Excluding rent or mortgage how much do you pay for the basics of
Gas/elec/water/ctax
/TV license etc etc

OP posts:
OldTinHat · 14/02/2024 13:02

TV licence is the same cost for everyone.

CTax £34
Water £8
Gas and electric £60 combined

Live alone, 3 bed house, on disability benefits hence reduced water and ctax.

OldTinHat · 14/02/2024 13:02

Bishopsgirl · 14/02/2024 13:08

@OldTinHat Sorry for poking my nose in but I notice you say you are on disability benefits, does that include PIP? If so, please double check with your council that you have to pay any council tax at all, not even just a reduced rate. I've just had a terrible time with our local council who have tried to charge us Council tax as, because my dh is in receipt of PIP, he shouldn't have to pay any council tax at all. The council have, very apologetically, finally realised they were in the wrong, but I've since heard of it happening to other people.

Energy £180
water £40
CT £200
wifi and telly, a fortune as we have Sky, a licence and all the streamers but that's a choice rather than necessity.

murasaki · 14/02/2024 13:13

Without knowing size of property and number of residents, the figures are pretty meaningless.

WhyWhyY · 14/02/2024 13:22

Thank you all so far. I’m looking to rent a 2/3 bedroom property. Three occupants part time or just me full time dependant on where the children would like to live.

I know it’s a bit subjective but I’m budgeting £500 per month which it seems like is sensible from
your replies!

That's kind of you @Bishopsgirl. Yes, I claim PIP and ESA. The council are aware and have reduced my rate to £34. Where I lived previously, the local authority didn't charge me any CT and that was before I received PIP. This lot are money grabbing!
