DD was sick this morning and DS has threadworms. Aaah. DD can't wash her hand properly with her cast. DD will have a new cast on Monday, if she's not too sick over the weekend.

Off to wash all the bedding!

Oh you're in the trenches this weekend! Good luck with the deep cleaning, do you have any covid masks left? 😁

@needastrongoneagain well done on the business front! Must feel a relief.

I had to buy a few things for the dog business yesterday as directed to do so by the council man who is in charge of my license application. New dog first aid kit (£15), flea spray from the vet (£26- annoying as cheaper online, but had to prove it was vet approved), collars with my details on the tags (£21), clinnel wipes and disinfectant (£20). I will also need to buy a baby gate- essential as guest dogs have to be able to be kept separate from our dogs at times- looking at the retractable ones, and as we are both rubbish at DIY will need to pay our lovely handyman to come and put it up for us. Which is ok as we also have a broken toilet seat so two birds one stone. I also bought a template pack on Etsy (£7) for boarding forms templates and edited them on canva with a free trial which I'll cancel now so I don't forget!

I think the final cost will be the insurance, which I've been told not to buy until the license is granted, and some flyers (and money for DS and his friends to pay them for delivering them!).

Alwayslearning25 · 04/10/2025 09:54

Thanks, we're lucky DD 7yo, never got them (that we noticed anyway) as she is terrible at hand washing! DD looked so sad before she was sick, saying how hot she was, esspecaly under her cast. She still in bed, read a bit now just resting. And we had a busy weekend with her 2nd cousin, and one of her closest friends birthday party tomorrow. Bedding is in the wash for now at 60....do you think it's worth ironing ds clean underwear.

GameOfJones · 04/10/2025 10:55

@Alwayslearning25 oh no! We haven't dealt with threadworms but I live in fear of them 🤣. DD1 (aged 8) has caught headlice twice and that's been bad enough! I hope the children feel better soon.

£25 spent yesterday on lunch and a glass of wine with a friend. It was lovely and great to catch up.

Today was on track to be a NSD but I've just ordered a skirt off Vinted I've had my eye on because the seller reduced the price. Only £5 delivered so hopefully it'll fit ok.

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/10/2025 13:32

If you have time and inclination I would as the hot iron will kill any residual eggs

needastrongoneagain1 · 04/10/2025 15:52

Afternoon, Frugal Friends.

Ah @RumBananaSundae- how are you feeling today? The progress will be there, just slow. Keep going.

Thank you all re the business. Another life stage ahead, not quite how we expected but we are lucky to be in a position to step away from work at least. I’m really grateful for that.

@HP87that’s brilliant financial planning and discipline!

@Alwayslearning25 - aren’t children the gift that keeps on giving eh? ❤️

Exciting re the dog walking/boarding business @PearlsPearl. Thinking about it, it’s probably a good thing to separate yours and other folks dogs occasionally anyway. How will your dogs be with other dogs in the house?

£30 at Amazon on a small heater. That should be it for the weekend.

RumBananaSundae · 04/10/2025 18:59

Today’s spending has been £4 on chocolate covered raisins in Marks and Spencer. I’ve been using my card instead of cash since I’ve been back as it means I just have to put a card in my pocket and nit carry a purse but crikey it’s so much easier to spend money with plastic.

Thank you for your good wishes. I’m trying to be easy with myself today, rest and do non-stimulating things so am feeling a little better. Candles are lit and it’s sofa time. For some strange reason I have Foyles War on and I’m rather enjoying it. I was looking at rail passes and am wondering about one for Europe sometime next year. Think I might find the thought of planning a trip more exciting than the actual trip. There a few journeys I’d like to do in Switzerland but the places in France I like going to aren’t really train friendly so a little more thought is needed.

I’m sorry @Alwayslearning25 sounds like you’re in the trenches. Hoping for a speedy recovery.

Hope everyone is having a good a weekend as they can.

ChipshopPickledEgg · 04/10/2025 20:46

Approximately £10 spent on a birthday gift.
Just ordered myself some new pjs £30 for 3 pairs I plan on being in them as much as possible this winter!

Frugal25 · 04/10/2025 22:32

We have just got over threadworms. I did boil wash everything in the washing machine for two hours and then put on an extra long cycle in the tumble dryer to kill anything else....
Deeply disgusting though I hear you.
£80 on birthday presents for DMum. £18 on wine as I hosted tonight. I haven't hosted for years so I had a lovely time.

Still very windy here. Although washing dries in seconds so that was good!

Alwayslearning25 · 05/10/2025 06:28

We don't have a tumble dryer and with the stormy weather used the clothes airer ta dehumidifier. I concidered the launderette for the tumble dryers but couldn't be bothered. However, sheets aren't dry yet, and we need to do another load this morning so maybe today I will.

HP87 · 05/10/2025 08:33

Everyone sounds like they're on top of things which is lovely to read and very motivating.
A good day yesterday, spent £14 in boots in the end as ds2 was running low on dummies (he used to bite them during the day but we've stopped the day use now so hopefully I won't need to be buying them constantly anymore!) so those, calpol and a drink came to £14 with £5 added to my boots card with the boots recycling scheme.

I forgot I'd agreed to go halves on a new costume for Halloween with dd. She went with dh and lucked out because he has student discount so he took the discount off her part so we paid £8, she paid £4. The boys are happy with dressing up they've already got so phew on that one. Ds1 got a lovely ninja outfit from his school friend for his birthday in April and he's wants to wear that. Ds2 will wear whatever and follow the others to get sweets 😂😂.

