Morning. Felt really shit mentally yesterday. Really down and low.

Feeling a bit better today.

Up nice breakfast and have sorted laundry. Dh has done nothing this week while he’s been at home. So i think I have...9 loads of laundry to get done this weekend.

Whites
Lights
Brights
Black
Darks
Ds bedding - currently in
The “mucky box” - dish cloths cleaning cloths and flannels and bath mat etc
My sanitary pads & Ds reuseable pull ups

Slightly annoyed. This is non frugal. But I ordered a purse for myself from mulberry as a “passing my assignments and being fully qualified” treat and a preemptive “it’s payrise and bonus time” on Friday.

Ordered it. Vat off etc. All good. Call yesterday to let me know they don’t have it in warehouse but a store has it. All fine. Call from store to say they can’t shop to me but will send via harrods. Call from harrods to say could I pay over the phone and oh there’ll be an additional £50 shipping.

I cancelled it.

It’s a shame because it’s lovely. But so much hassle.

But it wasn’t very frugal.

northender · 13/03/2021 08:28

unescorted I don't have a starter at the moment, but need to sort that out this week. Dd has IBS and finds sourdough much better for her tummy. I still find it confusing as so many different writers have different approaches. Ideally i want to find a way like you, to not throw starter away, but also to find a method which isn't so labour intensive. The method I've used with success needs you to do approx 6 kneads half an hour apart and a couple of long proves so it becomes difficult to fit in

northender · 13/03/2021 08:33

Oh that's disappointing em

SingToTheSky · 13/03/2021 08:38

Wtf em how is that fair to add on shipping when it wasn’t your choice to get it shipped via Harrods?! Hmm Sorry you felt crap yesterday 💐 and hope you can get the purse some other time.

Gensola sorry about the car :(

Loads of life admin to sort this weekend. Forms etc. Also yesterday I spoke to the OU, found out the timings for enrolling/student finance etc. And found out there’s another option for the first module which I much prefer! Might get the recommended introductory reading book today, £24 unless I find a used copy. Gives me something to prepare over the next few months.

Girlie I’m glad things are improving now DD1 is back in school!

ememem84 · 13/03/2021 08:48

I know sing they also said I’d have to pay over the phone or spend more to be able to pay online. So that sort of rang bells with me too. Will wait.

Mrsmadevans · 13/03/2021 08:53

Morning everyone 😀
Em there was a retail boss on the news last night saying that the postage and packaging was out of hand to the EU. He mentioned an order for 15 that had 38 vat etc etc added to it . I know you are not the EU but l am wondering if this is what happened re Harrods getting involved . Shame about it but the s seems to be the way everything is going ATM 🙄
Just about to go to MumBobs , have got her mother's Day gifts and cards with me in case the weather is bad tomorrow & we can't get there. Have bought her 3 jumpers in the sale 18 , box of chocs 3, CBD cream from Holland and Barrett 10, perfume from Aldi 6 , Roses 4, all in all £41 for £85 worth .

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/03/2021 09:02

Ah em that's shit. Sorry you are feeling down too.
Cheeky twats I think the retailers there.

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/03/2021 09:03

Gonna start packing a bit more today. Need to go to super drug and Aldi and Sainsbury's

Unescorted · 13/03/2021 09:23

em that it awful. Cheecky feckers.

North I can send you some of my starter if you want. It is really vigorous and so far un killable. I left it at the back of the fridge for about 6 months and it has come back good. I still have to throw a bit away - but the new method means I just use 50g to refresh - makes up to 150g. Use 20-40g in the new loaf, 50g to refresh. Use the rest as flavouring for crackers / breadsticks or pizza or discard. It only needs refreshing in the week prior to baking. The timetable I use is mix in the morning on day 1 (3 x stretch the ears over @ 15 minute intervals), shape end of day one. Put in fridge overnight and bake in the morning of day 2. If I was working in the office It could be a mix evening, shape am next day before work and cook in the evening.

life I hate packing - everything takes up so much room & inevitably I need the thing in the bottom of one of the early boxes for the first time in several years. Good luck!

