85p in Tesco on milk
£7 in Dunelm mill I brought some decorations for my Halloween tree.

SockHop · 03/09/2025 21:32

Thanks @JustStopItNora . The ceiling is starting to look better already. I don’t think there’s been any damage so hopefully it’s just a paint job.

I’ve spent £7 at the corner shop on milk (they only had 4 pint containers left! That’s a lot of tea drinking I have to do!) and then some supplies for work. No other spends.
I was hoping to do another no spend day tomorrow, but I might need to do a big vitamin order as I’m running low of some bits.

Frugal25 · 03/09/2025 21:42

If you need help drinking tea @SockHop then I'm your girl
So sorry about your ceiling, very glad it looks to be "just" a paint job.
Last year I had my bathroom done and the plumber was so bad that the bathroom leaked and brought the kitchen ceiling down two days before Christmas. It's always a worry to find a leak. Your house should be a safe place not something to worry over.

Well done for working out a daily budget @JustStopItNora such a great idea. I think I'll do the same

Vinorosso74 · 04/09/2025 07:40

Pleased to have found you all again! Summer didn't quite go to plan and has been quite spendy. We had a couple of trips away-one UK city break and one to Seville (lovely place) we did fill up once breakfast buffet in Seville so lunch each day was crisps/some v tasty breadsticks and ice cream to cool down.
My dad isn't well so I've had 2 trips to visit so far. I've spent a few quid in hospital shops and some car parking costs. Got the train up last time £130 return! Going again next week £120! Ridiculous. I can't face the drive for shorter visits.
I missed out on some work over the summer due to wanting to be there too.
I do have some coming up but it's a quieter time of year. Got some work with my side hustle which is terrible money but I'll take it while it's there.
September will need to be a frugal month!

chimichangaz · 04/09/2025 07:58

Yesterday I paid a deposit for a weekend away next year celebrating my friends birthday £59. Today won’t be a NSD as I’ve got a gig later - trains and drinks. I also need something to wear - hopefully just a top as the weather is proper autumnal so I can pull out my black skinnies!

Sock that’s rubbish about your ceiling. Reminds me I have to get a roofer to look at my kitchen extension roof as that occasionally leaks and I have a small patch on the ceiling to sort out.

Vino I’m sure you’ve already done this but split tickets might be cheaper for your trains? Sorry to hear your ddad is poorly.

Vinorosso74 · 04/09/2025 08:35

@chimichangaz unfortunately, when I've looked the split tickets don't save much-£2 or £3. I did look at splitting the journey with different train operators but it takes quite a bit longer!

JustStopItNora · 04/09/2025 09:53

Failed in my quest to spend no more than £15 today. £26 at Aldi but tbf I had run out of fabric conditioner and shampoo so stocked up a bit on that. I also renewed my swimming pool membership for the month. I am determined to go daily after drop off - even for 15 minutes as my back and arthritis is bad. It's £9 a pop including parking but £41 for the monthly pass including parking so an initial spend but better overall.

Although i have to renew my Dcs bus passes later so that's another £100 odd.

I am crap at this frugal lark.

Hope your DDad is better soon @Vinorosso74 Thanks

Rainbow1901 · 04/09/2025 10:37

£22.91 in Home Bargains and £18.28 in Lidl but £3.98 of that is for DD and NDN. Also did a separate shop for NDN as she can't drive at the moment but that will come back to me later today.
Times are changing - today is the last day of full childcare for GS who started school yesterday. He has another session in school tomorrow and then in fully from Monday. 😥We dropped his sister off this morning and he wanted to go in too.😅

ChipshopPickledEgg · 04/09/2025 13:12

The idea of a daily budget sounds really interesting!
Think I might give that a go.

pistachiosanscream · 04/09/2025 13:16

Not too bad spending wise the last couple of days. yesterday was €3.60 on milk and a sausage roll in work. Then €12.50 on a new throw for the couch.

Today so far ive spent €35 on renewing a newspaper subscription. Small win they initially charged me double as i'd agreed to renew under a cancellation clause but a quick email got that rectified.

@SockHop i hope your ceiling is just a quick and cheap paint shop.

@Vinorosso74 its so hard trying to support ill family. i hope your dad gets better soon

@JustStopItNora you are doing great just tracking your expenses. I find now after nearly 2 years of doing this that i'm now able to anticipate expenses and make a plan for them but the first step really is tracking them all.

