I'm just on the way to meet friend for a walk.

have been so ready for this since 9. am getting a bit bored today.

have managed to reschedule my beauticians appointment to tonight though. wahooo. although i do feel that i've messed them around somewhat. i have apologised for being difficult, and have asked them not to take it out on me when the waxing commences! haha!

lifelongfrugaleer · 08/03/2021 13:29

Sing my ds11 is loving Cirque du freak books

SingToTheSky · 08/03/2021 14:32

Thanks life I’ll take a look!

Since it’s IWD I just watched the new film Moxie on Netflix. Loved it ❤️

AmberItsACertainty · 08/03/2021 15:24

Oooh, international women's day, that sounds good. We deserve to be celebrated, we are amazing.

sing does he read non-fiction? Or are you looking for novels to tempt him?

ememem84 · 08/03/2021 21:20

£29 waxing. Bikini and eyebrow. Necessary. And it hurt. Beautician uses hot wax not strip wax but apparently the hair was holding on in there. So glad to get it done though. Phew.

£37 petrol. This fills up the tank and should last a month.

SingToTheSky · 08/03/2021 21:43

Amber he is currently adamant he doesn’t want to read regular fiction. Happy for me to read to him (we are currently on northern lights at his request but that’s part of the home ed day) and likes a narrow range of audiobooks on repeat to help him sleep. But he likes stuff like Phoenix comics so graphic novels are good. And recently discovered the books where puzzles are sort of built in to each page. I have tried stuff like word search/crossword books too at night but he struggles with words really. He does read a bit of non fiction if it’s colourful/small bits of info rather than walls of text IYSWIM. He carried a lift the flap periodic table book everywhere for months once 😂 man I miss working in the library

NSD. Was sooo tempted by deliveroo earlier but reheated leftovers instead. DH paid for a big block of zoom dance for DD1 (£24) after I booked it.

Fearofawelshplanet · 08/03/2021 21:54

NSD...busy at work.

AmberItsACertainty · 09/03/2021 01:52

sing sorry this is short my phone's playing up. I've twice typed a reply explaining more and it's kicked me off before posting it. Try: Earth the power of the planet by Ian Stewart and John Lynch. Back To Cape Horn by Rosie Swale. The Heavenly Horse From The Outermost West and the sequel Piper At The Gates Of Dawn both by Mary Stanton.

Em ouch!

ememem84 · 09/03/2021 06:35

Morning. I set my alarm for 6 this morning specifically to get some quiet time.

I had exactly...10 minutes downstairs on my own before ds joined me! Not quite the hour of quiet alone time I was hoping for...!

Off to the office today. Yippee!

SnugglySnerd · 09/03/2021 06:39

That's always happens to me Em!

Busy first day back yesterday. Lovely to see the students and teach a proper lesson. More kids back today. I haven't been sleeping well (mainly because of dcs) and am already feeling very very tired.

ememem84 · 09/03/2021 06:46

Oh snuggly I’m so happy for you that you’re back to work! I can’t imagine how tough teaching from home was!

gen I think you’re a teacher too? Same for you!

I slept ok last night. Dd stirred at 220 but I managed to get her back to sleep without waking her up properly iykwim.

Having porridge with both dc now. And watching CBeebies. Hooray!

lifelongfrugaleer · 09/03/2021 06:52

I need a few minutes peace first thing before I have to people.
DD back to school today then just me left.
£14 yesterday as Easter eggs are 3 for £10 coop.

Ouch em but worth it.
Sing D's is the same, hates solo reading but would have me read to him for hours

ememem84 · 09/03/2021 07:07

sing we have one of these for ds. Admittedly he is 3.... but it’s brilliant. Dsis bought it for him for his birthday. You can record messages and stories on it and download books. Or buy the figurines which tell stories too.

Unescorted · 09/03/2021 07:09

em the hour of peace will come. It kicked in at about 12 ish. Now I can have quiet until about 2 in the afternoon. Even then they poke their noses out of their rooms and retreat as soon as they have eaten all the junk food they can find.

Having said that I normally spend the first hour of any day tidying up the squalid tip they have created after I have gone to bed.

Can I just say a huge thanks to all the teachers here. You have been and continue to be my unsung heroes in all of this. DS is going back to school having been supported all the way through by his amazing teachers. I hope you all enjoy being back to do face to face teaching.

I did my first lateral flow Covid test yesterday - it was a negative.

One of DD's tutors has created a 40 day Creative Challenge - we are going to start it when she finishes her term at the end of the week.

Anyway I have to get going for another exciting day of working at my kitchen table.

ememem84 · 09/03/2021 08:40

Unbelievable upset from ds this morning for pre school. He didn’t want to go. And then floods of tears that grandad (fil) doesn’t like him.

Have left him at preschool feel the worst for doing it when he’s so so upset. But he will be ok. He will.

Am having a coffee and being strong willed and no pastry...

SingToTheSky · 09/03/2021 09:14

Oh no em poor DS 😰 he’s so little to be having worries like that. I have heard great things about the toniebox 😍

Thank you amber will check those out!

