How often do you wash your sheets/duvet cover ?

This isn’t a ‘I wear my bra for 30 minutes then change it’ boast thread.
I wash mine every week, but it doesn’t feel dirty at all, plus it’s just me sleeping in it. With the cost of ever going up would it be wrong to change it every 2 weeks ?

2 weeks is totally fine

Keroppi · 28/08/2022 08:10

I usually change the pillowcases and bottom sheet more frequently than the actual duvet cover

I like the idea of having a thin sheet in between the duvet and you but whenever I have this on holidays etc it makes me feel stressed out lol but I do think it would be more "clean" as you wouldnt have to wash the duvet covers as much. But then changing the duvet sheets is my arm workout so I'd be missing out 😁

JamMakingWannaBe · 28/08/2022 08:10

I think it depends if you wear PJs or sleep naked. If you sleep naked I'd wash the bedding more frequently.

2 weeks here with pillow cases weekly.

elm26 · 28/08/2022 08:12

Weekly when it's been hot, every 10-14 days in autumn and winter.

Agree with checking manual regarding fast wash, ours uses more than our 90 min one.

bowchicawowwow · 28/08/2022 08:14

Fortnightly however sometimes change the fitted sheet in between.

Zippedydoo123 · 28/08/2022 08:15

I have been changing mine monthly for years. I shower daily and only sleep one side of the king size bed. I suppose I could move to the other side if I was concerned. But it seems enough to me. Especially as in the summer months I sleep under a loose cotton sheet on top. That gets washed every two weeks though. I change ds's sheets monthly foo. Life really is far too short to do endless washing! If it starts to feel dirty though I have been known to wash bedding every three weeks.

Caspianberg · 28/08/2022 08:15

Every 2 weeks usually too. I just haven’t time either to do more often. Rotate so child bedding one week and ours the next.
We aren’t very sweaty people, wear pjs and in summer would normally have a quick shower before bed anyway.
If it needs changing more often for any reason then we just do it.

Shorter washes aren't necessarily cheaper. They use much more agitation than longer washes, so require more power. You need to check your individual washing machine's instruction book, to find out which is the cheapest wash.

Yes, one of my eco washes takes nearly 3 hours but is more energy efficient than one of the quicker ones we used to use.

CourtneeLuv · 28/08/2022 08:20

Leave them 2-3 weeks but fold the duvet down to the foot of the bed each morning so the bed can air. Also move the pillows away from the headboard and turn them over so they can air too.

Thighdentitycrisis · 28/08/2022 08:22

I sleep alone and fortnightly for
sheets and weekly for pillow cases works for me

MoodyTwo · 28/08/2022 08:25

Every two weeks in summer, every 4 weeks in winter as I just can't get them dry with the amount of normal wash about (sorry not sorry)

Mybeautifulfriend22 · 28/08/2022 08:26

Seven to ten days ish. Sometimes it’s creeped up little longer. Depending on work shifts. We aren’t sweaty people and shower daily so they aren’t smelly or dirty when I remove them.

I think people who do a lot of washing (bedding changes everyday/ few days, wearing clothes only once and so on) may be reconsidering in light of the cost of energy now.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 28/08/2022 08:27

I was at uni with a boy (with an active sex life) who never washed his sheets. It was a 6 year course. Take that, Frothers 😀

Yeah we air the bed like this rather than make it up. Also have a mattress protector that’s washable with the bedding and I hoover the mattress too.

AlwaysLatte · 28/08/2022 08:29

How about changing the sheets and pillowcases weekly then the duvet cover fortnightly?

Passthecake30 · 28/08/2022 08:29

I wash mine weekly as otherwise my nose gets really itchy (dust mite allergy). I might try to stretch it out and see if washing the pillowcase gives me a couple more days. I wash the 12&14 year olds fortnightly.

Cheeselog · 28/08/2022 08:34

We used to do it every week but are lazy so now do it every fortnight or every 10 days or so if it’s been hot.

greenygreens · 28/08/2022 08:34

I do mine every Friday.

Snowiscold · 28/08/2022 08:35

i wash them more often in summer than winter, because it’s easier to dry them. Probably every two weeks in summer, less in winter. I have added a top sheet under the duvet, so in future plan just to wash the actual sheets and not the duvet cover -use the duvet as a quilt. It’ll be easier to wash and dry a sheet and less effort to make up the bed.

HairyToity · 28/08/2022 08:39

Three weeks here. I never have timenfor weekly bedding change.

Passthecake30 · 28/08/2022 08:39

@Snowiscold how often would you wash the duvet cover if you also have a sheet? Could be an option for me, also will help with the hot flushes and constant on/offs of the duvet!

dmask · 28/08/2022 08:42

Weekly, but I like the fresh sheet feel!

Campervangirl · 28/08/2022 08:43

In the summer I wash them weekly but in the winter it's 2 weekly (hate using the tumble dryer) we usually shower before bed.
My OH works nights, so he'll come home and fall into bed and sometimes he smells of oil so I'll wash them more often depending on what project he's on.
I only have 2 sets of bedding, one on and one in the wash

I’m not sure. I’ll see how it goes. I wish I’d done it ages ago. It seems obvious now.

Chakraleaf · 28/08/2022 08:46

2 weeks is absolutely fine, especially in winter.
