How often do you wash your sheets/duvet cover ?

This isn’t a ‘I wear my bra for 30 minutes then change it’ boast thread.
I wash mine every week, but it doesn’t feel dirty at all, plus it’s just me sleeping in it. With the cost of ever going up would it be wrong to change it every 2 weeks ?

Every two or three weeks unless it's hot

thebear1 · 28/08/2022 08:49

3 beds to strip and wash, one is a high sleeper which I hate changing, so it's once a fortnight here. I do air them everyday.

No, every two weeks is fine in my book, unless it needs changing beforehand of course. I'm washing lightly soiled things on a 30 min wash too, and using a washing line as much as I can this summer

This. Fortnightly, even every three weeks if we have had a lot on and not been possible to get chores like this done.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 28/08/2022 08:52

Two weeks is fine

Antarcticant · 28/08/2022 08:52

I've got lots of bedding so I don't wash it as soon as I strip it - it stays in the laundry basket as 'low priority' until it's convenient for it to make up a load with more important laundry.

MinervaTerrathorn · 28/08/2022 08:53

We change beds monthly, air them every day and open windows every day until the heating is on, then weekend mornings in winter.

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/08/2022 08:53

2 weeks is fine and normal

once a week in hot weather perhaps

That's definitely fine, you could always spray with fabreeze or similar to give it a fresh up.

I do mine every 1-2 weeks but I sweat quite a lot at night and have 2 grubby toddlers.

Hells bells, please don’t spray them with febreeze, that really is manky.

Yabado · 28/08/2022 09:03

I wash the bed sheets & pillows every week
duvet cover every other week
I have about 3-4 sets though

TwoCoffeesPlease · 28/08/2022 09:05

Once a week but I don’t think fortnightly is unreasonable. I wouldn’t leave it any longer than that mind you. Perhaps every 10 days is ideal.

glamourousindierockandroll · 28/08/2022 09:05

That seems fine, particularly if you're wearing pyjamas. Sleeping with fewer clothes in the heat would get them dirtier

Spanielsarepainless · 28/08/2022 09:06

Every week. And pillowcases and table napkins. All personal towels weekly, kitchen and tea towels twice a week. Dishcloth gets changed more often.

onlythreenow · 28/08/2022 09:08

Every two weeks in summer, but I stretch it out a bit more for winter. That's for sheets - the duvet cover gets washed only when I think it needs to be!

TenoringBehind · 28/08/2022 09:12

Aim to do it weekly but sometimes it’s more like fortnightly.

onlythreenow · 28/08/2022 09:13

Several posts have mentioned having a top sheet under the duvet cover - I thought that was the usual thing to do! I've never in my whole life just slept under the duvet.

starfishmummy · 28/08/2022 09:13

Annually. Usually on boxing day so I remember.

I hate it when there's a top sheet it's all tangly

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 28/08/2022 09:17

Every week, but often I leave it a few more days and it feels fine

ImBoilingJackie · 28/08/2022 09:23

I rotate the bedding and use a top sheet so the duvet cover is never in contact with skin. Top sheet gets changed to bottom sheet, and a fresh top sheet and pillowcases go on every 7-10 days, depending on how they look and feel.
I don't wash bedding separately, just wait until I have a full load to put on. That goes on at 40, eco setting, and everything gets line-dried. I don't know what I'll do when prices go up. Perhaps hand wash small items to reduce washing machine use.

mydogisthebest · 28/08/2022 09:24

Every week but me and DH both sleep naked so I feel they need washing that often

caringcarer · 28/08/2022 09:24

I have always washed sheets and duvet covers every week but thinking of moving to every 10 days. I'm going to try it over winter.

ThisisCollie2022 · 28/08/2022 09:27

I was wondering this too OP. I think I might try 2 weeks. But change pillowcases weekly. Currently do both weekly.

The duvet sheet is bigger than me so hanging it on the line is THE biggest piss take and if its been raining I'll probably get in a muddle trying to hang it up while keeping it off the muddy / wet lawn. 🤣

Apparently folding the duvet back on itself for the day helps the sunlight kill some bacteria and keeps it fresh for a little longer

Catsinthesuitcaseagain · 28/08/2022 09:28

Nightly when I'm in the midst of perimenopausal night sweats
Weekly at other times. Will be fortnightly going forward as my night sweats seem to have calmed down.
Just another extra expense of being female Hmm.

Spinzy · 28/08/2022 09:28

Now that my husband is in charge of laundry, everybody gets their bedding washed weekly and the protectors are washed monthly. I was a bit more lazy. I don't know how a suggestion that we do them a bit less frequently for financial purposes would go down. To be honest, we shower in the morning and my husband is very sweaty. He will have a quick wash if he needs to but I think they'd get pretty nasty as he sweats a lot in the night. My youngest child is also pretty sweaty. And I do love getting into a bed with fresh sheets.

I slept with a guy during Freshers week when I was on my period. Managed to get blood all over his sheets. He didn't know what to do with them so he stuffed them in the wardrobe until he went back home for his mum to wash! That was a bit embarrassing.

Chewbecca · 28/08/2022 09:34

DH does ours weekly. He is a bit sweaty.

Please don't spray febreeze on your bed!
