How often do you wash your sheets/duvet cover ?

This isn’t a ‘I wear my bra for 30 minutes then change it’ boast thread.
I wash mine every week, but it doesn’t feel dirty at all, plus it’s just me sleeping in it. With the cost of ever going up would it be wrong to change it every 2 weeks ?

Every 3-4 weeks. I shower every day and wear underwear in bed so don't feel it can get that dirty. Maybe more frequently in the summer if it's hot.

Brokendaughter · 28/08/2022 15:13

I had always done it weekly, but I've now changed to hanging the duvets in their covers over the bannister in the hall (can't hang it out the window for risk of rain or I'd do that), leaving the sheets uncovered to air each day & only washing them every other week.

They seem fine & I've halved that washing.

Joystir59 · 28/08/2022 16:03

Once a month. I sleep alone and always shower before bed. I also only change my clothes when they are dirty- apart from knickers which are changed daily.

feistyoneyouare · 28/08/2022 16:06

I do mine fortnightly and that works fine for me.

BMW6 · 28/08/2022 16:26

We do bedding and towels once a month.

Aired every day though.

Nsky62 · 28/08/2022 16:31

Weekly

cushioncovers · 28/08/2022 16:43

Sometimes weekly sometimes two weeks. Depends. Any longer than 2 weeks and it starts to smell.

middleofthelittle · 28/08/2022 16:55

Weekly, sometimes fortnightly in winter but mostly weekly.
We air the bed everyday though and don't pull the duvet straight back which I think makes a difference and we sleep in PJs.

Naked sleepers should be more often IMO

KangarooKenny · 28/08/2022 17:04

I always pull the duvet back to air until I get in it again, usually have a shower/bath at night - although I’m trying to cut it down a bit - and I always sleep in knickers. Seems wrong to go without them somehow !

Usually every 3 or 4 days because my dog is up here a lot and sheds terribly, I vacuum the bed daily. I'm trying to stop him being up though so I can extend the bedding to a week or so and then use a shorter wash cycle

onlythreenow · 28/08/2022 20:37

I hate it when there's a top sheet it's all tangly

I've never found that. However, they say you learn something new every day, and people not using a top sheet is my new thing for today. I had never heard of such a thing. I'm not in the UK, but sheets here are generally sold in sets - one fitted, one flat and often with pillowcases. It seems to me to be a lot of extra work, taking duvet covers off all the time to wash and then putting them back on.

KangarooKenny · 28/08/2022 20:43

I’ve never used a top sheet since we moved from eiderdowns to duvets.
Thinking about it. I quite liked the weight of an eiderdown. And there was always a candlewick bedspread to make it look nice .

Yes - but what happens if you don't change your sheets weekly/bimonthly?

kimchifox · 29/08/2022 09:20

If it's a double bed just swap sides, anyway one persons 2 weeks worth of sweat is the same as two people's one week's worth. So yeah, just do it every fortnight. I change mine when it's starting to feel less than fresh, I don't time it. Same with DCs beds. Teenagers are either not in their beds as out at sleepovers or they've spilled something all over it - so I wash when it's dirty not according to the calendar.

MyPenIsHuge · 29/08/2022 09:35

Duvet rarely, I use a flat sheet between me and the duvet so that gets washed but rarely the duvet cover itself.

Pillowcase is fortnightly. I use the bottom pillow and top pillow alternate weeks.

Meltingsocks · 29/08/2022 09:42

Monthly is more than enough, they're just sheets 😂

MrsLeBouef · 29/08/2022 10:03

We use sheets and a duvet so the duvet only gets changed every 2 months or so. Sheets are changed between 1 and 2 weeks.

Knittingnanny2 · 29/08/2022 10:46

One double bed here only now as all children left home and doing their own bed linen schedules!
Bottom sheet and pillowcases once a week,
duvet once a fortnight,
mattress protector once a month,
hoover mattress once every 2 months
Shower or bath before bed and husband is a bit asthmatic so I devised a regular schedule to try and control the nightly coughing. Seems to work. I also air the bed every day by folding back the duvet.
I use white vinegar not fabric conditioner to help with the asthma as I think he might have been allergic to the scent.
I could leave it longer I think but love the feeling of a new fresh bottom sheet.
When I had 4 beds to change I did 2 each week so probably similar as now.
The bottom sheet and 2 pillowcases just go in with a normal light coloured wash and air dry or line dry quickly so doesn’t seem too much of a chore.
My late mother will be turning in her grave at the thought of 2 weeks between washing the top layers. And the lack of ironing. She was a martyr to the twin tub daily! Probably didn’t use much electricity though as a boil wash of Terry nappies took 14 minutes. When my children were very young I also only had a twin tub for the first few years, so bed linen was not washed quite so often. Everyone survived.
Re the poster who said about the boy student- I doubt if my 3 boys changed theirs very regularly at uni either, they hated changing theirs at home so probably rebelled when they lived out!

When I was at uni back in the 70’s we were issued weekly with one clean pillowcase and one flat sheet. We were told to move top sheet to bottom and the fresh sheet became the new top sheet.

KangarooKenny · 29/08/2022 11:18

We used to do top sheet to bottom in the hospital, if the sheet was clean.

Always changes bed on a Friday so clean for weekend

I also work nights so lovely to go to bed after end of working and having clean sheets

Obv I’m not there 3/5 nights

but have a hairy hot blooded /sweating farting hubby in bed so not sure would leave for longer ……..

I know some change every 2/4w but I don’t think I can do that 🙀

Thomasina79 · 01/09/2022 21:04

I wash mine more than that, but only because I sleep better in freshly washed bedding. I have no moral judgements to make on people who change them less often! I do hate physically changing them though.

Chakraleaf · 01/09/2022 21:20

HMSSophia · 28/08/2022 10:00

What actually happens if you leave it for say a month or more? Do you get ill or die? Honest question. What's "manky" about it??

Nothing 😄

User148563 · 01/09/2022 21:30

I have a similar one of those as well and have to wash mine weekly 😀

In OPs case I'm sure every two weeks would be fine, I would do mine every two weeks if it was just me.

StarDolphins · 01/09/2022 21:35

I change mine every week because my dog sleeps with me!

if I was on my own, 2 weekly would be fine!

Depends what you wear to bed. If you put clean pjs on every night you could go two weeks. If you sleep naked or have lots of fun then they need cleaning sooner.
