@SingToTheSky

Our dishwasher arrived. A momentous occasion :o
Wahoooo!!!!!

Tight yep agree with that. when i went to uni (all those years ago) there wasn't a uni here on island. so i had to go to the UK or France. for a lot of kids here it is all about leaving the island.

ememem84 · 08/02/2021 13:23

£89 in iceland. went in for tinned tomatoes. guess what i forgot....

i did however come back with:

around 7 different packs of biscuits, soreen malt loaf minis, a litre of soy sauce and the same of sweet chilli sauce, frozen fruit and veg to stock up freezer (we also needed this), crispy shredded chicken (3 varieties), cornflour (also needed), beans, spaghetti hoops, soup and about 11 naan bread packs - we eat these a lot, and they were only 53p each and will freeze.

oh and a 24 pack of diet coke and some milk and vegemite.

i came back and dh rolled his eyes at the shopping. but we will use it all.

Tightwad2020 · 08/02/2021 13:45

Congrats on the new dishwasher! I remember getting my first one in 2001 and feeling utterly bowled over by the sheer luxury of it. It does change the job you don't want to do - no-one likes seeing a machine full of clean crockery (although that is why you bought the thing) because that means you have to empty and put away! Madness, but it is an ongoing niggle with offspring.

Ooh, forgot about a good spend yesterday. Finally found a knife block that will fit inside our cutlery drawers (from ProCook, bamboo, £22) and it arrived yesterday. After 8 years of grumbling, I finally can put my knives away neatly and safely. Of course, they are all blunt as hell because they've just been rolling around in the drawer, so getting them sharpened is the next task.

£44 in Aldi this morning. Did a wicked confit duck leg yesterday, have finally worked out how to have duck that is both cooked through, crisp AND tender. Everyone happy with latest culinary development, including the dog.

ememem84 · 08/02/2021 13:59

tight oh i love duck. sadly duck doesn't love me. apparently there's an enzyme in duck which some people react too. the only way i can eat it is chinese style - crispy and in pancakes. le yum.

agree re dishwasher. i hate emptying it. but love the fact that once its emptied in the morning, i can just fill it up during the day and bosh it on before we go to bed. (dm would say never to do this because what if it explodes/leaks or something but i like to live on the wild side...plus cat face would come up and moan at me if the kitchen floor was wet...)

am writing appraisal feedback for colleagues this afternoon. something i really don't want to do. but meh. must be done.

in office tomorrow. dh needs me to go to next to return all the things i bought him for christmas (i managed to buy him pj's with shorts. again....) and ds needs a couple of new jumpers as he's grown again. like a weed that kid...

SnugglySnerd · 08/02/2021 16:57

Congratulations on your dishwasher Sing! Enjoy listening to the sound of the washing up happening!!

Rubbish day today, internet has been playing up which has made teaching my classes very hard and I haven't been able to set up my lessons for tomorrow because it kept crashing. It left me with a choice between giving up or throwing the laptop out of the window. I went for the former which means I now have to set up all my lessons this evening.

Nsd though so that's good.

SingToTheSky · 08/02/2021 17:17

I hate emptying the dishwasher too 😂 freshly washed glasses feel WEIRD. Especially when still hot. Ugh. But. Still worth it :o

Takeaway tonight so will be a bit spendy - DD1’s choice as despite her struggles she got a pretty good report from school today 💖

Wolfcub · 08/02/2021 17:54

Yay on the dishwasher. I've managed to avoid superb Owl results all day so am watching it now.

Fearofawelshplanet · 08/02/2021 18:10

But **not bit...

AdoraBell · 08/02/2021 18:34

Hooray for the dishwasher Sing 😀

em that sounds similar to my shopping trips 🤣

We’ve had just a light flurry of snow, hasn’t settled, it feels bloody freezing though.

DH popped out to top up the ibuprofen and came back with cake.

Thanks for the well wishes, can’t remember who asked how I broke it but I was cleaning the kitchen floor - see, housework is is dangerous- and turned round but forgot about the angled sticky-out legs on the stools 🤦‍♀️ I have an appointment with the orthopaedic surgeon, they called today saying they want to see me following the X-ray.

Unescorted · 08/02/2021 18:40

YaY for the dishwasher. I have yet to meet someone who likes emptying them. With us all at home it is on twice a day.... I am becoming very good at ignoring it.

I have had a properly shit day at work - I was bollocked for not doing something that no one told me I had to do. Hey Ho....

