Refugees

Am I wrong to feel the people of this country are using the "Cost of Living" narrative to justify not helping migrants and refugees who seek refuge for themselves? Neglecting our British values, passing the buck to Rwanda and European countries. The attitude towards those fleeing war zones and risking everything to come to this country on harsh waters is outrageous!

I was in the corner shop today and over heard a couple of women making digs about foreigners. To make unjustified claims such as "it makes us unsafe", "we don't have jobs" or my personal favourite - "they don't integrate into society." What on earth has happened to our British values? To make others feel welcome and to help others in need of help!

Every human has a right to safety, affordable housing, food, water, education and a healthcare system. Those are all things our wonderful country can provide and quite frankly has a moral obligation to provide for those coming from other parts of the world that aren't as fortunate as us.

But, but, BUT - how are YOU actually helping? You still haven't said why the people in your house can't share rooms.

I have no problem with Iranians.

I never said you did, but you should have a problem with their government.

Goateen · 04/02/2024 10:01

Goodness, third time. Helping people is so odd now? Keep repeating.

You don't even take the time to give intelligent or thoughtful responses to a topic you're meant to be passionate about.

You just ask questions and pretend to be obtuse.

Some of laws, absolutely.

The same people who pay for the warm homes most citizens live in now in this country. Laws are always passed that people aren’t happy with and we all get on just fine after! Such as Brexit, etc.

My home is cold. I can't afford to heat it beyond 15°C.

Maybe we could come round yours for the weekend? That's 2 DC , 2 dogs (well behaved- most of the time) and myself...
And while you are planning to host us, I am vegetarian but DC love their meat!

I don’t expect people to share rooms.

I think you are trolling but you’re good so I can’t resist responding. You said our wonderful country, you also said that I’m not afraid…. like most British women so you consider yourself to be British.

Yet you also make sweeping, insulting, generalisations about British women. I quoted you above saying “most” British women are afraid of refugees. What is your evidence for this? You also say Never known more entitlement and whining like you hear from British women. Again what is your evidence for this? And at this point do you consider yourself to be a British woman?

Maybe you don’t think of yourself as British because you say I come from a Middle Eastern country. Does your Middle Eastern country provide universal healthcare, housing and education for all of its citizens and refugees? How much have you petitioned that government?

You told a pp You know nothing about the culturewhen she expressed concerns about the differences in attitudes between Britain and a proportion of refugees, but you also said Those cultures work very differently, the man is the provider and therefore supports the family. Are women from those cultures free to gain employment and financial independence if they want to? The concern is that women from “those cultures” don’t have freedom of employment and financial independence and the attitudes of men from “those cultures” is harmful to British society.

What’s wrong with forming a community? Superficially nothing but the research in Sweden illustrates that a lack of interaction is problematic.

four bedrooms and would not have the space for them
we have space, plenty I don’t have the space Which is it?

My solution is equal rights. Houses, like you live in Do we all have an equal right to a four bedroom end house like you have? The vast majority of us are squeezed into far less than you have.

That roof is for my children, what’s) your logic? Extrapolate that Britain is for British people

A house is different from a country, Indian has a billion! China has a billion! We have less than 70 million and we could help others
Population density of China is 152/km and of the UK is 280/km we don’t have that much space left unless we want to lose farmland and reduce our food security, or to lose wildlife habitats to catastrophic levels.

Well that’s awful. I’m saying a lot needs to be reformed. There’s no excuse for you not being able to hear your home above 15 degrees.

You didn't ansswer my question. Still waiting for your evidence that Saudi Arabia and Dubai accept refugees. And why wouldn't people want to go there.? These are seriously rich countries! That is apparently what you are basing your whole theory on. Why don't you think they go there?

Grannysmithsfrisbee · 04/02/2024 10:07

Well, stop posting here and start arranging it then !

One answer is to reduce the population or at least have less people accessing the same (limited) resources.

So how about my weekend? Where abouts are you placed?

As I said, it’s about equal rights and freedoms. If people want to come to England then nothing should stop them.

I have a solution - invite @Sinuhe round for a couple of days. Maybe she could sleep on the sofa? Get her all cosy, feed her warm meals and help her out? That would be nice.

England is not a sovereign state.
So "England" (not the UK, not Saudi or anywhere else) should have open borders?.

Your weekend? The U.K has less than 70 million citizens. Everyone should have warm homes, this is a rich nation. I’m in London.

I believe in open borders. I loved the idea of the free travel but that’s over. U.K shooting itself in the foot with Brexit.

Well why didn't your brother want to go there?. It's very wealthy. Is there something wrong with Saudi Arabia and Dubai? Still waiting on that info about them accepting refugees btw. You seem to have forgotten that ( because it doesn't exist).

For a couple of days why wouldn’t I? But I know that’s not a genuine question. You’re trying to paint me as hypocritical.

Refuges seem to love the idea of the western countries, I can’t change that. They should have the right to go anywhere. Are you saying SA has never taken refugees?

Iheartmysmart · 04/02/2024 10:13

A four bedroom house in London! Well that could be sold right away, buy a bigger place somewhere cheaper and take in some refugees.

Oh sorry, you can’t. Because in your little world the ‘someone has to do something’ applies to everyone but you.
