Tayto in my neck of the woods it's been a mild and fairly dry Christmas one heavy shower Christmas Day.

HumbugWhale · 28/12/2021 20:10

Welcome Start!

Alfie I really hope it's for good,am sending positive vibes your way.

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/12/2021 20:13

Hey start, what’s your goal? Paying off debt, savings, living a frugal life- bit of all?

Ok, January = proper financial control

AdoraBell · 28/12/2021 20:32

Welcome aboard Start

Me, NSD, DH bought plastic boxes and broom handles to make a boot stand. Also rodent repellent, we found mouse droppings in the garage. I ordered them on Amazon yesterday but they won’t arrive until the 9th of January. We’d be overrun by then Hmm

Thanks Tayto it was great to see and she had her Christmas presents to open in the restaurant 🤣

Alfiemoon1 · 28/12/2021 21:23

Welcome start you will get lots of advice and support in this group

ememem84 · 28/12/2021 21:34

Puzzle finished. Yay.

It’s still on the board. How long does one wait before chucking it back in the box?

I made a resolution for the new year (or at least January). No unnecessary spends. I’m back in the office on jan 4th. And office is right in the centre of town. Ordinarily I’d spend a lunch hour browsing the shops. However. This seems to cause me to spend. But seeing as masks are mandatory again here from 4 jan and I hate them I won’t be shopping. DH Will do food shop or I’ll do it online. But it should help.

Sorted some stuff for charity shop. Will take tomorrow.

Proportionate to the effort that has gone into doing it I'd say em!
Welcome start
tayto rainy here too
happier enjoy the quiet time, I know exactly what you mean.

Ds hasn't had his PCR result yet but Lat flow today was a much stronger positive. We are still negative. Family visit to Devon cancelled. Hip still painful today but more manageable. Going to phone work tomorrow to swap Wednesday & Thursday to sick leave from annual leave. Haven't been out of the house since Christmas Eve.
Good frugaleering here. Soup made yesterday, today was turkey & ham pie with a filo topping to use up filo that was lingering in the bottom of the fridge. Just enough for turkey curry tomorrow and then we'll be done

Startagaintoday · 29/12/2021 06:47

Thanks for the welcome. Just want to stop frittering away money.

ememem84 · 29/12/2021 07:04

@Startagaintoday

Thanks for the welcome. Just want to stop frittering away money.
Don’t we all!

My goal is to do no unnecessary spends in January. So literally nothing I or the kids don’t need. We have enough.

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/12/2021 07:14

I’m going to have that goal em. And plan p properly
Boo unescorted

HumbugWhale · 29/12/2021 07:59

I need to update the spreadsheet ready for January. We have a few spends coming up e.g. we have promised to decorate dd1's room this year and we would really like new living room furniture.

Unescorted · 29/12/2021 08:24

Hi start welcome to our cosy corner.

Tayto I understand the need for peace. DD &DH are planning a trip to London... I am secretly hoping it lasts longer than a day. My old uni rents out rooms in halls during the holidays for not so much.

Hearing about all the leftovers meals I am starting to regret not cooking too much food.

My overlocker arrived safely.... I may be sometime.......

We have been having a frugal disaster as we were due to go and stay with friends in a foreign country, flights booked since September when things looked better. They now have cold feet about having us to stay but we can’t get a refund on flights as there’s no actual reason to cancel as far as the airline see it so we have been agonising over whether to lose the £400 for flights or pay for accommodation. The issue is that we originally planned to stay there for 3 days but when they said come and stay with us, they encouraged us to stay longer so we now have to pay for 6 nights accommodation, cheapest I can find is £550 in a studio airbnb. Also now going to be eating out/paying for food etc. Feeling a bit glum about it as we really can’t afford it, lesson learned not to book stuff depending on friends!
Otherwise all good here - we made it to NI for Xmas and it was absolutely lovely to see family. I’m hoping to book a one or two night stay for myself in Feb once I get paid in Jan.
We are one payday away from being credit card debt free, or we were til the holiday disaster occurred, I can’t wait til we can start to save properly as it’s scary having no cushion. It may not be til end of Feb now as we have had to put accommodation on cc and our saved pot of spending money won’t go as far Sad

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/12/2021 08:42

Ah that’s a shame gen. Can you move the flights rather than cancel? Tbh I would lose the £400 than spend more

Stabby jabby the third done. Off to see if there is a dgod in the sales.

See ya soon unescorted. Happy overlocking

Taytocrisps · 29/12/2021 09:49

I did a quick check and the money from my savings transferred across ok. Phew! I was just afraid there might be a delay with the banks and financial institutions closed over the Christmas period. Didn't want to miss the direct debit for my mortgage.

Unescorted I googled overlocker. It's a sewing machine, right? Have fun playing with your new toy Smile

Gen that's really disappointing. If it's not possible to postpone the flights, I think I'd just settle for the loss of the flights money rather than spending extra on accommodation and food etc. Delighted to hear you made it home to NI for Christmas and good work on clearing the credit card debt.

life that's obviously a typo but now I'm intrigued to know what you intend buying in the sales. I'm picturing Maui with a sale tag around his neck Smile.

Going to read my new book for a bit and then hoover downstairs and catch up on some laundry. Might pop down to the GP clinic for my booster in the afternoon. I'll see what the queue is like. It's quite windy so I'm hoping that puts everyone else off.

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/12/2021 10:06

Dgod = dressing gown of doom

Wolfcub · 29/12/2021 10:22

Tayto enjoy the peace. I'm impressed you've already sorted the January budget. I need to do that today

In the spirit of using leftovers breakfast was toast, scrambled egg made with extra thick double cream and prosciutto

Welcome Start

Alfie fingers crossed this time it's for good. Might it be worth getting her to look at the freedom programme or something similar?

Unescorted enjoy the overlocker

Life take preventive paracetamol for the inevitable sore arm

North very wise swapping the leave especially as you can't get up and out to enjoy it

Still sodding raining here.

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/12/2021 10:31

Is it ever going to stop raining

ememem84 · 29/12/2021 10:32

Wolf that sounds amazing.

Taytocrisps · 29/12/2021 13:42

@lifelongfrugaleer

Dgod = dressing gown of doom
