I think I feel that in the context of other protests in the past couple of years it was women being silenced. Especially when the police in Glasgow last week walked with the celebrating footie fans whis were mostly male. Different police force I know. I do feel for Sarah's family though, I think they should be allowed to grieve instead of her death becoming a political issue.

Unescorted · 15/03/2021 08:48

It is exactly that discrepancy that highlights why the PP bill is so dangerous. There is no provision for an independent body to make the decision on what would be lawful or not and the bar for being unlawful is so low. Causing an annoyance??? wtf. Who gets to decide what an annoyance is - the police marching with Rangers fans along the road holding up traffic or the police body checking women to the ground when they gathered in a park. Or even more scary - a unilateral annoyance caused by people who disagree with the politicians of the day.

ememem84 · 15/03/2021 09:01

i was a bit Hmm re the protests too. didnt they let the BLM protests take place? were there fundamental issues because this was women protesting for safety?

was chatting with dsis and her bf yesterday ( who the more i get to know him the nicer he becomes). we got onto the women subject, and mat leave and he asked me a question which i will pose now:

you are an employer (small business). you have two candidates who are equal in experience, skill etc. one is male. one is female. this is the only difference. who do you employ?

Unescorted · 15/03/2021 11:59

For me it would depend on what the current balance for that role is in terms of gender.

If I already had males employed at that seniority / job role I would employ the female. If it is the other way around then I would employ the male. If I couldn't choose based on that criteria I would flip a coin.

ememem84 · 15/03/2021 12:24

interesting. dh, dm and df and dsis and the boys all said they'd employ the male, because they wouldn't have to pay maternity leave.

i said i'd do a coin flip.

Wolfcub · 15/03/2021 13:26

If they are totally level pegging at interview the one who either meets more of the essential criteria for the job or who has more past experience

Mrsmadevans · 15/03/2021 17:02

l know a local firm who never employ young females. l am sure it is because of this reason but who is to know the truth .

ememem84 · 15/03/2021 18:42

Exactly. The boss said a while ago (after me coming back from Mat leave no 2) and a chAnge in law here that they’d have to consider getting any more girls of a certain age.

I pointed out that it was ageist. But he said they’d do it carefully. And maybe only on one year contracts.

To be fair to him they haven’t employed anyone new since. So the issue hasn’t come up...but I see that that’s the way some smaller businesses might go. But won’t say it out loud obvs.

Happierwithouthim · 15/03/2021 19:05

@Mrsmadevans

I nearly forgot , Dh has restored a garden set 4 chairs & a table for Dd2 , we have had it for 35 years , it is amazing! He has done it up so well, she is otm with it, 4 cans of spray paint and a primer, cost about 40 pounds in all . You should have seen it before, it was awful!
That's fab mrs
maddenlightfoot · 15/03/2021 19:41

I am here! Just still acclimatising to new house, new routines etc. Life good luck with your move!

Mrs that table is 😍

Unescorted · 15/03/2021 19:47

Hey Madden - hope you are settling in nicely.

SnugglySnerd · 15/03/2021 21:11

Hi Madden!

Nsd. Dull day all round but that isn't a bad thing!

AmberItsACertainty · 15/03/2021 22:52

I've been feeling lethargic this week. You've all been so busy. Good to hear everyone's DC are adjusting to school again. The census letter came so I've filled that in and sent it back. Sorted car tax. Altered another dress to fit which was too big. Treated myself to some posh donuts tonight.

Glad you're settling in madden.

Nice makeover with the table Mrs.

Congrats to those who had some winnings Smile

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/03/2021 06:40

And so the removal costs start.
£60 van hire,
Need lists and stuff today.

Unescorted · 16/03/2021 06:48

Does that mean you have completed life

I am going spend £4000 on my car today. It was a lease car through work but to cut costs combined with the expectation that we are going to be doing fewer in person meetings they are no longer renewing lease cars. Mine is due to be collected so I have decided to buy it - one careful lady driver, full service history guaranteed. Looking on Auto Trader to purchase one with similar mileage and age would be £6-10K so I figure it is a bit of a deal.

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/03/2021 06:52

No we complete on the 26th but removal men are booked. They are coming 23rd so we have a nervous week of 2 houses

ememem84 · 16/03/2021 07:00

When you say lists do you mean list of things to do? As in things to pack? Cancel? Set up?

