Just realised I overbought the school uniform. Tried on the kids stuff and turns out dd doesn’t need 3 new cardigans. They old ones still fit

ChipshopPickledEgg · 02/09/2025 19:47

That's a case of sods law being a bitch em. Had you not brought them they wouldn't have a single one to be found.

chimichangaz · 02/09/2025 20:14

Hopefully you can take them
back em?

I didn’t win anything on PB this month either, but I did take some out for a lump sum off the mortgage, and I had £50 last month so I can’t complain.

spent £16:50 in B&M but £8 of that is going back (baskets that are too small).

£8 in Next on two lovely pink photo frames - I was just repainting some old Ikea ones this afternoon but the paint has gone gunky so these were a good spot. Had coffee and cake with a friend but she paid. We almost had a fight at the counter over whose turn it was to pay 🤣

Almost forgot, spent about a fiver on nothing in Morrisons this morning waiting for the Evri shop to open to post a Vinted parcel.

And my car turned out to be very spendy - £190 on brakes and an air con refresh and then £256 next week on what I thought would be at least £100 cheaper.

And the plumber is coming tomorrow- and I also need to get some other house jobs booked in. Feels painful but it all needs doing.

RumBananaSundae · 02/09/2025 20:31

How is the camping gear looking Happier?

Bought two t-shirts today (2x£19.90) in Uniqlo, another pair of gaiters (£35) I say another as I’m trying to find a pair I like and about £9 on groceries for supper.

Was trying to be frugal but I have a meeting I’m dreading tomorrow afternoon so just went with it.

Sorry about the cardigans em. I do things like that.

Happierwithouthim · 02/09/2025 20:50

Camping gear is safely tucked up in the shed for another year except for a couple of bits I need to power wash some day. My two apprentices weren’t very pleased with having to assist.
plumber was a no show, hopefully he’ll come another eve.

went to athletics club training so had a second shower today after coming home. I need to eat, luckily there’s leftovers so it’ll be a quick microwave job when I get out from under duvet. Anyone else do that for a few mins after a shower?

found a strength and conditioning class too starts week after next

pistachiosanscream · 02/09/2025 21:00

Glad the camping gear I’d put away @Happierwithouthim

i did similar @ememem84 and bought navy leggings twice. However I’ve decided to keep them as they are pretty hard on them.

today spent €20 on a leaving gift for work collection and €5 on some sourdough from the farmers market. It’s not the best sourdough so won’t be purchasing again.

lifelongfrugaleer · 02/09/2025 21:01

All the promises of Yorkshire tea dashed!!!!

The bread looks lovely happier. And yeah on putting the camping gear away.
i sit in the towel off in hot but don’t get into bed, no
good luck for 10k

hope the therapy helps em. You’ve been through so much. MIL get home ok did she. your future self will thank you when dd needs cardigans and there are non in the shops

welcome new frugaleers. I’m rubbish at cheap meals sorry.
I’m actually being super rubbish at not spending but it’s from my annual expenses pot as birthdays x 2 are coming

the Christmas things are shocking in price these days

i wish we were allowed first class travel. Lucky thing

I’m sure I’ve missed loads sorry

ememem84 · 02/09/2025 21:21

Yes I can take back so that’s not a problem really.

Retirementbeckons · 02/09/2025 21:33

Don’t worry escape is from work
just realised user name is missing a t.
i won 50 on pb but now buying you all tea as only just met you😁

SockHop · 02/09/2025 22:25

Well done putting the camping gear away @Happierwithouthim. It’s the worst part of camping!
Welcome @Retiremenbeckons

Ive had 2 NSDs (other than tube fair to work)
Tomorrrow I’ve got to buy batteries light dd for as a birthday present, but no spends planned other than that. I’m hoping to make it to the weekend without buying anything else.

Thanks for sharing the recipe again @needastrongoneagain

ChipshopPickledEgg · 03/09/2025 06:01

@Retiremenbeckons but.... But.... But .... It's erm the initiation to the group? (Welcome!)

Update on the euro millions... well I've been at work since five.

PearlsPearl · 03/09/2025 06:14

Not buying us tea, how rude! (welcome, @Retiremenbeckons!)

I bought a ticket for Set for Life which I never do just in the spirit of this thread. Too lazy to venture downstairs to check it yet!

£71 for SANTA 😫I'd want a gold necklace present for that price!

PearlsPearl · 03/09/2025 06:15

Oh and today will be £30 for nails, £30ish for Tesco bits.

Returning £20 Amazon order but I always just get that put back in the amazon account since we spend £15 a week on dog food from there anyway.

Have a good day Frugaleers!

JustStopItNora · 03/09/2025 06:29

Morning all.

Welcome @Retiremenbeckons !

Hoping for a low spend day. I am making quiche, new pots and salad for dinner so just need to buy pastry. Not sure if I will do a salmon quiche or lorraine. DCs likely to hate it either way.

Hope everyone is well!

SockHop · 03/09/2025 07:40

Oh I won £50 on PB this month! Where shall I send the tea delivery to?

I also came downstairs this morning to water dripping through my dining room ceiling. Have spent the past hour mopping up/placing buckets/moving furniture etc. The water is coming from the bathroom above although luckily it’s not a leak - just carelessness on our behalf. Hoping there won’t be much damage - but maybe I better keep that tea for now incase I have to provide beverages for lots of workmen over the next few days 😬

ememem84 · 03/09/2025 08:10

Funny one. My client had a bit of a meltdown at a bank/investment house. We sent instruction and bank def recieved it. Via email and courier. They didn’t act on it.

we complained. The bank offered us two hampers of tea and cake as compensation. The difference between sale on date we wanted and date it eventually was actioned was about £90k.

needless to say we did not accept the tea and cake.

