Car insurance Range Rover

I've got a 2018 Evoque and my insurance this year has tripled. The insurer said they're not insuring them any more due to them being the number one most stolen car. Anyone else heard about this and who did you find to insure you most competitively?

Might be worth giving Adrian Flux a call? I only say as they specialise in 'odd' cars. (I use them for my modified vehicle, on which they're very competitive!).
They're a broker, though, so do look over their recomendations carefully!
Might not be the thing for a range rover, but thought i'd mention.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/10/2023 09:45

Is there an online Range Rover enthusiasts group that can help? Most cars have them and if this is a perennial problem, there's bound to be a lot of discussion and recommendations.

lazysundaymorningcoffee · 04/10/2023 09:48

Oh god. I'm due to renew my insurance on my 2017 evoque next month so I'm watching this thread closely! Have you gone through the comparison sites that Martin Lewis recommends on the money saving expert website?

StripesandSpaniels · 04/10/2023 11:12

We are renewing our multi car policy this month and have a 22 reg Range Rover sport too. I shopped around using Money saving expert and money supermarket but it was cheaper to stay with our existing insurer who is Liverpool Victoria. Ours has almost trebled too - I was told they’re the most stolen cars now. Luckily the insurance on the other car is only up by £70 for the year.

maypoll · 04/10/2023 11:21

According to my DS there is some new method that means they can be stolen incredibly easily - you may as well leave them unlocked with the keys in the car. Apparently many insurers in London are refusing to insure them.

HongKongGarden · 04/10/2023 11:22

Ours cost £2,000 last year. It lives in a secure underground garage and we’ve decades of insurance cover with no claims.

DH insures four other far more expensive cars for a total of £600.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/10/2023 11:23

Sounds like RR drivers need to go back to using Crooklocks that were commonly used years ago before reliable electronic security measures were commonplace.

LemonWaterSugar · 04/10/2023 11:31

I don't have a Range Rover but our car insurance tripled this year despite no claims or changes. When I spoke to our insurer they said prices have increased across the industry. I shopped around and found one cheaper but still a 50% increase on previous year.

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 04/10/2023 11:51

There’s a plug in gadget you can buy on eBay that enables land rovers and transits to be stolen.

the advice above about crooklocks is a good one, as is getting a tracker fitted.

try the national farmers union for insurance.

headcheffer · 04/10/2023 11:54

We had this issue. Call NFU for some advice (they insure a lot of land rovers!!) but basically they informally advised us to get a special immobiliser fitted. This reduced the insurance but we will still need to get rid of the car at some point in the next year as it's still so much more than last year to insure. Land Rover Jaguar need to sort this issue ASAP.

justanotherparrot · 04/10/2023 14:35

Thanks everyone, I've found an insurer who will insure for just double of what I was paying last year.
Beware all RR owners, this is an ongoing problem.

LV will no longer insure my RR sport. Friend has just refused to accept vehicle on order as couldn’t get insurance.

Whatever this is, JLR are at least saying they’re onto it and they’re recalling for a related software update. Still dreading my insurance renewal in the new year though.

CalmConfident · 04/10/2023 14:53

DH RR sport insurance doubled for same reason :( Shopped around but no cheaper anywhere.

We have an immobiliser, tracker on car and faraday cage key box at home but still was doubled

My husband works with car insurers and he says the story about them refusing to insure range rovers in London is rubbish. Everyone's car insurance has gone up massively this year. Try Direct Line or Churchill.

justanotherparrot · 04/10/2023 15:19

Direct line won't insure RR.

Mine didn't go up. But then I drive a 15 yr old Skoda 🤣

Just get a cheaper to buy/tax/run/insure car if the running costs are too high. Nobody living in London or any other major city needs a Range Rover, surely?

It most certainly is true.

Yes all insurance has gone up but if you have a RR, especially a black one, they are hot! They get stolen to be used in crimes or sent out of the country.

I think it is area-dependent to some degree, but my sister has been told by Direct Line that they will no longer insure RRs in her area of Berkshire.

Not by that much though, we have 2 non-range rovers at home and the insurance only went up by around £50 each.

This has been an ongoing issue for around 5 years.
It seems only now it’s affecting people taking delivery are they bothering

panelbottle · 04/10/2023 16:19

In my part of London Range Rovers are stolen on a ridiculous level, there must be something that makes them easy to steal.

panelbottle · 04/10/2023 16:21

Other more expensive cars are left alone. It would put me off buying one to be honest

HarrietStyles · 04/10/2023 16:22

I had a Range Rover Sport until recently. Our insurer wrote to us to say that they now have a blanket policy of not insuring any Range Rovers anymore! As they are being stolen at an alarming rate, they just won’t insure them anymore at all! We shopped around, looked at the insurance quotes and then sold the car pronto! We replaced it with an Audi that doesn’t have keyless entry and the insurance is back at an acceptable level.

Asleepwhilstmeditating · 04/10/2023 16:24

Our neighbours was stolen despite a crook lock. They sawed through the steering column apparently. Three cars in our street were stolen that night. All keyless entry SUVs. Two Volvos and a RR.