MaryGreenhill · 04/09/2025 15:12

Afternoon everyone 🤗
NSD for me today
Should think so too after the last 2 spendy days 😁
Hope everyone is fine ☺️

Vinorosso74 · 04/09/2025 15:59

Thank you all 😊

Retirementbeckons · 04/09/2025 16:25

Tesco 76. Ok. Petrol 40 ok

2 new tyres 264. Boo

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/09/2025 17:11

A daily budget is fine imo if it evens out over the week. Some days you have to spend over that but if others don’t then fair play

glad the ceiling is drying

£101 Sainsbury’s and not in meals

MaryGreenhill · 05/09/2025 12:09

21C here and it's gorgeous after a week of rain hope everyone gets this too 😁
Been to M&S for the sale but only bought 4 perfumes half price and some yellow sticker food . £35
Lidl £11 with a free sweet cake on my app yay!

SockHop · 05/09/2025 13:08

@JustStopItNora its not easy. I’m sure you’re doing great though. It sounds like all your spends were fairly necessary.

Ive just spent nearly £100 on a food shop. About than half of it was on replacing seasonings/oils etc that had run out. Will probably last me a year.

I also bought a small bunch of flowers for a colleague who is having a bit of a rough time £9

My ceiling continues to be drying out nicely. I think I was very lucky!

chimichangaz · 05/09/2025 13:23

Didn’t go to the gig yesterday after all but sold the ticket. Bought a few books and dvds £7 charity shop, £14 Aldi and £6 Poundland. Finished balancing my YNAB august budget and updated September.

Today so far £8 on a top in TK Maxx and £3 on some jeans from the charity shop. £26 haircut (from budget).

Girls night in tonight so there will be a takeaway and wine 😊

Lovely weather here today - have been to the tip and just got some washing on. Will finish my housework today so I have a weekend free of jobs 🥳

Ive recommended a book previously but in case it’s of help to the newbies I’ll recommend again - Thrift your life by Heidi Ondrak. Also recommending Rebel Finance School - look them up on YouTube but be quick as the videos only stay up so long.

ChipshopPickledEgg · 05/09/2025 13:26

£15 in food warehouse on three my protein meals and some Muller myprotein Chocolate moose which will do me for the weekend. My husband is away so this could be a dangerous time in my diet!

Another £10 in boots on San Pro hair removal and shampoo conditioner.

Aims for the weekend -

  • take snacks with us everywhere we go
  • make sure I take my daughter's drink (no expensive fruit shoots!)
  • coffee only comes from my own kitchen!
  • food only comes via my kitchen!
Frugal25 · 05/09/2025 14:23

An expensive few days for me. Sigh.
£190 odd on Christmas presents to get them whilst I remember and they are available.
£70 odd in Lidl on weekly food shop.
£6 play group for DD.
£26 on Amazon buying bits to make my own deodorant. Worked out it's cheaper to make than buy fussy or wild.
NSD today. Thankfully. I've done my budget and it's left me with very little until pay day coz of my Christmas buying. Although OH did say he would give me the £71 for the Santa booking as I said after some thought it's just too expensive and would cancel it.
I do have some bits to sell on vinted though so will do this tomorrow.
Gorgeous weather here today. Hope everyone is having a lovely Friday xxxx

JustStopItNora · 05/09/2025 16:46

Thanks @SockHop Smile

My day expenses were - unexpected. DH found a sideboard which we have been looking for for a while. He went home leaving me in the shop to continue browsing to get our bigger car to fit it in and the car broke down. So i paid for the sideboard while waiting (£267) and we had a call out fee for the car as well - just a flat battery so that was fine. But it all took hours so I treated myself to a pub lunch- £20.75 for a fish pie and a glass of wine.

Frugal25 you have reminded me that my Christmas present account is going to be put to the test this year. :(

ChipshopPickledEgg · 05/09/2025 18:27

Just accidentally blew £20 on a Chinese takeaway - tomorrow will be Extreme fasting but in the evening will be left overs.

ladyfelicia · 05/09/2025 20:55

Yesterday was a nsd, today £6.58 coffee and cake with a friend.
Gorgeous weather today, hope everyone got to enjoy it

Vinorosso74 · 06/09/2025 10:05

Saw a friend last night, spent about £40. Today will be low spend, need to buy some food bits and a birthday card. Hoping for a relatively low spend week.
I have plans to see a couple of other friends in the next fortnight.
Think our oven might be on the way out. Trying to decide if it's worth paying extra for self cleaning....

ememem84 · 06/09/2025 10:20

Nsd yesterday. Woo.

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/09/2025 13:47

Annoyed that my Sainsbury gift card works not scan. Will have to try them online. £46