My moving lists include:

First night bags - have bedding made up already to throw on beds. Couple of changes of clothes. Shower stuff. Kettle. Toaster. Tea. Milk. Or breakfast out. All of that goes in the car with you.

Start the declutter now.

northender · 16/03/2021 08:29

Oh that's exciting life
madden glad you're settling in
Lovely bright table & chairs Mrs
unescorted Mother's Day breakfast was fab, but ds got himself so stressed doing it, he ended up taking a beta blocker! Then in the afternoon dd was getting a bit stressed doing tea, so he tried to help & gave his finger a bit of a slice and nearly fainted at the sight of the blood! Anyway, it was a memorable day and the food was all good (garlic & herb trout for tea). Days like that end up tinged with a bit of sadness though as I curse the ME and its impact on ds' life.
Thanks for the sourdough tips too, im going to try another starter but if it doesn't work out, I will gratefully accept some from you Smile

Although I'm on a week of leave, I have some training today at 10. The rest of the day will be a mix of things, tidying & cleaning, sewing & crochet, cooking & baking
I've got a £5 free bet for Cheltenham so will try to make something of it

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/03/2021 08:55

Exactly that em

Happierwithouthim · 16/03/2021 09:08

unescorted sounds like a great move with the car, happy motoring beep beep

Bornlazy · 16/03/2021 11:03

Nsd yesterday 🎉 Today I have ordered some presents for my brothers birthday - £42 Amazon. Just my friend to buy for now and that's the March birthdays done. It has been such an expensive month 🙈

I had my 2nd covid vaccine yesterday so my arm is killing me today. Thankfully I have a few days off work to recover.

Mrs love the garden set.

Madden hope you're settling into your new house - how exciting!!

north sounds like there was a lot of effort went into your Mother's Day. Your poor ds went through the mill to make it special.
Ds1 is a terrible fainter, he fainted after a covid test as there was blood on the swab and they had to redo it. It was the most dramatic thing ever as he was in the back of the car and I had to jump out to help him. They were all screaming "get back in your vehicle!" If anyone has ever been for a covid test at an airport you'll know what I mean.

Unescorted what a bargain with your car.

We are looking for a car for ds1 at the moment and they are all quite expensive. He hasn't passed his test yet as everything has been cancelled with covid but at least if he has a car he can continue to get some practice in.

Life that's great it's finally happening. The actual move won't be quite as stressful though if you have more time to do it so that's good. I helped my friend move house and it was awful as we were taking her stuff out the next people were bringing theirs in.

Frugal fail this month as I let both the car insurance and the house insurance auto renew. It's not that I think I could have got them cheaper it just that I've missed out on cashback 😬

ememem84 · 16/03/2021 14:39

Letter in my desk this morning. Payrise. Bonus of £1300. Wahoooo

Unescorted · 16/03/2021 15:54

Dd2 & Dh very disappointed re the RWC tickets they had all gone they didn't even get a look in! Shock Did your Dh get any afterwards? I thought it would be a ballot like before but apparently not ! They are in mourning here Sad
North oh bless your Ds but it sounds as if they really made an effort for Mothers day for you Flowers
Unescorted that is an excellent move , great price fair dos! when l left my NHS job they wanted me to pay 7.5 k for a nearly 5 year old car with 40000 miles on it . I gave it back and bought our own car, same make and model 7k on the clock, a year younger for 6.5 k we still have it she has been a fab car Smile
Madden sounds as if everything is turning out well re the move such a relief for you lovely Smile
Life won't be long now yay! So exciting Grin
Amber hope you are ok lovely Flowers
Gen hope you are feeling ok now sweetie Smile
Snuggly nowt wrong with a dull day , l would kill for one of those sometimes Grin
Have been shopping didn't get much , Dh wanted bird seed l needed a few bits Smile
What on earth is all this furore in EU re the AstraZeneca jab? Surely it is political revenge over Brexit!
On another note poor Prince Phillip , whatever any of us think about the Meghan & Harry row/interview/allegations , he looks just terrible , l l actually wondered if they have let him go home to die tbh and it does make me think it just wasn't the right time , if there ever was a right time but not now , l felt very sorry for him Sad