Absolutely what unescorted said about teachers 💐

Intrigued by this creative challenge! I need to get my art mojo back.

I relate re the needing some quiet solitary time in order to function. Mine was mostly at the end of the day - Cagletini has always been an awful sleeper, and between her and the older two needing a lot of input (especially DD1 who always wants the big conversations at like 11pm...) I tended to end up staying up even later just to get some peace. Have attached a screenshot, I seriously relate to “revenge bedtime procrastination” :o. Thankfully Cagletini is in a better routine now and I’m starting to grab that peace in the mornings to read a bit, and not need it at night as she’s asleep earlier.

My other solitude is the piano since I got a digital in January. With headphones :o

Poor ds Em that's awful where has he got that impression? Not surprised you are upset.

OP posts:
Lovemaltesers · 09/03/2021 12:27

Poor DS em , fil isn’t very child friendly is he?

My boss came in early. “I’m very annoyed.” Dramatic pause, whilst I’m thinking what on earth have I done. “About a current news story”. We thrive on drama here!

Unescorted · 09/03/2021 12:59

awww poor little mite em. It is odd that it manifested as he was about to go to nursery. I know you fil is not always the most approachable person, but if it were me I would also explore how ds is at nursery too. Sometimes little one attribute emotional hurt caused by one thing to something they feel they have more control over or is more familiar. So instead of saying I am being picked on at nursery they go back to a historic time they have felt something similar and say it is that. So your DS may be feeling unloved but because he knows that he has dealt with it before he falsely attribute the same feeling to the historic cause not the current.

I hope that makes sense.... and obviously he could be saying exactly what he means.

Bornlazy · 09/03/2021 13:09

Hi everyone hope you are all well. It was ds1's 18th birthday yesterday and for all it was a lovely day and he was thoroughly spoiled I feel strangely flat today. I'm not sure if I would always have felt like this or if it's the lockdown exacerbating it. I'm not sure that I'm ready to have an "adult" son.

Lots of expenses this month car and house insurance plus caravan fees and 4 birthdays yikes I'm skint and we are not even half way through yet.

All the talk of poaching eggs has put me in the mood I'm off to make some .... in the microwave Shock WinkGrin

Unescorted · 09/03/2021 13:55

Happy birthday MiniBorn. I had that same flat feeling with DD's 18th - she has yet to have her party from over a year ago. B/c her A level work being due and all her friends being in mock season she was going to have the party a bit late.
I am not ready to be the mother of a fully functioning adult. She functions very well without my input now. I feel superfluous except when she thinks I needs a cuddle.

ememem84 · 09/03/2021 14:35

Fil isn’t the most approcheable. They (him and his partner) essentially ignore the kids when we see them. It’s heartbreaking. Ds wants to play and they just sit there. Whereas dparents are so hands on.

I am absolutely going to check out preschool though. He is usually so happy so not sure what’s going on. But will ask on pick up tonight. They are usually good and let me know if there’s an issue though. And if I thought there was one I’d absolutely be asking.

Ds is quite passive in that Dd will rip a toy away from him and he’ll cry. Or tell on her. But I’m trying to make sure he stands up for himself whilst also getting Dd to tone down the aggression! She is definetly going to be strong willed!!!!

It was upsetting though this morning because he’s usually so excited to go and be with his friends.

I wonder if he’s just tired though. I mean they have full on days at nursery/pre school. Today would have most likely involves a trip out to the park or a walk around the marina and maybe to the beach. Painting drawing reading singing dancing yoga (!) playing home corner blocks etc. So yeah. Busy.

Bit of early night books this evening I think.

ememem84 · 09/03/2021 14:38

£103 boots on shampoo for dh (on a threefa) clarins hand cream and body cream for dsis for her birthday, hair dye (me. Rose pink). Face scrub (dh) and clarins night cream (me). Loads of points though. Wahoooo.

Happierwithouthim · 09/03/2021 18:48

@AmberItsACertainty

So after spending the day cleaning I was tired and wanting a quick tea. Bemoaning the egg situation to my friend earlier in the week (love them, no cooker) she mentioned that it's possible to poach them in the microwave, 6 minutes in a bowl of water, she said. Bought eggs and muffins, fetched a bowl and set the microwave off doing it's thing whilst I put the washing away. A couple of minutes later...Boom! Turns out I wasn't paying attention and it's supposed to be 6 minutes on half power. Alas, the egg wasn't completely vapourised and it took me significantly longer than 6 minutes to clean the microwave. I had no idea an egg could disintegrate into quite so many tiny pieces.
Amber Half cup of water, half covered for 1-1.5mins depending on microwave, perfectly poached eggs, however scrambled egg in microwave are crap Grin

I've fallen off this thread and weight loss thread too, but not fallen off being a frugaleer or trying to lose weight Wink
Bf has taken up a Sunday walk too so that's beneficial to me too Grin

Happierwithouthim · 09/03/2021 18:49

Em hope ds is feeling better.
