Just had an email to say ours is going up to £64 from the end of May.
Family of 4 - wouldn’t say particular high usage family. Live in the West Midlands.

Just wanting to compare really.

£21pm 2 adults on a water meter.

Mine is £105 a month. yep. That’s not a typo.
it was £75 a month and when I received my bill (metered) I was horrified. Although we are probably a high use household, I thought an increase of £30 a month was a mistake.
When I phoned the water company, they did some calculations and said that even if I used exactly the same amount of water as I had in the previous six months due to increases in charges £105 a month would just about cover it.

£102 per month here, for the two of us!

Needlesnah · 15/05/2025 14:52

It’s just gone up to £104pm Thames water. Two years ago it was £63pm. Myself and 3 teens/ya (although the eldest is at uni) in what is technically a 3 bedroom terrace. We can’t use a meter.

Is Severn Trent your supplier?

Wow yes was going to ask the same !

Severn Trent here, was £26 about 2 1/2 years ago!

£66/month though I pay annually. That’s a lot higher than last year which was less than £50, considering my DD has started uni. We are metered and in London. I only do about three loads of laundry a week and it’s just me taking showers. I do water the garden beds but not the lawn and it’s a small garden.

I didn’t know that about Scotland. Is it included in council tax or something then?

Ours went up to £105 a month for a band D property with united utilities!!! (1267 a year). We're in process of switching to a water meter but they have managed to mess that up so far.

thisfilmisboring123 · 15/05/2025 15:05

Jeez.

Can’t believe some of these over £100 pcm!

Although makes me feel a little better about mine, sorry!

We’re on a meter but no paddling pools, hot tubs or the likes. Showers instead of baths- constantly telling the kids to keep shower time down. Probably a load of washing most days but only done on short cycles.

Not sure we could cut down on usage (to a point where there would be a noticeable difference anyway)

I pay twice a year in Feb and August and its around £375 each time, so about £750, thats before the price increase.

Yep - mine is £97 a month. We're also in Kent and on a meter.

Mikart · 15/05/2025 15:11

£43 for 2 people. Yorkshire water on a meter

Ecrire · 15/05/2025 15:13

Gone from 75 a month to 128 a month in the south east
insqne

whirlyhead · 15/05/2025 15:13

€30-€100 a month depending on the time of year - I have a (small) swimming pool and a big garden so in summer they need a fair amount of water between them.

I live in Spain - water meter. Sadly I do not have a well like so many people here do (but then you are really dependent on the rain)

MyUmberSeal · 15/05/2025 15:14

Pay £295 twice a year, in May and November, so would work out at £48 a month. Not on a meter.

Blarn · 15/05/2025 15:16

£90 something a month with Severn Trent. I keep thinking about a meter but there are 4 of us with 2 bedrooms so I'm not sure we will save. I wouldn't say we use a lot though.

Only free if you aren't connected to the public water supply or waste water network in Scotland. Otherwise it's paid as part of the council tax bill (should be itemised) and the charge varies depending on council tax band, from £400.26 to £1200.78 per year.

It's nationwide. I'm Wessex Water and they just doubled it. I called them and the bullshit line is that the water companies need to do extensive upgrade works.

I don't believe any of this nonsense. He took it right back to the original half rate after I complained.

We are Wessex Water, too, and I think they are one of the most expensive in the country.

Last year's water was 10 payments of £115.89 a month (unmetered).

This year's was going to be 10 payments of £144 a month (unmetered) so we had a meter installed in March.

AuraBora · 15/05/2025 15:18

Recent bill from South Eastern water was an eye-whopping £860 annual compared to last year's £603. In previous years went up about £50 a year. Family of 4, we do use a lot of water with kids baths, washing up, washing bur nothing out of the ordinary. I doubt we'd benefit from a meter though.
It's shit!

Sadcafe · 15/05/2025 15:20

Ours is fairly low in comparison to many, 4 bed, 2 bathrooms plus downstairs loo, £36 a month with some independent water company. Bizarrely though, we’ve just moved from a bigger property served by Northumbrian water and we only paid £31 there, even with the price rise it’s costing more now and we only moved about a mile

Same here - Wessex Water and now £129 per month for 10 months unmetered

£57.77 a month with United Utilities unmetered. Three bed house, band E. Solo homeowner and am considering a meter.

Since we switched to a meter, they are currently charging us £78 a month (presumably they will take 12 monthly payments) instead of the £144 x 10 monthly payments they would have been charging us this year if we had not had the meter installed in March.

They won't read the meter to adjust our monthly payment until we've had it for 6 months. So they may put it up or down after the first 6 monthly reading.

We are three adults at home all day. I don't think we would be heavy water users but we are reading the meter monthly and are using an average of around 2.5 cubic metres of water per week.

We are being careful and I currently save most of our "slightly grey" rinsing water from the washing up (no dishwasher) for watering the garden.

I may get water butts but we've had virtually no rain for weeks.