We have had deliveries to the children this week - I have not been party to the contents. I am holding out for a good Mother's day tomorrow.

SnugglySnerd · 13/03/2021 09:36

Dh said he would take ds out for a bit this morning. Ds just came and told me "We are going to the supermarket to buy flowers for Mothers Day". I think that was meant to be a surprise Grin Oh well it gave me the chance to remind ds that mummy like tulips best!

Wolfcub · 13/03/2021 09:47

Ha Snuggly ds still does that now he can't contain himself so no gift is ever a surprise. Hopefully you get lots of tulips

Em how irritating

Windy and rainy here today, bedroom looking very odd with no furniture apart from the bed and half a carpet. Work starts Monday and I'm hoping I will still be able to sleep in the bed otherwise it's the sitting room floor for a few nights for me. I know that the week after I'll have to sleep in the office but that's currently full of stuff from the bedroom - honestly it's like one of those puzzles you used to get in a cracker where you slide the pieces round to make a picture

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 13/03/2021 09:53

Am just popping on to say I'm nodding along with the teen talk, dd is now 15yo and apparently EVERYTHING is my fault - who knew 🙄

ememem84 · 13/03/2021 10:06

V annoying. And they did blame brexit. Anyway. Moving on.

I’ve discovered dh’s stash of dirty laundry. Have put this in a basket and will do it last. If at all. If I’m feeling generous today.

Haven’t showered yet. Feel a bit gross. But am off to the stables in a bit and it’s going to Chuck it with rain so no point really if I’m just going to get wet. Will shower when I get home.

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/03/2021 10:51

I should be schrodinger's mother- simultaneously responsible for everything he needs/wants and also not involved at all.

This comment from another thread on teens made me laugh. Along with binge - teen for the excessive behaviour.
We aren't there yet but I fear it will come. W

Mrsmadevans · 13/03/2021 11:04

Lovely again here honestly it was pouring just now 🙄
Off to Morrisons to pick up 2 X afternoon teas for us for Mother's Day tomorrow. Looking forward to it l can tell you , bugger the diet 😊😋

Wolfcub · 13/03/2021 11:45

£6 bakers
£7 butchers
Soaking to the skin and red legs free of charge

OP posts:
Wolfcub · 13/03/2021 12:52

Life I particularly liked the term teen-Rex from that thread although I think in our house it's more teen-velociraptor

OP posts:
Unescorted · 13/03/2021 15:00

That has been a good thread.

Snuggly my lot are very keen to pick up things for dinner today too. Coupled with a top secret shopping list.

northender · 13/03/2021 15:05

Apparently here, ds is in charge of breakfast and dd in charge of tea so I am free to do as I please! Cocktail have been mentioned too...
Speaking of which, has anyone else had a Solero cocktail video pop up on facebook? Probably very sickly sweet, but think we might try it when the weather gets warmer.

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/03/2021 16:17

I missed that one wolf Grin
Dh has been to Sainsbury's on a mission this afternoon. Everywhere is really busy today though.
£22 super drug, £15 Aldi.

ememem84 · 13/03/2021 18:13

Dd has just had a meltdown to end all meltdowns. No idea why.

Gensola · 14/03/2021 07:38

Happy Mother’s Day to everyone who is a mum or in that role, or who wants to be a mum but isn’t yet FlowersWineGinCake

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/03/2021 07:40

Ah yes gen, well put x

ememem84 · 14/03/2021 07:42

gen well put xx

Dsis sent me a message saying hmd this morning. Apparently I’m like her second mum. Which is both lovely and annoying! 😂

Unescorted · 14/03/2021 09:33

Wise words Gen. I hope you all have a lovely day

I have had a HMD shout out from the bathroom and a cup of tea. I hope I haven't misread the parcel deliveries and secretive supermarket trips.
