Have you turned off your heating now?

I know some people haven’t really had it on all winter - terrible position to find yourself in and I’m truly sorry people have had to do this.

But if you have had it on, have you now turned it off or if you’ve reduced it,how many hours per day now?

It’s late March and ours is till on for 1 hr in morning and about 4 hrs in evening. Obviously it’s not firing up so much as it gets to temp (17 degrees) faster now.

Just wondered when people who’ve already turned it off did so and what those still using it are doing…and when you’d think it will be off fully. Thanks.

I’ve just put it on, SO COLD

Anycolouryoulike · 28/03/2023 17:10

It's cold today so the heating is still on here.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 28/03/2023 17:11

When I get home I'm putting it on - it's a miserable day here.

Also I've been running it as needed over the winter and I'm still massively in credit so I just don't see the need to be cold.

Thislittlekitten · 28/03/2023 17:13

We switched ours off yesterday. North East Scotland so not the warmest but our bills are just so high.

Lucky we have had a few warmish days. But it’s cardies, jumpers and blankets now if we are cold!

waterlego · 28/03/2023 17:15

Ours is set to 14 so it’s not coming on much now. 🥶

RaininSummer · 28/03/2023 17:16

Just put in for a couple of hours as it's only 15 degrees and my joint ache. Plus it's been pouring all day so the washing isn't dry.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/03/2023 17:19

I'd turned it to one hour in the morning and 3 in the evening until today, when I turned it back on at about 11am and it will stay on til 7. Really cold today, and no sun to warm the house. 🥶🥶

KnittedCardi · 28/03/2023 17:19

If it's sunny it hasn't been coming on, as we have large South facing windows. But today it is dark, wet, and we flicked it in earlier, as couldn't wait for when it comes on in the evening. It's only 9c outside now, a comfy 19 inside.

SandLResources · 28/03/2023 17:20

I'm one that never had it on. I live on my own and work long hours so just use a heated blanket the rest of the time. The only time I'm cold is between getting out of the shower and dressing. In credit on my gas/leccy.

motherofkevinnotperry · 28/03/2023 17:20

You're joking it 5oc, raining and still getting frosts. I'm in the cold dark north.

Viviennemary · 28/03/2023 17:21

No. I'm freezing today. Turned it up.

PuppyMonkey · 28/03/2023 17:32

I’ve turned the settings down and it comes on later in the evening, but not completely off yet. Weather forecast keeps going on about it being “mild” but I’m sitting here in a cardigan with freezing feet on a dark rainy afternoon and I would not describe this weather as mild.

MushMonster · 28/03/2023 17:32

Mine has been off for ages now! But thehouse is around 16C 17C now, on its own.
It gets a bit chilly on the north facing rooms, but nothing a jumper cannot sort.

JamSandle · 28/03/2023 17:33

It's really cold where I am still.

RoddyStJames · 28/03/2023 17:35

Still on.
Ours is only on around 16/17 degrees, with the occasional blast at 20, all winter anyway but we had solid ice on the windscreen yesterday and it was hail stones earlier so still pretty cold.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 28/03/2023 17:37

CH is on timings so don't switch it off off. The last few days haven't really needed it but it's on again tonight.

bellinisurge · 28/03/2023 17:39

Nope. On for about an hour in the morning. On for a couple of hours at night.

stayathomer · 28/03/2023 17:39

Had it off for a week then woke yesterday to frost and ice and a temperature of -2 which quickly heated up to be fair but turned heat on last night after hearing so much coughing and sniffling in work. Sure April is generally when it all falls apart anyway, isn’t it? We’ve generally had snow in April more than November!!

MarchMadness23 · 28/03/2023 18:56

it's a difficult one to answer, I haven't had it on a timer this year (as I usually have, that's in part a change in the hours I'm home which are very variable and being aware of not having it on when it doesn't need to be)_

so, it's definitely not on every day, but it's on when I want it to be (not very often now). As a pp poster said, I'm only a bit chilly after my shower & before being dressed and that's because it feels too much of a waste to have it on a couple of hours to heat up just for that.

so sorry, crap answer really!

Riapia · 28/03/2023 19:16

I have a thermostat.
No need to be worried about outside temperature.

Never needed to adjust it since it was installed.

Same here, think it’s been set to 18 for about 2 years!

Disco2023 · 28/03/2023 19:27

Still on briefly under two hours a day most of last month as the sun was high enough to heat the back rooms again

But it’s cold and damp/dull atm so it’s been on three hours ish last couple of days it’s bloody chilly! We have low temps of 17.5 ish and not constant though.

Weve been careful with heating due to the high cost but have never had it on constant anyway I find it too stuffy. However I won’t be freezing either.

SickickFan · 28/03/2023 19:33

Not yet, but will be turning it off between now and Friday. Our combined gas and electric bills have been £250 every month since October so I want this to be the last month of that! I wouldn’t mind but that’s been only keeping the house at 14.5C overnight (to prevent damp) and boosting it up to 16 during the day so our house isn’t what I would call warm! 🫣

mrshenny · 28/03/2023 19:44

Ours is set to 18 during the day and 16 overnight. Due a baby any day so it will stay that way. Some days it comes on for a bit and some days it doesn't.

Lilybetsey · 28/03/2023 19:46

I turned it off two weeks ago , but I am bloody freezing ...
