Im trying to get an idea of whether what we use is normal for the size of our house. I've been making real efforts to reduce the amount of electricity we use but it's still going to be over £100 this month. DC have just gone back to uni and so it should drop a bit next month but not dramatically.

I live in a 4 bed detached house. 6 rooms downstairs, plus the downstairs loo, 4 bedrooms plus three bathrooms. We pay £190.75 a month, for both gas and electricity. We pay the same all year round and have £832 in credit. Only three of us live in the house, but the Xbox is on alot, along with charging phones, dishwasher, tumble dryer on most days aswell as the washing machine & a hot water tap. Just normal family use to be fair. My providers for both utilities is Octopus, the best company we have ever been with. ...We haven't had the heating on a lot. Heating comes on each morning at 6.30am, for my ds getting up for work, if it's too warm, l turn it off when l & my dh get up for work. Think we have had the heating switched on perhaps three times in the evening

We’re a small household (2 adults) in a modest-sized home, and our electricity usually costs around £90–£110 per month. Usage goes up in winter with heating and longer evenings. Things like electric showers, tumble dryers, or EV charging can push costs up quite a bit, so £100+ doesn’t seem unusual depending on what you’re running.

Last two months have been £149 and £170 for a big house, four people. Think quite a lot of it is the hot tub.

3 bedrooms. Large rooms, high ceilings, detached. Period property. £60 month

Estimate up until march is £109 a month. 3 bed detached house, electric ovens, gas heating.

Around £85 for electric and £40 for gas at the minute. 3 bed semi with 2 adults. I’m home all the time. Electric cooking, shower and tumble dryer on a lot at the minute.

Mine is typically £45 - £50, 3 bed semi, two of us, retired, double electric oven and induction hob, dishwasher which I use almost daily, washing machine 3-4 times a week. My shower is gas.

Ours is similar , but in our case it’s old fashioned electric underfloor heating in a conservatory that’s open to lounge ( rented quite big house) - and the lounge becomes chilly if we don’t have it on for 5 hours once it’s dark - drops by half from March to October

6 bed detached plus annexe, 3 kids and DH does hybrid working, about £500 a month

XenoBitch · 19/12/2025 21:11

About £70 for both. Just me in a 3 bed mid-terrace.

MrsMattSantos · 19/12/2025 22:55

4 bed detached house, all electric. pay £100 a month, which covers charging for 2 EVs, so no petrol or diesel costs

caseyhunt · 23/12/2025 08:27

Agree with this. Usage really depends on heating, appliances, and how often you're home.
We started checking our monthly electricity details more regularly to stay on budget.
This helped with quick bill checks.
