Anyone signed up for this? Payments for shifting your energy use away from peak times/within a given timeslot each day.

I'm off to pick up a too good to go bag at 6, so that works out well here.
Not expecting anything more than last time's 6p, rewards wise.
@glasshole if you don't mind being paid in Amazon vouchers, you could sign up for Loop's "turn down and save" scheme - the reward rate is higher than Octopus, and you can use it regardless of who your supplier is

My sister was telling me today that she got £2.25 in rewards for a saving session one day last week between 5-6 pm ( I think). She just booked the dinner in the slow cooker and turned it off at 4.50. She turned the fridge freezer off as well as it was only for an hour. Lit a few candles and her and her boys watched a movie undera blanket so for two hours she was only using the tv. No heating or electricity apart from that. I don't know if it's worth it for £2.25 but she said that's two loads in the tumble dryer. So her son puked everywhere and prompyly used the savings 😬.

I think it's a good idea. My electricity is around £4-4.50 a day so a £2 saving every day would be awesome. Shame it's only occasional and that eon next don't do anything like this.

I'm Eon next and seem.to be on exactly the same days as this thread for octopus. I have a 5.30-6.30 stint tomorrow. Not sure we will save much for this slot as I can't be there to try to turn everything off at the start of the hour. If it was a weekend I'm sure we would save lots more!

Just go online, click on savings sessions and it'll let you opt in. I haven't had a heads up yet either.

There was nothing online other than the countdown for me but I got an email a little later on.

Angelicapickles1 · 22/11/2022 16:54

I got £1.25 from last time. Just had our led bulbs on ...got the kids to play in their playroom.

Don't think I will save as much tonight as we don't normally use much 5:30 - 6:30 as tea is done and its before bathtime etc

NewBootsAndRanty · 22/11/2022 17:41

All The Things are switched off, pillar candles are go!

I'm in. Bolognese cooked, pasta can go on after 6:30. Light upstairs and router on so DS can do his homework. DH still at work. I think everything is off that can be!

froginawell · 22/11/2022 17:49

Arse! Work overran and I'm 20 mins late

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 22/11/2022 18:08

Rather cosy here . Rainbows was cancelled due to so many people being ill so we had dinner at 5. Everythings turned off apart from the router, fish pump, fridge and freezer. Fire is lit so we are warm and candles are giving us plenty of light. We are all snuggled on the sofa doing a variety of things on tablets (homework, tiktok, MN and netflix)

We have done exactly the same as last time so will be interesting to see if we get the same result.

HandbagsnGladrags · 22/11/2022 18:10

Candles and fire here too. Dinner on, on gas hob. Cosy.

tribpot · 22/11/2022 18:14

Nice and cosy here too. Camping lamps providing mood lighting, freezer in garage off this time as we were better prepared. I have plugged the car in and it occurred to me to double check it hadn't forgotten its charging schedule as it sometimes does - that really would have buggered up the saving session. But it's fine. Cooked dinner on the gas hob so all good there.

Flapjackquack · 22/11/2022 18:17

Camping lamps here too, had soup for dinner heated in microwave, have a toddler and only got home at 5.30 from work/nursery so unavoidable really. Everything else off.

ilovebagpuss · 22/11/2022 18:17

Round 2 actually signed up this time and nit in the dark for fun 😂fire lit and everything off. Bit of a late dinner as I was not home in time to get things organised before the session and DH didn't plan anything. DD 1 has eaten but DD 2 is waiting for the microwave M&S curry!
I'm not doing it again if I only save 6p hope it's a few quid.

The saving sessions are industry wide, not supplier dependant.

NewBootsAndRanty · 22/11/2022 18:26

Yep, the times are set by the National Grid, I think.

Early dinner here, chicken stew at 5. Everything off, log burner lit, listening to an audiobook on DS'yoto player (charged running on battery). Luckily we did PJs and teeth before it started as he is now asleep laying on me. We'll do this every evening!

tribpot · 22/11/2022 18:38

All over and now switching back on. I do hope the next session is longer. The grid is currently at 50% fossil fuel - not suggesting that is all due to our hard work but it's a good percentage at peak time.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 22/11/2022 18:41

Im quite enjoying it, i would be happy for it to last a bit longer

tribpot · 22/11/2022 18:45

Well you may get your wish @smilingthroughgrittedteeth - I've just been on Twitter and saw 'National Grid' was trending. It turns out the National Grid issued a warning that there might be blackouts this evening as demand is exceeding supply! They then cancelled the warning but we are running at a deficit and having to import from abroad.

froginawell · 22/11/2022 18:47

Be interesting to see if we get any points as didn't notice until 5:50!

But we quite enjoyed our fish and chips by candle light...

Im all for this form of voluntary blackout but i dont wish for enforced blackouts. Im very aware we are ok, we have a fire for heat and are pretty well set up for basic cooking without electricity, i wouldnt wish blackouts on anyone not able to keep warm or prepared/able to afford camping stoves etc

tribpot · 22/11/2022 18:58

Yes, one of my motivations for doing the Saving Sessions is to be ready to reduce demand to avoid a blackout. It's all very well doing it when you can be prepared (and in our case, keep the router on) but for a lot of people it would be very difficult.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 22/11/2022 19:06

I've looked at my savings on the website from last time and it's just got a weird 'snoozing' circle, my savings are zero, what does that mean?! We turned everything off, can't believe we didn't save anything....

Eyelashesoffire · 22/11/2022 19:09

Ignore my last message, it says I didn't opt in, so weird, sure I got a message saying I had...

tribpot · 22/11/2022 19:23

@tasmaniandevilchaser this is what mine looks like currently. If you've still got the three little 'waiting' dots for the session before, I would contact Octopus as it suggests something's gone wrong with them calculating your savings for the 15th. if you've got 'waiting' dots for today, that's normal, it'll be a couple of days before we all get our calculations for this time.

Im of the opinion that if those of us who can cope do it voluntarily then hopefully we can avoid the enforced blackouts and make life easier for those who arent as lucky. And yes i am all for keeping the router on as it definitely makes it easier to cope especially for DS who is Autistic and relies heavily on the internet.
