggest as an alternative?

I don't have an alternative suggestion. I am tired of childless people getting treated less favourably though.

Yes, from August.

Yes so change your title. Poland has not JUST DONE THIS.

Abortion is pretty much illegal in Poland. This is the least they can do, arseholes.

This is the very first thing I thought!

Winter2020 · 19/10/2025 21:04

ThrowAwayHooray · 19/10/2025 20:37

As usual the devil’s in the detail, families are only exempt if they earn UNDER €32,973 which is about £28,643

Edited

I think most families earning under 29k would get more in universal credit than they pay in tax so don't really pay any tax anyway.

RedRiverShore5 · 19/10/2025 21:05

I first read it to mean everyone with two or more children so OP is not very clear

childofthe607080s · 19/10/2025 21:06

good grief we don’t need more people on the planet ! Can’t afford to have a kid ? have 2 !

a tax break wouldn’t put money back - it just changes
who is in control of how it is spent - so someone buying kids plastic toys froM China instead of someone paying for a few extra nurses

EasternStandard · 19/10/2025 21:06

No income tax at all?

ok scrolled back I see there’s a threshold

YourJoyousDenimExpert · 19/10/2025 21:07

The quoted decision is incomplete as it only applied to those earning below a certain threshold - not to all parents with two or more children…..
There is zero chance of all families with two or more children in the UK being exempted from income tax so not worth getting excited or agitated about…..

Fair point.

Any ideas about an equivalent for single/ child free folks?

Yes but half a story to try and stir up emotions is much better than the full rounded picture in

Well I think thats pretty recent, so the title stays. (unless you are an admin here?)

This legislation is less than two months old.

Its food for thought, and this is how ideas are generated, just like discussion.

If its not interesting to you then there are other threads. 👍

The birth rate in Poland is down to 1.1 and it's not renowned for its pro-immigration policies, so they'll have to do something dramatic.

FKAT · 19/10/2025 21:11

I don't think it's the worst idea - having low income families tax exempt instead of the complicated universal credit system.

RedRiverShore5 · 19/10/2025 21:11

It probably needs editing to add the threshold for completeness

So August = just done?

I had my haircut in August, it's not a haircut that I 'just had done'. Also you posted a misleading image, without any news links to the information on the bill itself. Click bait way of expressing yourself if I am being kind.

GreyCloudsAbove · 19/10/2025 21:11

Do you realise thats not real ? 🤣🤣🤣

Readyforslippers · 19/10/2025 21:12

Sounds incredibly unfair to me.

If you're comparing haircuts to national legislation then I think we're done here.

Have a nice evening 😊
