What temp is your house right now?

And do you have the heating on?

I thought it was a bit chilly this morning/last night but moving around today it was ok (hoovering etc)
We are sitting on the couch tonight with blankets, and ds just commented it seems to be warmer to night than last night. Checked the thermostat and we are sitting at 15.5 degrees. But we are ok tbh.

How warm is your house tonight?

(No heating yet and I think we are doing ok feeling cold wise iyswim? None of the kids have complained yet! Although we have a box of blankets by the couch. Have put up an extra set of double lines curtains on the main "cold" windows, put in extra foam on windows that were a bit leaky and tend to go to bed earlyish)

The kitchen thermometer says 19.8 degrees, that's the warmest room though as it has a working radiator. I'm sat next to the electric heater in the lounge which is set to come on at 19ish degrees and its not blowing out hot air so must be 19 here too. Upstairs is colder as the heaters there only go on at night at the moment so they're only getting the heat that rises up from the hallway radiators. Heating the house feels like a full time job right now as we're heating the boiler with (free) wood to save on oil and I (or OH, he's heating in the mornings this week as he is on late shifts) have to add a couple of bits of wood every 20 minutes to keep the fire going so I am ruled by my phone timer.

18 degrees, no heating. I love the irony of the comment about respiratory illness from cooler house - but uses a wood burner - so much worse to be filling your house with air pollution

TheTeddyBears · 17/11/2022 11:43

19 degrees just now, heating just been turned off and has been on since 7am! That's prob cost me a fiver! Our thermostat is at 20 but think it would take another hour or more to get it there!

Indoctro · 17/11/2022 11:54

24 degrees we have a log burner that keeps whole of downstairs warm

Filleto · 17/11/2022 11:58

Ours is 17.5 in most rooms, 16.5 in the coldest room. We haven’t used the heating yet. I’m wearing a vest, long sleeved top and jumper and am ok with socks and slippers on but I have put a big cardy over the top a few times and am wearing a dressing gown and blanket when I’m sitting down in the evenings.

Can you post a link to that comparison study please, cold houses which will have high humidity and condensation dampness and log burners and the comparative risks?

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 17/11/2022 12:05

Ours is on 21 all the time, heatings been in for a couple of months, I have a very big, old house with single glazed windows and I hate being cold, plus have 8 children so don’t want them to be cold either.

CoffeandTiaMaria · 17/11/2022 12:23

19.7° at the moment and the thermostat is set at 18° so the heating kicks in if necessary. It’s also on a timer so that only happens between 6.30am and 9.30am, 5pm and 8.30pm. If really cold I will override it but we have a wood burner so can light that- it belts out heat 😊
We don’t have heating overnight, it’s set at 12° I think.

If your wood burner is an approved model, fitted correctly and you burn dry seasoned wood then there’s very little air pollution inside the house 🙄 or out.
Scare-mongering and completely unnecessary.

JudithHarper · 17/11/2022 12:32

20°C here, heating not on so far.

Dontaskdontget · 17/11/2022 12:33

16 degrees, mostly because I’ve just been airing out the house to prevent mould growth. Been scrubbing with housework so quite warm at the mo, I do now have a blanket on my feet but not bothering with heating yet. Will put on around 6pm I expect.

I’m always amused by these ‘do you have your heating on’ chats because they never mention the factor that makes the biggest difference to body temperature: fat. When I was 8 stone I was cold all the time! Now I’m 11 stone I am rarely chilly cos you know layer of fat.

HelpMeGetThrough · 17/11/2022 12:42

19 in the lounge, as the thermostat is in there. Not convinced upstairs is.

Radiators definitely need bleeding and the system topping up, so that's a job for the weekend.

samstownsunset · 17/11/2022 13:04

19 all the time. I'd brave it being colder but small kids and potty training.

Without the heating on the air feels damp.

Lampedsomeoiks · 17/11/2022 13:08

15.5 degrees in the living room.

13 degrees upstairs.

No heating on yet.

OhmygodDont · 17/11/2022 13:11

No idea my boiler and thermostat have farted and refusing to talk to each other 😅 it claims 17.5 but it feels warmer than that.

Favouritefruits · 17/11/2022 13:59

15.4 🥶 I am wearing my clothes including a vest, two dressing gowns and a hot water bottle. My heating won’t go on until the children get home from school, then I’ll put it on for an hour.

Merryweather80 · 17/11/2022 14:54

@Matchingcollarandcuffs That’s exactly what happened to me. Huge doses of steroids for years which caused osteoporosis in my hips, pelvis and lower spine. Interestingly- only found on scans after my ex dislocated three discs in the thoracic lumbar spine. (Bastard). I have ME and fibromyalgia too. Moving to keep warm is tricky. Hence needing a wheelchair or crutches on my better days.

What caught my eye on the news today pensioners are to receive an extra £300. cost of living allowance while PIP/DLA claimants only get £150. Some pensioner are far more sprightly and physically well than I am, yet are given a bigger allowance. It doesn’t seem fair. Yet another kick in the teeth.

Merryweather80 · 17/11/2022 14:59

@AnnieSnap I think heating our longe/ diner area when it’s really cold is what we will have to do. Even just to dry the washing. Ironing while wet works well. Straight on to a hanger afterwards.
This really shouldn’t happen in a developed country.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 17/11/2022 16:13

16.3 in the living room- just lit the wood burner.
13 upstairs.
9.5 outside
Not fired up the heating yet, but will probably do so at the weekend.

willingtolearn · 17/11/2022 16:18

15.4C, heating set to come on shortly, up to 17C

AgoKneeArent · 17/11/2022 16:49

17C in my living room and quite comfortable with layered clothing and blankets for the evening. Hoping not to turn the CH on this side of December.

Vates · 17/11/2022 16:51

14.4 at the moment, currently wearing a tshirt but have had to put a jumper on a couple of times today to warm up. I am sleeping a lot better now that it is cooler and always have my windows open.

Nadal · 17/11/2022 16:54

20 here. No heating yet

Derbee · 17/11/2022 16:57

Thermostat set to 19°. Currently radiators are off as thermostat says 19.1° but it feels a bit cold to me! We put the fire on in the evenings, and only heat the one room.

thewolfandthesheep · 17/11/2022 16:58

20 degrees no heating on.
