Kind of getting bored of the same dinners all the time (and DD's always moaning) so I've been googling meals on the BBC Good Food website. I'm making creamy chicken stew tomorrow, a butternut squash and sausage pasta bake on Wednesday and a creamy salmon, prawn and almond curry on Friday. Wish me luck!

Wolfcub · 07/03/2021 17:55

Tayto lovely to see you, you must be knackered working all that overtime. I too have been bored with the same things. Some heavily discounted simply cook and hello fresh orders are giving my mojo a bit of a boost and will be cancelled when the offers end. Your recipes sound lovely.

Making peri peri chicken, rice and corn on the cob for tea. Have had my marinade going on the chicken since lunch so I'm hoping it'll be tasty.

Em good news on the wall. Get some huge leafy evergreens in there

Did some more chucking and sorting today, mostly ds's primary school stuff . Found some cracking class photos and reports which made me laugh

Bed stripped and remade. Linen was nearly dry on the line but got rained on (not forecasted) when I went to pick ds up from his dads. He's clearly not slept for three nights and is very wound up. It's been a fun couple of hours (not!)

Well done on George washing dry Mrs and your bargains

I was awake for quite a while in the night listening to a lonely owl shouting for company

I'm not crafty either really. I can do basic crochet and basic cake decorating but I'm nowhere near the standard of the majority on here. I don't have the steady hands or the patience

Gensola · 07/03/2021 19:07

tayto those meals sound amazeballs!

Tonight we are having roasted chicken thighs with lemon and thyme marinade, wilted chard and then a really hearty warm salad of chickpeas, roasted Cherry tomatoes and broccoli florets with a shallot dressing.
Tomorrow will be smoked haddock baked with fennel and dill with celeriac chips and the rest of the Swiss chard.
Tues - Spanish sausage hotpot with peppers, butter beans and smoked paprika
Weds - some sort of pasta with frozen ragu from depths of freezer 😂
Thurs - lentil and coconut dal with rice and peas
Friday - TAKEAWAY Grin

AmberItsACertainty · 07/03/2021 19:53

So after spending the day cleaning I was tired and wanting a quick tea. Bemoaning the egg situation to my friend earlier in the week (love them, no cooker) she mentioned that it's possible to poach them in the microwave, 6 minutes in a bowl of water, she said. Bought eggs and muffins, fetched a bowl and set the microwave off doing it's thing whilst I put the washing away. A couple of minutes later...Boom! Turns out I wasn't paying attention and it's supposed to be 6 minutes on half power. Alas, the egg wasn't completely vapourised and it took me significantly longer than 6 minutes to clean the microwave. I had no idea an egg could disintegrate into quite so many tiny pieces.

Sorry. But 😂😂

Have made similar mistakes here. It’s always egg. And it’s always when you’re super hungry and just want something quick and yum.

I made eggy muffins for lunches this week (made 20. 6 in fridge and the rest frozen)

Have some chicken thighs for roasting/marinading so I can have salad.

Have had a quick squizz in the cupboard and have rice orzo quinoa couscous etc. So can make some yum salads. Might roast some tomatoes in a bit or tomorrow to add to salad. And will cook some chickpeas as I only have dried ones not tinned.

Mrsmadevans · 07/03/2021 20:11

Amber that is something l would do sorry but it is funny thank you for giving us a lol Smile
Lovely food Em & Gen Smile
I am off to watch Dodds , l love it ! Grin

SingToTheSky · 07/03/2021 20:21

Amber :o I have had similar mishaps over the years.

What does orzo taste like em? Like normal pasta?

Mrs I’m tempted by that show, if you mean the crime one on itv? DS saw the advert and wants to watch it but is it ok for an 11yo - I’m assuming not but either way I’ll give it a watch myself first.

NSD. Need to book more dance classes for DD1. She finally agreed to try them on zoom this week and she enjoyed it.

ememem84 · 07/03/2021 20:27

Yep. Just like normal pasta. The dc love it. “Rice pasta” I cook it like normal pasta and add sweetcorns peas peppers chopped tomatoes cucumber and a smidge of butter. Yum. For a quick lunch.

AmberItsACertainty · 07/03/2021 20:31

Me and cooking really don't mix 😂

SingToTheSky · 07/03/2021 20:40

Sounds good em thanks. Would be nice to have something a bit different (but also familiar enough that DS might actually eat it!) - adding to shopping list now :o

Unescorted · 07/03/2021 20:52

In Oz Orzo is known as Risoni ... so your kids aren't that far away with rice pasta em

Eggs and microwaves don't mix Amber. It is not your cooking skills.

wolf does your not anywhere near "d" exh not get him to go to sleep? 3 days without sleep is bordering on torture.

Tayto how are you not falling asleep standing up? It is lovely to see you.

Proud moment of the day - the poor neglected sourdough starter has come back to life. It was last fed sometime in the summer & then I ran out of bread flour. I then continued to neglect it b/c it was at the back of the fridge behind the cocktail onions and capers. I hope to have it back in shape for making a loaf next weekend.

Fearofawelshplanet · 07/03/2021 20:54

NSD..
Cashed in 10 pound from the surveys into my bank, made a Lotus bisc cake it was yum and very easy. Vaccine hasnt affected me up to now, I am very, very lucky.

Mrsmadevans · 07/03/2021 21:05

I would think it was fine for your Ds Sing there is no bad language or obvious sex scenes to me. It started at 8 that is before the watershed Smile
Fear that is brilliant re the vaccinations yay!
A cheer for the sourdough too Unescorted Grin

SingToTheSky · 07/03/2021 21:11

Ahh pleased to be of help lovely Smile
ememem84 · 07/03/2021 21:16

song something else I like is the giant couscous. With roasted tomatoes, red onions, cow feta, herby oil and roasted sweet potato. Mmmmm

Have dug out my lunchboxes and will make some pack ups tomorrow. Wooooo.

Unescorted · 08/03/2021 06:55

DS & I are doing a dry run of getting up in time for school. He isn't due back until Weds, but we do have to get a uniform set - he has grown so much since Christmas and now nothing fits at all.

I will have to sort out his lunches.... including locating boxes.

lifelongfrugaleer · 08/03/2021 06:55

Happy international women's day you fabulous strong wonderful women.

Need bread today

ememem84 · 08/03/2021 08:01

Morning!

Here’s to us strong fabulous wonderful brilliant tiredwomen on international women’s day.

We got this ladies.

ememem84 · 08/03/2021 09:52

spends so far: £420 on renewing professional memberships.

thankfully work will reimburse me for this on payday.

SingToTheSky · 08/03/2021 10:38

Will def try that too em thanks! I used to cook and freeze batches of couscous “filling” (mixed med veg etc) so I just had to reheat and tip the couscous in, I should do that again. DD1 is on a bit of a healthy eating kick too so I might be able to persuade her to try some.

Happy international women’s day to all!

Does anyone have any book recommendations for DS please - he’s 11 and really doesn’t like reading novels. He is enjoying the odd graphic novel at night but also some of those Usborne puzzle adventure books where there are puzzles on each page. I was thinking maybe some choose your own adventure type stuff too? But without being able to browse in the library I’m a bit lost!
