I don’t like Marmite, but occasionally I need a little bit on my toast. I know, I apologise for my crassness 🤣

Welcome evie, glad you are here.

AmberItsACertainty · 11/02/2021 02:40

The internet keeps kicking me off mid post, so frustrating.

Life I'm with you on the marmite.

Wolf did you make the marmite hot cross buns or do I need to start checking packaging to make sure I get the plain ones?

Adora you remind me of my DP when he eats cheese and onion crisps because they remind him of happy times, even though he doesn't like them.

Gen I was wondering about 2WW too. Thought perhaps something to do with the second world war. Got that wrong then Grin

Evie I'm glad you saw a way through and are still here Flowers

Unescorted that's amazing clearing such a large debt. Respect to you.

Eileen I'm decluttering too, little by little. Therapeutic isn't it. Smile

Today wasn't the best, I got a parking fine Sad Frugal fail.

Wolfcub · 11/02/2021 06:39

Amber I bought them. I have now tried them and I do not recommend them. They are not pleasant

North I hate to think what my energy bill is going to look like. Everything whirrs all the time. Boiler, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher - it is a constant hum of activity.

On the plus side I am using the cold snap to get my orchid to flower.

Unescorted · 11/02/2021 06:45

Wolf thanks for taking one for the team.

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/02/2021 07:14

Did my meter reading yesterday and a massive jump.
Ah that's a shame wolf.
Oh dear on the parking fine, how annoying.

ememem84 · 11/02/2021 07:21

Iceland had vegemite the other day. I stocked up....

I had no idea there were so many Mayo hating wierdos on the thread. 😂

ememem84 · 11/02/2021 07:22

wolf dsis loved them. I’m yet to try. But dsis is a marmite in mash potato with cheese type of gal.

Also another wierd one here. Peanut butter and cheese. Has to be cheddar though.

Mrsmadevans · 11/02/2021 07:46

Em it is weird isn't it, bit claggy but delicious though. I am going to try your Dsis recipe of mash marmite And cheese it sounds like a la Carte to me 😂

Mrsmadevans · 11/02/2021 07:48

I dread reading the meters tbh. In fact they have been demanding a reading from me and l have not responded 😂 talk about burrying heads in sand 🙄

Mrsmadevans · 11/02/2021 07:50

Amber l hate when that happens 🙄 we have been done for venturing into bus lanes several times in Cardiff because we don't know where they are and aren't familiar with the layout 🙄

Mrsmadevans · 11/02/2021 07:53

Off to MumBobs now going to treat us to a Valentine meal from Marks for DH birthday tomorrow so really it is my treat as well 😁
Have a great day everyone
No Snow here though!

Happierwithouthim · 11/02/2021 08:38

Confession time - not being from the UK I've never had marmite or vegemite, which one should I try first? Or should I bother?

evie glad you saw that finances can be overcome and your life is so much more than just that.

unescorted I didn't know your starting point here.

€1 on ptfe tape, which I actually don't need now. Alternative uses for ptfe tape anyone?

Landlady reimbursing me for my tank of gas
Dog chased an animal in the ditch last night and dragged me along the ground on my knee until I got my hands down to stop myself. I've one very cut and bruised knee and several cuts on the heel of both hands. Shook me up.

Interestingly my electricity bill has reduced since I moved to rental, will see what happens with it when I move into my own house. We're out all day so I'd imagine it'll be similar and better insulated house too

ememem84 · 11/02/2021 09:00

@Mrsmadevans

oh so good!

Dsis makes the best mash. you don't need much marmite, just a smidge. but loads of cheese.
dm also puts mustard (the grainy stuff) in her mash sometimes to give it that extra kick.

the furthest i've gone is to stir in philly cheese.

happier marmite. definetly. but buy a small jar just i case you don't like it. also substitutes for beef stock in spag bol etc if you need it.

Eileen101 · 11/02/2021 10:45

Happier - marmite! Hot toast with butter and marmite 👌

Amber - it really is! Even when a load of it is just in bags in the pantry ready for the charity shop reopening, I feel like the house is a bit better. Have made circa £50 on eBay in a week and a bit, so definitely worthwhile.

