Just had an email to say ours is going up to £64 from the end of May.
Family of 4 - wouldn’t say particular high usage family. Live in the West Midlands.

Just wanting to compare really.

One adult, South East, 3 bed house, one bathroom, £11 per month, metered.

Since we switched to a meter, they are currently charging us £78 a month (presumably they will take 12 monthly payments) instead of the £144 x 10 monthly payments they would have been charging us this year if we had not had the meter installed in March.

They won't read the meter to adjust our monthly payment until we've had it for 6 months. So they may put it up or down after the first 6 monthly reading.

We are three adults at home all day. I don't think we would be heavy water users but we are reading the meter monthly and are using an average of around 2.5 cubic metres of water per week.

We are being careful and I currently save most of our "slightly grey" rinsing water from the washing up (no dishwasher) for watering the garden.

I may get water butts but we've had virtually no rain for weeks.

I’ve just checked our usage and we average about 2.7 cubic metres a week.

Based on that, our direct is going up to £64 so hopefully you’ll build up some credit.
Although as mentioned, Wessex water do seem to be very expensive.

Thanks for these details.

I don't know whether what Wessex charge for metered water (plus the standing charge and the charge for surface water component) is the same for every Wessex customer or is also based on the house's Council Tax band (we are Band C).

Same with my daughter!
Although, my son is a little younger and still a shower dodger!
Look forward to the bill once he hits teenage years and stops being a smelly little sod!

My annual bill is just shy of £700 with Severn Trent. Outrageous!

I've requested a water meter. I was assured by ST that having a meter will decrease my bill (only two people living in the property) and I have 12 months to change my mind.

that's for sewage charges as well?
mine is £401 a year for water and £465 for wastewater i.e. £867 per year total. Based on the rateable value of a 2 bed flat, then 25% off for single occupancy so £25 a month for water only just for me. I'd love a water meter but it's not a priority up here (although it might become one given we've got water scarcity warnings go out so early in the year!)

Seamond · 15/05/2025 16:10

£50 a month, Anglian water

LoafofSellotape · 15/05/2025 16:13

Direct debit is £51. We use a lot as we have a big garden , washing machine and lots of showers. I really tried to reduce it and managed to knock a fiver off so stopped trying so hard.

MerylSqueak · 15/05/2025 16:13

I was totally shocked this week to find Dwr Crmru have put up our bill ( 2 adults 2 teens) by 58% from £70 to £120.

I'll be complaining.

FrogFairy · 15/05/2025 16:14

Welsh water £61 per month for single adult household.

I would love to have a water meter but have reasons why it might be complicated (relating to joining a new water main) I am considering asking if I could negotiate a lower payment.

That’s outrageous for single adult household.

If unmetered, (I’m not just interested) can you negotiate a lower price or is it purely based on home value/council tax band?

2 adults. £30 a month for a water meter.

Started using a water meter in the pandemic.

FrogFairy · 15/05/2025 16:23

I agree, it is daylight robbery.

They want everyone in our street to join the new water main, but due to the layout of my property I would need to get a 12 meter long 75cm deep trench dug to the edge of my garden. This would involve breaking up and lifting a large area of concrete and paving slabs. Then making good afterwards. I dread to think what it would cost.

I have been meaning to contact them but other life stuff got in the way. If I have any luck I will report back.

£120 for last year, Northumbria Water on social tariff.

TennesseeStella · 15/05/2025 14:55

£0 - Scotland

It's not £0. It's collected as part of Council Tax. Ours is £867/year for water and wastewater charge.

iheartcatz · 15/05/2025 18:06

£66 pm. Me and 2 teens. It's just jumped from £39 to £66. I don't use much water and I'm really water conscious but my DS has long showers daily. Drives me nuts. Watch it drop when he's at uni.

Teens and twenty somethings with showers, nightmare!!! We have it too.

Hasn’t been so bad the last 3 years with the eldest at Uni and then the youngest going in September.

I guess we shouldn’t complain, at least they are clean.

Rainbow1901 · 15/05/2025 19:18

United Utilities just gone up 32% to £49.60 per month for just the two of us! But we do have a pond which needs topping up once in a blue moon.

IttttttssssME · 15/05/2025 19:39

Good old Thames Water £76 per month for a 2 bed flat in a tower block that’s high in the sky to touch the moon.
mused to pay £7 a week with the rent and the boom we got hit

annaspanner18 · 15/05/2025 19:43

£52/ month. North west (united utilities). 2 adults 2 teens, and though DP showers at the gym through the week the washing machine goes on most days. We’re on a meter.
