Have you turned off your heating now?

I know some people haven’t really had it on all winter - terrible position to find yourself in and I’m truly sorry people have had to do this.

But if you have had it on, have you now turned it off or if you’ve reduced it,how many hours per day now?

It’s late March and ours is till on for 1 hr in morning and about 4 hrs in evening. Obviously it’s not firing up so much as it gets to temp (17 degrees) faster now.

Just wondered when people who’ve already turned it off did so and what those still using it are doing…and when you’d think it will be off fully. Thanks.

Yes! I did it yesterday, in fact. We are on the south coast, so fortunate to have a reasonably termperate climate. We don't need the heating on now. I checked the temperature forecast for the upcoming couple of weeks and it'll be fine.

Decafflatteplease · 28/03/2023 16:05

Weve bit had it on for about a week now but I caved at lunch and put it on as was sat under a duvet at my desk shivering!

We try and have it off from April to October.

ISpyCobraKai · 28/03/2023 16:06

I go by temperature, not time of year.

DanceMonster · 28/03/2023 16:07

My thermostat has been set at 18 since October. It doesn’t often click in now though.

TheFlis12345 · 28/03/2023 16:08

Still on for an hour in the morning (temps have been as low as -2 overnight this week). Less in the evenings though and we haven’t lit the fire much in the last fortnight.

Timeforachangeisitnot · 28/03/2023 16:09

We had snow over the weekend, but yesterday was warm enough to go out without a coat.Today is back to cold grey and wet. So no, it’s staying on . It is on a thermostat so I just trust it to work as it should.

TeddyBeans · 28/03/2023 16:10

Ours is only scheduled to come on for an hour in the morning now, we took away the other scheduled times a couple of weeks ago. It won't be long before we won't need the morning one either but with a month old baby I like the temperature to be stable in our flat - it holds heat very well. Also south coast!

CherryCokeFanatic · 28/03/2023 16:10

1 hour morning 1 hour evening has been what it’s set to for the last 6 months or so. Occasional ‘boost’ extra hour on the worst of the winter days or just relying on heated throw and underblanket. Thermostat set to around 17. It hasn’t come on much lately. Probably will turn it off fully in the coming weeks - forecast looks pretty mild but some cold days here and there so will just let it turn on if it goes below the thermostat.

bloodywhitecat · 28/03/2023 16:11

I don't turn mine off, the thermostat is usually set to 19° when we're home and awake, set down to about 9° overnight and 15° when we're out of the house. In the summer it is set to 16° during waking hours. The house is old and it struggles to hold the heat in winter months and in the summer it sits quite comfortably at 16 - 18°.

watcherintherye · 28/03/2023 16:12

We try and have it off from April to October.

Sorry, I know its juvenile of me!

CambsAlways · 28/03/2023 16:14

Same as bloodywhitecat

Greensleevevssnotnose · 28/03/2023 16:15

God no, it's on constant today. I'm perished

Nap1983 · 28/03/2023 16:15

Nah mines still on. It’s still cold. Was -3 here yesterday morning

Flojo1979 · 28/03/2023 16:15

No, it’s too cold yet!

MarshaBradyo · 28/03/2023 16:15

Not yet

It’s on in the mornings and I just put it on now

Lolly49 · 28/03/2023 16:17

No it’s freezing

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/03/2023 16:17

Very much still on, it's brass monkeys today! If it's a nice day we turn it off but we don't turn it off completely until it's 20 degrees consistently as the thermostat won't allow us to.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 28/03/2023 16:19

Not yet. I'll be turning it off when we go away at Easter and I don't plan to turn it on again when we get home - unless it's absolutely freezing!

FluffyHamster · 28/03/2023 16:20

Ours only comes on in the main rooms we use during the day (so not bedrooms etc) when it falls below 18.5/19c. We control it (room by room) with an app.
It isn't on as much as it was.

EyesOnThePies · 28/03/2023 16:25

I was about to turn it off for the year, but I need to have a shower soon and the temperature today has caused me to crack. I have set the thermostat for 17.5 and the boiler is on.

popandchoc · 28/03/2023 16:56

I've shortened the evening time so did come on around 5.30 but changed to 6.30 .

NewBootsAndRanty · 28/03/2023 16:58

It was -1° here the other day..
Still set at 21/18 here until it stops clicking on.

Hubblebubble · 28/03/2023 17:06

Mine is on. I've just had a big refund and my bill is being decreased as of next month. I'd gone a bit overboard only having the heating on when DC was home, wearing a fake oodie and using hot water bottle when WFH, doing before work swims and using their hot showers instead of mine. Cooking with the air fryer and slow cooker.

finalwhistle · 28/03/2023 17:08

Have i heck, it's freezing today!

BooksAndHooks · 28/03/2023 17:09

Ours was set to 14/15 to stop it coming on unless really needed so barely been on. It’s now reaching 17 in the coldest part of the house so isn’t coming on.