Heating in our house is a lost cause at the moment I think! It's cold outside and my youngest really feels the cold. Husband appears to have got the hang of 'jumper before heating' though thankfully.

Trying to think of some kind of budget comfort food for tonight, but completely failing. Everything I fancy, i can't have Envy with BF a cmpa baby. Counting down the weeks to macaroni cheese 😋

ememem84 · 11/02/2021 11:03

eileen i hear you re heating. our house is an end terrace 1978 build. the old owners had minimal heating. usually this isn't an issue but with both dh and i working from home we are feeling the cold.

I am a staunch believer in more clothes before heating goes on as is dh. but we are cold today. i think its zero degrees outside.

at present we are both working in the dining room/living room. we have the heater on, kitchen door closed to stop draft from catflap (although cat face wants to go in and out so she's a pest). dh has just taped up a draft in the french doors on the dining room side (these will be replaced with a window once we do the refurb). i'm wearing fingerless gloves, and a scarf and have my neck hot water bottle on . and slippers. much cosier now. Smile

dreading going into the garage to sort the laundry out....single block and no heating it will be freezing in there. although on the plus side, no need to put ice in drinks or the drinks (tonic water/beers/wine/diet coke etc) in the fridge as they are a perfect chilled temperature. haha!

my go to comfort foods are:

mash potato - you could do this without butter and milk - oil maybe (although it probably wouldn't be the same....or use no dairy milk...lacto free stuff?)
pasta pasto and bacon
fish fingers and beans.

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/02/2021 11:03

Do you want me to send you some happie

ememem84 · 11/02/2021 12:38

£183 very.co.uk via top cash back on a new car seat for ds. he's almost at the weight limit for his current one. its the same brand, and same fixing (isofix) which does make things more expensive but its more convenient.... should be with us in 3 days. he's unlikely to need it within that time....

and it will last him until he's 12. or reaches the height limit.

Happierwithouthim · 11/02/2021 13:04

No thanks life although you're very kind, it's available in Iceland and homesavers in the town I grocery shop in!

Happierwithouthim · 11/02/2021 13:05

Most of dd's friends haven't used carseats in years, she's almost 11, I'm still getting away with it but her df doesn't bother Sad

Happierwithouthim · 11/02/2021 13:36

She's probably definitely is tall enough to go without it but I'm happier with her using it.

Mrsmadevans · 11/02/2021 13:37

Em it sounds cold with you lovely Brrrr! l will try that mash it sounds delish! Smile Good car seat too will last him forever ! Smile
It is so cold here today l am freezing !

ememem84 · 11/02/2021 13:38

ds is only 3 so really should be in one. but his current one is only up to 18kg. and he's pushing that now. its something i thought about about 6 months ago. and have only just re-thought about it. oops.

but at least it will last him until he's older. cannot wait until we no longer have to use them though. going to try and sell his current one on fb. its in really good nick and is one of the spinny round ones which was a massive help. ds gets in and out on his own now though so we don't have to lift him. thank god.

Unescorted · 11/02/2021 13:48

Happier go with Vegemite.

Sleeping bag and hot water bottle combo here. The heating goes on from 6- 8:30 and then from 4 until I go to bed.... it must turn off at some point I am just not sure because I am tucked up in my toasty warm bed. The morning heating is a change for us... there didn't seem much point if we were all out for the day. We are a leap out of bed and throw ourselves out the door type of family normally.

I am having a better day today - I got an unprompted apology for yesterday. I nearly fell off my perch.

AdoraBell · 11/02/2021 14:22

I use my dressing gown and a scarf, over a wool jumper and T shirt/top, plus a fleece blanket if my legs are still cold.

Ouch at the injuries Happier hope you feel better soon

Me NSD
DH bought himself MacDonalds while I had my appointment at the hospital, orthopaedic surgeon. Confirmed what I had thought, simple break, use pain relief and get back on it sooner rather than later. But they have to check sometimes.
