Welcome @JustStopItNora ! Love your name!

Thank you @MaryGreenhill 😍

Had a hair cut today but she didn't want paying for it as it was just a trim. Winning at life and saved £20.
Then went shopping and spent £24 on Christmas presents that will be perfect for some friends. But that was budgeted for.
Made £25 on vinted as sold my picnic basket that I've never used. Will spend this on more Christmas presents as I have a list 😁
Need to put some more bits on vinted tbh, maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

ChipshopPickledEgg · 30/08/2025 18:45

Pulling up a Pugh.
Had a bit of a spend today brought three dresses and a sweater for £100 but haven't brought clothes for a bit.
Were having an Indian tonight and cake. I think the CEO of my nutracheck might come track me down 😆
Lots of love and here's to a lovely autumnal season.

Frugal25 · 30/08/2025 18:48

Forgot to add, @tato that your Saturday night of Netflix and candles is right up my street so enjoy!

Welcome back to those returning too :)

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/08/2025 19:05

Thanks Mary

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/08/2025 19:07

Let us know what you think of TMC tayto

Happierwithouthim · 30/08/2025 21:17

Ds is definitely my son, he came home with a bin bag of his too small clothes from his fathers & is planning on putting them up on Vinted!

thanks for new thread
I didn’t leave the house at all today
still managed to spend though

My hairdryer isn’t heating the air anymore, I emailed about options & got a 25% off goodwill code. Well today they had a warehouse sale & hairdryer was reduced by 50%, the code worked on top of that. I’m well pleased with my deal & the purchase

yesterday spent €7 using 20kg dryer as I have yet to purchase a dryer.

I used to do a dunnes shop and use €10 off €50 and spend maybe €45+ weekly but would also visit Lidl a couple of times a week. Last week I used the €5 off €25 also, they’ve extended how long it lasts for so I can use both together weekly. The smaller voucher needed to be used by Wednesday previously.
The supply of Weetos has run out, I bulk buy on offer, ds knows the difference in cheaper brand Sad

I’m going to try using the two vouchers again this week.

This recipe is for bread served in Inchydoney Hotel & Spa in West Cork. Going to try it out. I love nuts. Might make soup too. I’m feeling a bit autumnal.

Dd turned on heating on Thurs eve ShockShock

I did a YNAB fresh start today ahead of 1st Sept
Priorities are timing belt on car, heating oil, Christmas & filling emergency fund up again.

Vacuummyblub · 30/08/2025 21:24

I need thus thread. Have overspent in August so now on the back foot going in to September.
Today not great still.
I bought a new electric toothbrush for my husband. Son needed new tracksuit bottoms (he starts School Monday and needs PE kit first day.)
Also bought a cherry Potter as I've so much fruit I've collected from our cherry plum tree. Already made 7 jars of jame which will easily last us the year so I'm hoping to pit and freeze the rest. I quickly gave up doing this without the tool!
On the plus side no spending on 'entertainment' we had a nice walk and got some bonus blackberries.
Swimming tomorrow should cost €9. Need a couple of bits from. The supermarket but I'll put them on the loyalty card.

chimichangaz · 30/08/2025 21:42

Thanks for the thread @MaryGreenhill and welcome to new joiners and hi to regulars.

Think I last posted on Thursday - had chippy tea on Friday £5.50 (mini fish and chips, could have been worse but my favourite Chinese was shut 🤣). Sorted out my shed in the day and was ravenous by teatime. Today I had lunch with a friend £25 and then spent £22 in Sainsbury’s on a top up shop. Ooh also bought some storage boxes from Argos but had a voucher so I’m not counting that.

Need to update my budget for August and prep for September. Have applied for one of my old work pensions to be paid from October.

I also had a cosy afternoon watching TMC under a blanket on the sofa with a latte and fruit toast 😊

PearlsPearl · 30/08/2025 22:20

Watched the first half of the Thursday Murder Club tonight, really enjoying it so far! Very silly.

Spent a bloody fortune today 🙈 a whopping £390 at Costco. £160 was on new suitcases though which we really needed and they have a 10 year warranty (samsonite). We are fully stocked up on absolutely everything now thank god including DWs very expensive supplements. Except toilet roll cos they’d run out!

Travelfairy · 30/08/2025 22:39

Great thread. I need to be frugal as possible now after a massively extravagant summer 🙈

Mochi1fudge · 30/08/2025 23:10

Hi everyone.

Checking in. Today has been spendy in cost and calories (£47 meal out plus birthday chocolates consumed).

Tomorrow is a reset day - back to budgeting and calorie counting again!

needastrongoneagain · 31/08/2025 06:42

Thank you for the thread @MaryGreenhill, love the title.
Welcome new people and returning folk.
Will post fully later but all very quiet here in terms of money. We have spent a bit more on food, but that’s because we had guests last night so extra food and some wine.
Will post menu plan etc later. 😊

ps - posted this on the old thread too 🤣

WhitegreeNcandle · 31/08/2025 07:09

Hello all. I did quite well in August until the last week where I did my annual hemorrhaging of money on meals out, last minute school stuff and general life.

