Such a pretty puzzle!

I ordered a new one which is called “a night at the movies” and has 101 films hidden in is apparently. Love brain teasers like this.

Have started a savings challenge. £1 for every week of the year. £1 for week 1 £2 week two etc. except I’m doing it backwards. So £52 next week £51 the week after. Have set up all payments automatically from account to savings. Took a while. But done.

Happy New Year.

Start the other way is to just put a persons name in bold by putting an * either side without a space.at the beginning and end of what you want in bold.

em I bet it took ages to set up.

Today I am baking - I may have forgotten that shops are closed today & we have no bread. Dinner is going to be what ever is at the back of the freezer.

Mmm home made bread.
Think we are going for a beach or forest walk. Probably forest which will cost us the fuel to get there as we are members

Wolfcub · 01/01/2022 09:11

Happy new year frugal friends. I feel like death this morning but it's entirely self inflicted

I’m ok but we have mock tails so no alcohol. Just tired.

Hello! I have resolved to come back and get a handle on finances. Things are better since I started my job (3 month probation ends in 10 days, I am absolutely loving it!) but still really need to be grown up and sensible!

I have missed you lot!

Unescorted · 01/01/2022 10:56

Great to see you sing
Wolf I have a self inflicted fug this morning too.
I have yet to start the bread ... I suspect it is going to be a high yeast one...

Happy New Year everyone. Hope it's a good year for us all despite the prevalence of Covid. Tired this morning. I stayed up until around 2 a.m. watching the New Year shows and then a highlights of Glastonbury programme. DCats didn't get the memo about having a lie in this morning (I gave them an extra feed at 2 a.m.) and were kicking up a fuss outside my bedroom door around 8 this morning. I got up and fed them and did a bit of my jigsaw. Going to prep dinner shortly and then maybe go back to bed for a nap. DD warned me that I'm not to fall asleep in the middle of the Harry Potter anniversary programme.

Happy New Year all!

Good to see you Sing, pleased you are loving your job.

Had a long walk today which I think is just what we all needed after the Christmas indulgence!

Nsd.

Gensola · 01/01/2022 16:27

wolf I also have a terrible hangover 😵‍💫

em I love puzzles too, but I like the escape room ones where you solve clues. DH got me one for Christmas which we are taking on holiday.

We are due to fly out tomorrow for our break. Praying all goes smoothly!!

Taytocrisps · 01/01/2022 16:56

I spent a few € on whipped cream to go with my Christmas pudding which I'm going to tuck into later and some pringles for DD. Also spent €18.63 for a bauble storage box. I've a lot of assorted baubles. It means I can throw out the old cardboard boxes which are dented and misshapen at this stage and store everything in one container. Also means I can put it all off until the 5th when my box arrives

The house is feeling very cluttered so I'll be glad to have my sitting room back to normal. Christmas really is a lot of work, isn't it? I was patting myself on the back for all the effort I put in before Christmas but I still need to take down my tree and decorations and do a post-Christmas clear out of my fridge etc. I still haven't unpacked all my presents and disposed of the packaging - I just brought everything home in a gift bag. I had family staying over Christmas so I didn't get a chance to sort it then. And of course, I lost a day due to the booster side effects. I've earmarked tomorrow for doing a good clear out and hoover downstairs. I'm doing lamb for dinner today so tomorrow I'll use up leftovers in a curry. The rest of it will go in the freezer.

Taytocrisps · 01/01/2022 16:57

Have a lovely holiday Gen. Hope you don't have any hassles. Is it a city break or a sun holiday?

Wolfcub · 01/01/2022 17:07

Have a lovely holiday Gen

I've ticked some boxes off my bingo card and moved the amounts into my penny saver. Been for a few walks. Had a rapid clean round to make things look slightly better. Looked at some recipes in food magazines to add to the master lists, my free period of Amazon unlimited ends shortly so there will be no more magazines after that so I'm making the most of it.

Ordered a throw for the sofa bed in the office. Now the pup is 8 months old and has (touch wood) kicked any bad behaviours Im moving back to the office for work from Tuesday. Should be better for my back, less snacking and better for mentally separating work from life. Might be a bit trickier beating him to the post before he eats it though!

lifelongfrugaleer · 01/01/2022 17:15

Try Libby app wolf if you have a library card. Lots of free mags and i get lots of food ones
Happy holiday gen
Written a few lists here
Doggo been upchucking since walk. Clearly ditch and river water disagrees with him

ememem84 · 01/01/2022 17:53

Happy new year!

DH got into an argument with dsis today re taking the dc out of school. He said it was hypothetical because they’re not in school yet.

He wants us to leave here on 1 dec this year and return early feb so we can go to nz for “our” sabbatical (aka his sabbatical).

He seems to forget that a) I need to book the time off of work and that will more than likely be either 2 years annual leave used up in one go or mostly unpaid leave. B) ds will be in school.

Dsis is a teacher. And she gave the hypothetical answer of 10 days is the max of either authorised or unauthorised leave for a kid before they lose their school place and we’d have to petition for it to be given back. DH not happy with this. Because “the dc would be going to see family”. Which dsis understands. But guidelines say anymore than 10 days gets referred to education sept and they aren’t going to give a shiny shite what the time off is for.

She asked DH if he was prepared to homeschool the kids if the school place was not given back. As a worst case. Apparently he’s not. And thinks it’s unfair I have said he needs to be. Because it’s his family.

SingToTheSky · 01/01/2022 17:55

Seems reasonable to me em (your view I mean!)

Gensola DH got me an escape room advent calendar! You only get told the first door, then the clue answer tells you where the next day’s door is :o

Gensola · 01/01/2022 17:55

@ememem84 here’s the one I have and have solved. They’re single use so you have to be prepared to cut the cards up or draw on the maps etc. It’s all paper/card so can go into the recycling. I also did the Sinister Mansion one and thought it was amazing too. There’s a whole series of them by Zatu games. www.board-game.co.uk/product/exit-the-abandoned-cabin/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAlMCOBhCZARIsANLid6aXG81OOT14I-yY94A-dPfpwYgEeq90H3V3QojpGii8IfG5BQJsiOkaAhHlEALw_wcB
