Happy Friday!

wolf I had variations of " That is not good. You can't change their behavior but you can change your response to it so it is less hurtful to you. Why don't we look at ways of doing that" on repeat. One day DD woke up and was human again - it was bliss. DS touch wood doesn't seem to have got into the woe is me mindset - possibly because with all the bikepacking he knows that no matter what crisis happens only he can get himself out of the situation.

Dd had her end of term report which was a good lift to her spirits. She is suffering from being the best by a country mile to being amongst similarly talented people. Her confidence is dipping - thankfully her tutor recognises it and is making sure she gets plenty of support.

Snuggly I will keep an eye out - but I doubt I will see one. Trees are in short supply around here. Despite being rural it is an industrial landscape overlaid by commercial grouse shooting.

Gen I find it helps to remind myself that I am the expert. They don't know what you are going to say so anything you say will be perceived as being what you meant to say.
We are taught a really good way of structuring talks - decide your take away message. Work out 3 points to support that and then 3 points to support each of those.
eg - this school is great so send your kids here. The 3 supporting points could be Great results, happy kids, easy to get to. To support all of those you could have - Great results - 3 points could be exam results, additionality and move on stats. Happy kids- pastoral support, extra curricular and and parental involvement.
Then you add a top and bottom to the talk - For the top it is helpful to have something that they aren't expecting - a rhetorical question / poll or a couple of slides to flick through then intro yourself. It gets their attention.

Morning.

Frugal win. Changed handbags and found a christmas lottery ticket. Checked the numbers and I’ve won £100. So will claim that. Wahoo.

Wolfcub · 12/03/2021 08:03

Good work Em

I agree about the rule of three for presentations it works. Never have an even number of things

Unescorted can I pm you a job question for a friend?

Of course

Gensola · 12/03/2021 09:36

My car has been vandalised - entire passenger side wing mirror has been broken off, not just the glass but the actual plastic wing mirror itself. Last week glass in the other one was broken and we only just had it fixed. Only my car has been targeted that I can see looking around. Sad

Happierwithouthim · 12/03/2021 10:39

em nice win there
I won 4c off a litre of fuel on my scratch and win but I get that anyhow on my fuel card so I'm no better off Grin

Converted 250 Supervalu points worth €2.50 to €5 off my Electric Ireland bill, I very rarely shop in SuperValu so these points are generated from paying my Electric Ireland bill in the first place, win win Grin

One winning product from Supervalu is their own brand limescale remover toilet duck, it's just the best. 79c.

Last big childcare bill for a while tomorrow €160 for 5 half days for dd and both of them for 3 hours tomorrow. Back to €10 breakfast club and €35 for bus. In 4 weeks I'll be able to remove €500 from childcare category and put into my emergency fund bringing it to €1500. I stayed allowing the au pairs salary to build up for childcare after she left last August.

Unescorted · 12/03/2021 11:24

Gen that sucks. By target I assume it is b/c no other cars are being damaged?. Is it worth getting a small camera for the car so you have evidence of it being done? It may be enough to deter them.

Happierwithouthim · 12/03/2021 12:52

Is it parked somewhere it can be easily damaged or have you unwittingly upset someone gen?

Gensola · 12/03/2021 13:35

happier it’s parked on thé street outside the house but the wing mirror which has been smashed off (as in the entire wing mirror has been broken off the car, not just glass smashed) is on the pavement side so I can’t see how it could have happened by accident. The whole casing is in smithereens.
Yeah unescorted my car has had wing mirror smashed last week (glass only) and then completely beaten off the car today, literally the day after I got it back fixed from last time. No other cars are damaged and there are lots parked all around there.

SnugglySnerd · 12/03/2021 15:36

It must be the day for it Em, I won £25 on the premium bonds!

Sorry about your car Gen, that's so rubbish.