Got some Halloween chocolates. Tesco didn't have an skittles so will have to wait or go somewhere else for those.

Got a win with amazon, dh got a £25 voucher for trying out a new app for a company (which he doesn't like but can't switch back 😂), Ds1 wants to do junk modeling next weekend (annoying as the recycling has gone from my huge shop last week!!), so I used the vouchers to get some glue gun sticks, also got some stocking gifts with it. And I ordered ds2 a Christmas present £40 but out of the Christmas pot.

Have a lovely day everyone. We're volunteering at the school this morning but should be back to wash all our muddy clothes (gardening stuff at the school) for the free energy session from octopus today, dh is happy with that timing ⚡😂.

needastrongoneagain1 · 05/10/2025 10:35

Mmmm chocolate covered raisins 😊

I’ve taken some cash out of the bank today as I pay our cleaners cash, but I have a pot for that.

Otherwise £4 on a Starbucks flat white. I rarely buy coffee out and about but I used their toilet the other day when I was out running and desperate for the loo and didn’t buy anything (they were very kind about it as it was early too), so I bought one out of appreciation. Which is ridiculous! Was lovely though.

I need Oat Milk too but that can wait until tomorrow, normal milk perhaps not. Will see.

ChipshopPickledEgg · 05/10/2025 11:12

£9 in Starbucks. My child actually drank her babychino without throwing it all over the table, so that's a win.
A walk around Sainsbury's.... I feel approximately 25 years older now.
Is it work yet? Can it be Monday morning PLEASE!?

MaryGreenhill · 05/10/2025 13:12

Spent about £15 in Sainsbury this morning. Some things went in the freezer. I bought a card for a friend yesterday (£10). It’s where you make little paper roses and you can write a message on each rose and make a bouquet with them.

Tears this morning with the rehab. Getting worried and frustrated. AI helpfully told me I was behind. That didn’t help. I hadn’t even noticed that Google brings up AI answers. I have emailed my therapist but I feel like a nuisance so I hope he will be OK with that. Next appointment is Thursday.

Have had a quiet day. Dreading work this week. Wondering how much of it I can ignore.

Nana Pumpkin Is awesome @MaryGreenhill .

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/10/2025 20:14

Rum step away from Google & AI. We are all different and rehab at our own pace.
over doing it will set you back and it will take longer. Stick to what the professionals say.

MaryGreenhill · 05/10/2025 21:45

That card sounds so lovely @RumBananaSundae
AHH thank you re My Mum 😊 Bless you over you feeling so frustrated .l am so so sorry you are feeling like this, big hug sweetheart 💐🤗

Frugal25 · 05/10/2025 21:59

Hello nana pumpkin 🙂 you look all snug.

You go at your own pace @RumBananaSundae , don't let anyone or anything tell you to do anything different. It won't help you or the outcome.

NSD today. I sneakily popped in birthday cards into the trolley when OH was paying.
Sold three items in vinted. Will post tomorrow.

Had a bad headache all day and burst a blood vessel in my eye, no idea how. Feel and look hideous. Hopefully a good night sleep will fix things.

Night night all

MaryGreenhill · 05/10/2025 22:47

@Frugal25 l don't want to scare you sweetheart but headaches and a burst blood vessel in the eye can be a symptom of hypertension.
Can you get your B/P checked out just to put my mind at rest please ❤️
Forgive me for being so overbearing 🤗
Well done on the Vinted sales 👏
Thank you re My Mum AHH she really enjoyed herself out feeding the Robins ❤️

A good day here so far, busy week so this will be my update for the week.
£3 on breakfast this morning, my friend had a voucher for free coffee so I only had to pay for my tea cake! Had a bra fitting (I've been wearing the same bra size since before DD was born and I am not that size anymore!) but DH had 20% of clothing at M&S and I had some left on my voucher and used my sparks credit card voucher points and still have £6 on my voucher so I did well there. As I was there I did do a food shop, I spent £50 from the groceries account but I still have lots left from last week so only needed fruit, bread and dinners so if I don't need to shop again until next Monday that will be amazing for that account.
I have started to worry about the month and it's only 6th! Although I have put £200 aside for half term at the end of the month so if I can keep that I can relax a bit over half term.
Nieces birthday in early Nov, however I am meeting my friends locally for lunch this Saturday so that will be a lot cheaper - we had planned on going into a city but now I won't have the train travel cost so that money I had set aide has covered nieces birthday present.
DD needs a disposable camera for her trip coming up - I will use my boots points.
So even though I have started to get concerned I am working out solutions to the costs and not just chucking it on the credit card!
The weeks should be ok, DH still has a little pot to take the kids out the next two Saturdays if he needs it. He might be ok with the hours I've worked out I will be out. It is hard to be at home / go out with no costs with all three on your own due to the age gap between DD and the boys.

Now that we are coming to the end of what we need to save for ds2 bedroom I have worked out the cost in more detail of everything left for the decorating - £3,000. Our new finances start in Jan so we will bulk out that account as much as possible between now and Christmas then save slowly for the rest against prioritising the mortgage. After that it will be the carpets!

Have a lovely week everyone and I will check in again next week :)

ChipshopPickledEgg · 06/10/2025 18:21

£14 on loads of moma porridge from Sainsbury's I brought some yesterday and it's definitely my new fad will save on lunch and dinners at work whilst being healthy and comforting.
£37 started Christmas shopping a doll for my daughter and a bed set for mum half price in Tesco.
£15 or so on some other bits and bobs of food