Having a sort it September as my diet has also gone out the window. I’m about a stone overweight as is the husband and kids so need to get back on the exercise and healthy food wagon.

We’re having two bathrooms renovated at the moment which I’m so excited about. The two showers haven’t worked since we moved into the house and they hadn’t been done up since the 90’s. Seeing the carpet being taken up was a moment of joy.

@JustStopItNora how old are your kids? My 12 year old has really enjoyed the Buddy Oliver cookbook and CBBC series. He will eat anything made by him out of that book but god forbid I put a courgette on his plate!

Today’s plan is to get ready for muy fresh start tomorrow clean our caravan this morning, DS is working, hopefully church and then lunch with friends. This afternoon we’re going to watch ET with the kids as they’ve enever seen it. We went to a music orchestra film thing last night and it prodded the memory!

TimeForSomething · 31/08/2025 07:14

Great thread - may I join? Recently took a pay cut for a secure long term job with a fab pension, but now getting used to said cut!

MaryGreenhill · 31/08/2025 07:42

Welcome @TimeForSomething🤗
Honestly in my opinion, you have done the right thing re changing your job for the pension boost . No one realises how quickly retirement creeps up on us until suddenly we are a few years away from it and start to panic . Especially as the DWP moving the goalposts re our pensions , so great job well done 😁👏

PearlsPearl · 31/08/2025 07:50

@WhitegreeNcandle ooh new bathrooms will be nice. Carpets in a bathroom is an abomination!

LadyLemoncake · 31/08/2025 07:59

Newbie here - what a great idea for a thread!

After some summer splurges I need to rein things in again, especially since it looks like my overtime hours are going to be cut.

TimeForSomething · 31/08/2025 08:02

Thanks so much @MaryGreenhill! To be honest I only really had the bigger smaller for about 9
months but had recut my cloth a little!

I have saved all my Xmas money up, so that’s sorted. In my autumn ‘silly season’ with three family birthdays in a month so that costs a fair bit. I do actually enjoy a bargain so looking forward to getting into that mindset again.

SockHop · 31/08/2025 08:50

Hello again.
Thank you for the new thread @MaryGreenhill
I’m pleased to be back after a not-too-disastrous-but-definitely-over-spending-at-times summer. We’ve had a good time though which is important and Ive transformed the office/box room into a happy and usable space which is good, so the spending hasn’t been wasted.
I’m not out of the woods yet though spending-wise as it’s DDs birthday tomorrow with several celebrations next week and we’ve also got a trip to Paris later this month. The main costs have all been paid already but obviously there’s a potential to overspend at the last minute on both. We’ve got some family and friends over tomorrow evening and I was going to get a takeout for convenience as I’m back to work the same day (teacher), but I decided that was ££££ and a bit insane so have planned a budget friendly home cooked menu instead. Looking forward to it as I love cooking (and don’t get to do as much of it any more). She’s also having 2 sets of friends over next weekend but all I have left to get for that is snacks really.
We are going up to london to the theatre this afternoon but I think it will be a LSD with my only spending being on tube fares.

I haven’t caught up with what I missed on the last thread yet, but I hope you have all been ok. I’m glad to be back and looking forward to catching up.

pistachiosanscream · 31/08/2025 09:02

Love the new thread title @MaryGreenhill and thank you for setting it up.

@Happierwithouthim i love that bread so very glad to get the recipe. Found a similar bread on sale in ballybunion and bought a couple of loaves for the freezer but now I’ll have my own supply.

@taytocrisps that sounds like a fab Saturday night. Wonder can I swig it as my Sunday night🤔

last couple of days have been a bit spendy. Thursday €70 to school for art supplies and €21 on groceries in Lidl.

friday €5 on groceries, I needed to break cash to have the right amount for the child minder. Then €24.50 in Penneys on items for small child’s birthday, €52 in beauty salon on my eyebrows waxed and removal of BIAB and a regular polish instead. Nails couldn’t take it anymore. Such a pity. €17 in Tesco on groceries €24.50 in the pharmacy for OTC stuff.

yesterday wasn’t bad. €85 in tiles and grout for the new stove and fireplace install. Also avoided going out for lunch and instead used our homegrown tomatoes to make bruschetta. Harvested the last of the veg from the garden beds though we may get longer out of the spinach. Still have apples that need to ripen and raspberries are still going strong.

today I will need petrol and also bread for small child’s lunches. I’ll see can we stick at that.

MaryGreenhill · 31/08/2025 09:23

Welcome back @SockHop good to see you and wishing your Dd a very happy birthday for tomorrow bless her 🥳 🎈 🎊
Thank you to everyone for the new thread thanks , glad you liked it but it's @needastrongoneagainbaby really 😁 👏
