Love very good news for you all fingers crossed you can settle into some security re your Dads stability & care now Flowers
Snuggly l hear you l would love to do a degree in Psychology but l am far too old and my memory is not what it was , also do l want to spend 3 years out of the few l have left studying. l want to relax and watch the telly/read books and go to the seaside/countryside/ national trust estates Grin

Unescorted · 06/03/2021 19:20

Love that is good news - it must be so confusing for him.

Amber there are quite a few creative types on here. North makes the most beautiful quilts, @ChristmasSeacow makes stunning cakes, @lonelyoversharer does all sorts of incredible crafts. We have frugal babies at Art College - my DD and Tight 's DS

Unescorted · 06/03/2021 19:30

em it does my nut in when they do Man talk... quite a few of the people in the village are skilled trades. They used to treat Dh like minor royalty until they realised the site hat and jacket with the company logo that sits in the care are mine.

ememem84 · 06/03/2021 19:56

@Mrsmadevans

Em that is bad news you are having a development behind you but excellent news they are willing to build you a wall and you can plant on top of it too , phew you must be relieved Smile Our garden centres here in Wales are still closed & Dh is fretting about his borders and lawns Grin
It is and isnt mrs.

Out row of houses backs onto the garden of another house. A huge garden. And beyond that is a technical park.

The developer owns both the house and the tech park. He is building 7 4 bedroom three storey houses on the plot the biggest of which (- the detached one with two garages) will be marketed for £1.2m. The rest will go for a minimum of £800k. As starter family homes.

I don’t know anyone who’d pay that sort of money to live next to a very busy tech park. The noise currently is a nightmare because all the beautiful trees in the garden have gone and the natural sound barrier too.

But at least hopefully when the houses go up our sound barrier will be back.

And we won’t be able to see the tech park.

It’s been a day here. The dc have been so so moany and Whiney. I suspect tired. Because god knows I am. But it’s been hard today.

Am currently soaking in the bath with a clay face mask on. It’s gone so dry and crispy I can’t move my face. I may have also left it on for longer than I should have. I do hope my face doesn’t fall off.

SingToTheSky · 06/03/2021 20:24

Mrs the degree will take me 6 years 😬 possibly 5 if I can count a previous module. Then will likely need a postgrad qualification of some kind eventually. I’m 34 now, but had my eldest at 20 and haven’t had any career to speak of (work yes, career no), I just feel like I finally know what I want to do when I grow up 😂 funnily enough I started on this road pre DC but feel like as I’ve circled back to it it’s definitely the right choice IYSWIM.

AmberItsACertainty · 06/03/2021 20:29

North that's good about the overtime and annual leave pay

Fear I went for a walk in the sun today I'm loving it after months of freezing cold and dreary weather.

Mrs I'm going to wait a while. The letter definitely said "do not phone your GP or hospital, they're busy, you'll be invited by letter when it's your turn". I know someone who is a health care worker who them and their colleagues only just got vaccinated so I think my area might still be vaccinating group two.

Snuggly you could try one of those evening courses at a local college, it's usually only 2hrs per week.

Love I'm pleased for your dad. Your family definitely deserves a bit of peace now. The worrying must be so hard on you all.

Em that wall seems a good solution. We had a smaller version in my childhood home garden with small rubbery leaf plants growing in the gap between the walls.

AmberItsACertainty · 06/03/2021 20:40

I want to relax and watch the telly/read books and go to the seaside/countryside/ national trust estates...Mrs oh for lockdown to be over and to be able to live again.

Starter homes for £800k Em that's insane Confused wonder what his logic is with that.

Unescorted blooming scroungers. So do you get treated like royalty now instead? Or is that only something they do to men? People are weird.
Oh so many creatives on here and I never realized. I feel even more at home now.

NSD today. Tackled some difficult things I'd been putting off. Feels good to have made a start.

Unescorted · 06/03/2021 21:09

Do I chuff.... although when I turn up at the sites they are on they all queue up to know me. But only because their site managers have the red carpet out for me. I come carrying cheque book and pen.

ememem84 · 06/03/2021 21:25

amber the logic with the house prices is that they will sell. Bear in mine here on the island space is at a premium. So if you wants the nice house out of town you pays the price.

We think our normal 3 bed end terrace late 70’s build Would go for at least £700k now. Which is insane.

Something else that’s insane...despite these new houses having more bedrooms that ours. The square footage is the same. So the rooms will be teeny. Plus teeny gardens. We were so so lucky to move when we did.

northender · 06/03/2021 23:01

Glad there is better news on your dad love
Christmas does fabulous cakes & knits and has started quilting! She has been in touch recently & is okay but has had a tough few months. She sends her love & said she will come back to the thread at some point.
Just had a lovely evening with HM pizza and watched Officer and a Gentleman with dd. We've already done Flashdance & Pretty in Pink, next is Ghost! She and her friend seem to love all things eighties which is fine by me.
snuggly I'd love a full size magimix but don't have enough space so this is just a jug blender.

ememem84 · 07/03/2021 06:39

Ooh we have a magimix. It’s amazing. Also have a stand mixer which I love because it’s red. Fire engine red. It’s a thing of beauty.

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/03/2021 07:38

Unescorted Grin oh the power.
House prices are bonkers. Ours are expected to rise as the treasury is coming to town. They are already mad in some areas

Frugal win. I got my klm flight voucher refunded £1300 winging it's way back to me.