Happierwithouthim · 12/03/2021 15:44

gen that's horrible
Good news snuggly

Mrsmadevans · 12/03/2021 17:13

Afternoon everyone Smile
Fear my sentiments exactly re Lidl!
Had a good shop there today as well, bought Dh a slide & negative scanner for his negatives , he had one about 12 years ago but it was broken not long ago, so we have been looking out for one for him. Anyway l spotted this one in Lidl for 36.99 about 3 weeks ago, l wanted to get it for him but he wouldn't have it Grin Men!
I go in today and it is in the reduced pit , got it for 24.99 and he is otm with it thank God Grin Will put my receipt on in a bit Smile
Gen that French lesson sounds brilliant, l used to love French in school SmileGood luck with the Zoom prep you will ace it l just know it! Smile
Snuggly brilliant ! l have never seen a Treecreeper here Smile
Happier that seems bout the same price as it is here, 20kgs is £7.50 here so about a fiver less here but not much in it , MumBob has his delivered for free though! They are in the country and they have a lot of ppl with coal fires because there isn't any mains gas, so the local coal merchant does delivery rounds Smile

Mrsmadevans · 12/03/2021 17:24

Unescorted ahh bless your Dd l am sure she is doing really well amongst her peers Smile
Life hope you manage a good nights sleep tonight Smile
Gen aw bless you lovely l am so sorry Flowers
Snuggly first a Treecreeper and now 25 quid excellent! Grin
Em that is fab re the 100 quid win! Am so envious over your being able to go out for a meal that is one of the first things l am going to do when we are allowed , it sounded lovely Smile
Happier that is great news re the childcare cost you won't know yourself! Smile
Teenagers Hmm they seem to turn into these aggressive, cheeky youths overnight! I remember mine went through a stage of complaining at everything we did, we were so boring and controlling and mean!! Grin It was such a shock from how they had been Grin . One good thing it doesn't last long and then they are reformed characters Smile

Happierwithouthim · 12/03/2021 17:24

Lots of merchants here deliver too
I just haven't gone down that route, maybe next place

Mrsmadevans · 12/03/2021 17:25

On another note, l have managed to get Mum and Bobbo hair appts next Thursday thank God 😊

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/03/2021 18:09

Great news on the wins.
£160 Aldi but I got a load of equestrian stuff for DD.

northender · 12/03/2021 18:41

unescorted ultimately it'll be great for your dd being surrounded by such talent, so long as she has good support
Gen how horrible for you having your car damaged. Hope it is accidental
We have a new Lidl store with a bakery within walking distance. Could become s regular weekend habit...
Sounds like another busy day Mrs
Good to see you happier
Girlie glad your dd is s little better
After another horrible work week, today was a day off and I'm not back in until 22nd which will be a much needed break. Did shopping for parents today & have managed to sort out an afternoon tea to take to them on Sunday £30. dh has ordered flowers for his mum £40. The dc seem to have things under control and are planning lots of cooking on Sunday. HM pizza for tea tonight, lasagne tomorrow.
Great wins Em and snuggly

Unescorted · 12/03/2021 20:10

North you are so right - and her tutors are always singing her praises. She just is her own worst critic.

Lidl with a bakery within walking distance would be so dangerous for me.

Tomorrow is a walking day - I will pack my waterproofs

SnugglySnerd · 12/03/2021 22:18

I think tomorrow is the nicer day of the weekend weather-wise Unescorted. Enjoy your walking.

It was my 3rd ever tree creeper. In almost the exact same spot I saw my second one!

Gensola · 12/03/2021 22:25

unescorted thanks for the tips re the présentation, that’s actually super helpful, as my worst tendency is to over prepare and have way too much to say which I then have to cram in to not enough time.
I went to Oxbridge and had the exact experience of your DD - I went from being the best in my state school to being among lots of very bright people, most of whom had been taught much better at posh private schools. It took about a year for us all to find our niches! I didn’t love my first year but after that I adored it.

Unescorted · 13/03/2021 07:19

Most people put treat a presentation as an opportunity to tell the audience everything they know and some things they don't

I think most people at Oxbridge have the same realisation that there are others who are in the same league. It doesn't help that for art that they are in mixed1st / 2nd / 3rd year teaching and tutorial groups. This term her tutorial group has only one other 1st year, who is the person who she thinks is the best in her year. She sees that it is a good thing for her development - just uncomfortable. Once she is back in the studio it will be less formal.

I have done the new sourdough bread recipe twice now - I am satisfied it is worth changing my methodology. In stead of faffing with feeding and refeeding the starter the new methodology just bungs it in unfed into the bulk rise. Recipe is [https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/pain-de-campagne-recipe here I increased the flour slightly b/c I have a 50/50 starter I suspect the recipe used a a stiff starter (1/3 water 2/3 flour). The Le Cruset is essential.