Alwayslearning25 · 03/09/2025 08:20

We spent £22 on a veg box I don't get regularly. And £35 I takeaway last night. I also bought breakfast at work yesterday for £2.50. looking at all my regular bills. I think we could cancel the vet pet club. It pays for flea and worm treatment as well as 6 monthly check ups and vaccinations , but it may be cheeper to pay for those things separately. We have savings specifically for our dog, as after we claimed on cruciate ligament surgery for our dog we cancelled insurance as it went up significantly and he's 13 now, so wouldn't want to put him through any long and difficult treatment/surgery. His other cruciate went a few years ago as well but the vet recommended rest instead of surgery as he was older. And he can still get about fine.

Rainbow1901 · 03/09/2025 09:05

Last night £25 paid out for my share of meal out with DD and her MIL before a planned night out at a show plus £6 for a half share towards car parking.
During the meal we were chatting and looking forward with shock (and some horror!) at potential planned activities for Christmas for the GCs. Because of the various marriages and remarriages on both sides of the family the GCs have a very fortunate plethora of GPs and GGPs so we all try to do different activities with them.
This activity which we have done for the past few years is a lot of fun and we share the cost of the GCs tickets. But this year is also more expensive as it is a different company offering a slightly different experience and involves everyone dressing up too.
We also decided that one of GDs Xmas presents will be shared between us as we want to see the show too - so we can officially say we have started Xmas shopping. All these costs will already be covered by the Xmas savings so no shocks on bank accounts there.
Am avoiding food shopping at the moment - need to do an audit of the freezers - the last time I looked we had the potential to be vegetarians as that is all that seems to be in there at the moment. Not that it is an issue but means I have to be a little creative in menu planning.
A friend also suggested a morning trip to the cinema next week - being golden oldies - the tickets are just under a fiver! So will look forward to that.
Now that my daily routine has been adjusted from 3 full days childcare to school pickups - I'm thinking on how to fill my days productively and hopefully without sinking into an MH flunk. I'm still decluttering but that has fallen by the wayside because of the school holidays and redecorating the kitchen. I'm pondering taking up tap dancing again but need to look at costs for that activity but it would help my fitness levels.

chimichangaz · 03/09/2025 10:14

I’ve got a similar story @ememem84 but a much lower value. My old pension provider faffed and delayed so much with my pension that I lost out on growth of around £16k. When I presented the facts to them they basically said ‘nowt to do with me guv’ and stuck to their £350 compensation offer. Needless to say I’m escalating to the financial ombudsman.

@Rainbow1901 I’m also thinking how to fill my days productively and I had a look at our local councils adult learning offer yesterday. Lots of things I’m interested in like art classes, digital skills, photography and some of them are free. Others very reasonably priced. Might you have similar in your area?

JustStopItNora · 03/09/2025 10:44

Spent £11 -ish at Aldi. Hopefully that is it for today for me. DH is currently on the hunt for DS1 school shoes. It may be an Amazon job in the end.

So sorry about your leak @SockHop . We had similar in the summer and it was all fine once dried out though the ceiling paper came down. That's on DH's list to fix as we speak.

MaryGreenhill · 03/09/2025 11:01

Good morning everyone ☺️
Went to our local town , spent £7 in Primark , it's very good for certain things, pkt of 3 tea towels, 2 x glasses chains , pack of soft toothbrushes and a pack of 3 dish clothes , Halloween ones 😂
Lidl spent £30 on food .
Hope everyone is ok and has a good day 😊

Morning all! Miserable weather today so instead of hanging around after checking out of the airbnb we came on home. Washing machine is on and everything has been put away - it's like we were never away!
Spends today Tesco delivery £70
Extra bits in Tesco that I forgot to add to the order £5
Cattery bill £60 ish
Back to work tomorrow so the next 2 days should be nsd hopefully

Frugal25 · 03/09/2025 13:00

A spendy day today which I'm not used to anymore so I'll say this quickly and get it over with.
£37.95 in Waterstones on Christmas gifts
£57.97 in Smyth's on Christmas gifts
£15.04 petrol
£10.20 on a taxi last night trying to get back before DD fell asleep. In vain.
£1.75 on bread
£2.20 on grapes
£55 on osteopath

I shall now be trying to Scrabble for the rest of the month clawing money back. Sigh. But I did get £8 refund from vinted.

Happierwithouthim · 03/09/2025 13:35

plumber didn’t show up but he just rang me that he forgot so he’ll be on this eve.

I frugally ate leftovers yesterday because it was late and I was hungry, they were there uncovered so had dried out, it filled a gap but other than being frugal wasn’t a great move!

Em i buy uniform at start of year because exh will contribute then but if it’s mid year I bear the whole cost.

Glad to be gone beyond Santa visits at that extortionate cost

JustStopItNora · 03/09/2025 14:11

Just calculated how much I have until next pay day. If I spend no more than £15 a day then I will have a small amount leftover to put away into my holiday / christmas account. Usually I am in my overdraft by payday so that is something to aim for.

That said- my SIL has a big birthday and we need to get her something lovely. As she is lovely and generous with us so I want to do something nice for her. DH and I have joint accounts, but we each allocate a portion for everyday spending which is what I am working off. I'll have to talk with him about what we can budget for.