I have a Kenwood. Never use the jug bit.

maddenlightfoot · 07/03/2021 07:47

Sorry I'm still so far behind... can I use the house move excuse for a little bit longer?!!
Frugality has definitely not returned. So many little things to get. Some essential (shelves for garage - £68.84) some just because (gorgeous art print - £37.50) some so horrendously expensive they need their own category 😱 (curtains and blinds - £1195.06). Also our local shop is now a little Sainsbury's and I can't keep dh - who has been happily wfh for a year not spending a penny - out of it. He spent over £30 there this week so that needs to stop!

March:
NSDs: 3/31
Groceries: £138.42/£390
Everything else: £181.24/£350
Big house purchases: £1195.06

ememem84 · 07/03/2021 08:25

I think house purchases are a necessity if you’ve just moved. So that’s ok.

northender · 07/03/2021 09:00

life I thought of you when there was mention of the Treasury move this week. It was similar when the Met Office moved to Exeter which happened when we were living in Devon & before house prices went completely bonkers in Devon & Cornwall generally.
I've got a family heirloom Kenwood chef from the 1960s but the blender doesn't work hence the separate one.
Going for a walk with dh this morning, then working on the house, assuming that when we can start socialising again we'll have much less time for house stuff. The home office alcove is the target for dh today. Shelves need steadying, space creating and leads hiding. I'm going to work on my sewing corner.

northender · 07/03/2021 09:29

madden house related spends are definitely allowed!

ememem84 · 07/03/2021 09:41

Ffs. Dd is so fucking middle class. She just pointed to fruit and said “mango”

😂

ememem84 · 07/03/2021 09:42

Spent the last half hour or so making eggy muffins for lunches for the week. Yum.

Unescorted · 07/03/2021 09:49

Em Grin

North I am glad sea is OK.

Life I knew you were up north somewhere ... I love the coast up that way. You are getting part of MHCLG too.

Today's birds are a barn owl and and a small nondescript brown thing with a beak slightly longer than a juvenile blackbird. I am enjoying getting to know my birds.

ememem84 · 07/03/2021 09:52

Our big ass pigeon is back. Catface has taken an interest in him. Just hope she doesn’t go for it.

Today I’m riding at 11 and need to go to the shop to get milk and more eggs. I just blitzed through 8 for my muffins.

We seem to go through a ridiculous amount of eggs every week.

Taytocrisps · 07/03/2021 09:53

Sorry I've been missing so much. I'm doing overtime every Saturday so I'm working six day weeks atm. When Sunday rolls around, I have to clean the house. In the evenings, I just want to veg in front of Netflix. Dad's getting vaccinated on Wednesday which is really great news and also my only news. I've a week off at the end of March and my overtime should finish around then also, so you'll see a bit more of me then. DD is back to school on the 15th March but she'll only have two weeks at school before they break up for the Easter holidays. I hope she gets through the last two months of school without any interruptions.

My car insurance quote arrived. I have a choice between sticking with my existing insurance company (€762.33) or switching to a new insurance company (€521.18). That's a no brainer!

Unescorted hope you enjoyed your evening with family/friends.

Mrs wow, super bargain hunting in the Marks sale. Also, delighted you're all done with the vaccinations. You'd a busy morning on Friday - you definitely earned those Werthers!

Love your poor Dad's been through the mill! Hope things settle down for him (and you) now.

Wolf Good luck with your application. Glad the car service/MOT didn't work out too expensive. Brilliant work on the shredding. I need to embark on something similar. I bought a nice expanding folder during the week for things like birth certs/car insurance/life insurance/school paperwork/will (when I get it done) and I'm going to root out the most recent of these policies/documents and file them. Anything older than a year can be shredded. I got a bit of a shock when I realized that I'll only need the school stuff for another 16 months or so Shock. DD will sit her Leaving Certificate (final exams) in June 2022. Obviously I've known this for a while now and we've already been discussing colleges and courses. But it really brought it home to me somehow that she/we'll be moving on to a new phase.

Fear hope you enjoyed your McDs and even better that your DH paid.

Amber your melted toaster story had me in stitches Grin. Although I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time.

Sing sorry they messed up your prescription. Best wishes with the Open University enrolment. Exciting times ahead. I did a tiny bit of psychology in college and I found it really interesting. DD is thinking about a psychology course when she finishes school. Only snag is, you need about a million points to do it. Entry to college here is points based with a few minor exceptions (for example, entry to an art course would probably depend on your portfolio). The results you get in your Leaving Cert. are converted into points. Psychology is a very high demand course and the required points are also very high. I doubt DD will get enough points. I'm hoping there's another way of getting in. For example, if she did a year or two in a PLC course and got good results, she might then be able to transfer into a degree course. I need to look into it more next year. And of course, DD might change her mind between now and next summer.

north work sounds busy but I'm sure the extra income will be nice. You'll really appreciate that holiday in Kefalonia. I watched a few 80s movies with DD last year - she liked 'Dead Poets Society' and 'Bridget Jones's Diary'. She didn't think much of 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' - she couldn't understand why the Andie MacDowell character kept popping up everywhere.

madden hope the house move went ok. Sounds like you're still settling in.

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/03/2021 11:56

Didn't know about mhclg. One of the office contenders is opposite where we are now. Might have a look see

ememem84 · 07/03/2021 12:32
