I really hope he is gone for good alfie Flowers

I’m getting the back to work fear too, back on 4th too. And I’ve got to do a load of e-learning too by then 😣

I loved the responses on here to FIL gf em. What a cheeky one!! Has DH managed to do anything useful this week yet? I really feel for you.

Lovemaltesers · 31/12/2021 09:31

In frugal news, our big tv in our bedroom went pop (over ten years old, and stopped being our main tv as it struggled to turn on from standby). It went to the tip, and we got an unused tv (was given to us 2nd hand) from the loft down to replace it. It’s about a quarter of the size of the old one 😂 . Resisting the sales to buy a shiny new bigger one!

northender · 31/12/2021 10:03

Keep resisting love!!
Oh wolf that's tough. Hope Ds has a 2022 transformation or is at least a bit easier to live with.
Gen forgot to say, that's great of your mum to pay for your accommodation, what a relief, no decision to make.
Alfie glad Dd is holding firm
Loving your de cluttering work unescorted I did my kitchen recently and it feels so much better. I also reorganised where things are stored which is much better than before. Our kitchen is galley style with loads of storage space but not a huge amount of people space, so no more than 2 at a time. Crucial to have things well organised
Going to start moving things with the mortgage today and get on to Virgin. Dd and I have PCR tests and I have a GP call.

lifelongfrugaleer · 31/12/2021 10:43

Great news Alfie. Hope dd holds firm.
Hugs wolf, hope ds isn’t so bad and you are feeling better too
Yeah decluttering. Love it.
Kids jabby but used greggs account credit for their treat

lifelongfrugaleer · 31/12/2021 10:45

Hope for -ve pCR north and successful gp.
Going to buy nye treats will use nectar points though

Wolfcub · 31/12/2021 10:51

I've decided I'm going to give the penny savings challenge a go this year. I'm going to treat it a bit like bingo and colour in whatever square I manage to save on a day

Unescorted · 31/12/2021 10:55

Love resist away.

Wolf that is a heart in mouth moment!

Our kitchen has loads of storage - which means people getting rid of things that they don't want leave presents for me. I am too polite to ask them to put them in the bin. Which frankly is where they should have been put in the first instance - it save them the bother of taking it to mine. Anyway - tin cupboard, utensil drawers ( I am very proud of the baking drawer and cooking drawer differentiation), saucepan drawers all done. Just the cutlery, tea towels, packaging drawers and food cupboards to go. Next doors brown bin is full again... it was only emptied this morning.

What is the penny saving challenge?

OP posts:
Wolfcub · 31/12/2021 10:59

Unescorted it's where you save an amount equivalent to what day it is in the year each day. You should end up with £667 (ish) if you do it for the whole year. So on day 1 you save 1p on day 365 you save £3.65. Which is why doing it backwards or randomly is a good option so that all the £3 plus amounts aren't in December. Will ping you a bingo sheet

lifelongfrugaleer · 31/12/2021 11:18

I’m going to dunhelm for a new washable tablecloth. This could be ££££ . Going for bees this time

lifelongfrugaleer · 31/12/2021 11:18

I’m going to do that bingo

ememem84 · 31/12/2021 11:52

He has.

He’s currently in the kitchen cooking a Vietnamese poached chicken salad for lunch. We have friends coming round. Then for dinner I’m making a charcuterie board with baked Camembert. Mmm.

floatinginmyhomie · 31/12/2021 12:22

Hi sorry I fell off we all came down with a cold just after Christmas so haven’t been on. We’re okay now and definitely not covid which is brill. We’ve been cooped in so only spends were £30 on shop.
I hope everyone feeling poorly is on the mend soon. I keep putting off getting my booster which I know is bad but I got so ill with both jabs and I’m not sure how I’ll cope being poorly with 2 little ones. I know I need to get it done though. I need a good shake to get some sense into me.
mrs that jigsaw is beautiful I bet the yellow balloon was quite hard tho!
alfie I hope DD stays away for good he sounds awful. Well done to her for getting out💐
tayto well done on the budgeting. We need to do ours soon!
start welcome lovely 👋🏻
em love that jigsaw it’s beautiful
gen brilliant news about your trip I hope you enjoy it!
Today’s plans are to do some sort of budgeting. It’s feeling quite like spring so we might go for a walk first.

lifelongfrugaleer · 31/12/2021 14:31

£37 dunhelm, same sainsburys but only £9 cash as used nectar points

AdoraBell · 31/12/2021 16:23

£13 odd spent in Tesco,£200 odd in Wicks. That’s for wardrobes, rails etc. That’s instead of £2K per wardrobe that the builders priced for fitting the wardrobes.

Happy New Year 🥳 everyone .
I’ll catch up later.

lifelongfrugaleer · 31/12/2021 16:45

Went to m&S for some mint after Aldi had none and there were bugger all yellow label bargains. V disappointing. Also looked at the dine in but as a t totalled there was no alcohol free option. Poor show imo

Mrsmadevans · 31/12/2021 18:08

Happy New Year to everyone Smile
North thank you re Dd2 Smile & the takeaway was delicious! Grin
Hope you are feeling better very soon and that your Dd is ok Flowers You have a bit on your plate at the moment bless you l hope you get a good deal re the mortgage Smile

AdoraBell · 31/12/2021 18:10

alfie well done to DD for telling you about the abuse. I know it’s hard to hear but it will help her. Having been in an abusive relationship I know how hard it to be honest with yourself rather than coming up with excuses. Really hope she stands her ground now, and gets on with Uni work, that should keep her occupied. Also, bloody well done to DSis dealing with him 👍

em well done standing your ground too 👍 years ago DH told me that if anything happened to , now late, MIL then FIL would have to move in with us because “he can’t look after himself”. There was nothing wrong him, no disabilities or health issues. DH was not impressed when I pointed out that I worked FT so he would be looking after his dad.

wolf glad the money came through, sounds very stressful.

ememem84 · 31/12/2021 18:46

Yeah I’m not helping. I wouldn’t expect DH to drop everything to help dparents so it works both ways.

Friends round this afternoon and we’ve had melty Camembert for dinner. Yummm

Mrsmadevans · 31/12/2021 18:54

Startagaintoday · 31/12/2021 19:23

Thanks all. Yes I have a partner to look after me. We also went on a 300 mile round trip to see my widowed elderly mother. I didn't want to cancel. So he drove, shopped, cooked lunch and did all her little jobs. No spends today and got paid including overtime so paid off overdraft and bought some premium bonds. Here's hoping🙏🙏🙏 I have only just joined mumsnet so need to learn how to tag people
Hope everyone else feeling rough recovers soon
Happy New year. No way I'll see midnight. Maybe 8pm😁