Fear we have mugs that go walkies along with plates and the sharp knives (me either)

Tightwad2020 · 08/02/2021 18:54

Gen - the At Your Beat/At Your Gaff Zoom classes start at £5 per class and then there are a lot of membership/monthly pass deals that could represent great value. I used to spend quite a lot on yoga each month (£90 - £120 per month), then I stopped and switched to a gym membership that was about £25 per month and which had a lot of classes, including yoga. Then lockdown and I just have got used to not paying for my exercise!

Em - at least you can enjoy the delights of crispy duck pancakes. There was a time in my life, and DH's, when crispy duck takeaway and an episode or two of the West Wing was our favourite Friday night.

Roused myself today to tackle some of the skirting boards with a paintbrush, and some grotty little corners that just won't scrub up any more and need a paint touch up. In this light, at any rate, they are looking rather nice. THings I have not done today: French listening and writing practice; exercise.

ememem84 · 08/02/2021 18:57

Dh put most of the bbq in the dishwasher today. All came out ok....

Am watching Dd in the bath. She’s learned to say “bubble pop!”

lifelongfrugaleer · 08/02/2021 19:25

£44 milk bill, £40 Sainsbury's
Lots of house stress today.
Why do people ask you to fill in a form then send it as a PDF. FFS.

Ouch adorable.
Cutie em
Yah for the dishwasher.

Mrsmadevans · 08/02/2021 23:34

Woken at 6.20 this morning by Bob's Dd, Mum had fallen going to the loo , she was fine thankfully but l have spent most of the day up there making sure she is ok. Came home to find the washing machine has broken . l put on a load this morning before l went, it has leaked everywhere. Tried it on a spin but it won't work think the motor has gone hmm Nevermind it's only a little blip in the scheme of things.
Hope everyone is ok Smile

SingToTheSky · 08/02/2021 23:36

Sounds like a tough day mrsmad 💐

The dishwasher cleaned things.

I have not emptied it. 😂

PeanutButtaCups · 09/02/2021 01:12

Hiya everyone, we’ve had snow today. Not loads but it’s covered the ground, I don’t think we’ll get any more now though. DM drove me to my appointment today, everything seems fine with baby which is brilliant. Not long to go now!. We went out in the snow today, and then did a snow pizza activity. I’m shattered now, haven’t been sleeping super well lately but hopefully it’ll get better. On a more positive note, the gaviscon has done wonders and I feel so much better so thank you to everyone who suggested it!.

Ooh I love duck tight, I haven’t had it in ages I might need to get some!.

Great news about your dishwasher sing!

Sorry about the Internet playing up snuggly!

Sorry to hear about the bad day at work unescorted💐

Glad to hear your mums okay mrs! I hope you’re able to fix the washing machine!

Another NSD, however I’ve made a list of everything I still haven’t got for the baby and I’m going to try and get it all tomorrow, so that could be quite spendy!

SnugglySnerd · 09/02/2021 06:36

Snow overnight here too, not loads but a covering.

Hope you have a better day today Mrs.

lifelongfrugaleer · 09/02/2021 07:03

Snow yesterday and over night
Enough to be a pain with the roads last night.

We do drink a lot of milk. 22 pints a week, they are delivered as well so always a bit more from the milk man.

ememem84 · 09/02/2021 07:22

I thought 22 pints was a lot. That’s roughly 10 litres I think. We get through maybe 7 litres a week currently because of wfh. We’re having better breakfasts and more tea and coffee at home.

No snow here. Just blaaaardddddy freezing.

I’m in the office this morning. Taking the dc to nursery first then walking from nursery to work. It’s a lovely walk by the marina. But. It’ll be chilly today.

Also have to stop in next to return dh’s Christmas gifts and get ds some warmy jumpers.

Wolfcub · 09/02/2021 07:29

22 pints ShockI barely get through two a week

Unescorted sorry work was shit that was a crappy thing to have happened. It's amazing how many seniors expect you to be psychic and are also appallingly bad at giving clear instruction

OP posts:
lifelongfrugaleer · 09/02/2021 10:19

Yip, not a typo.

That's is shit unescorted. Sorry meant to say last night. Bad bad management

Mrsmadevans · 09/02/2021 11:07

Life by my reckoning that is a good price for the milk delivered 50p a pint if l am right in my costings , we have just stopped the milk being delivered for a few reasons , main one being the milk was going off, we used to pay 70p a pint !
Em that walk to work sounds lovely ! Enjoy Next too!
Snuggly thank you Smile my Dd1 is seeing to Mum today & she is fine Smile so l am having a day off and looking for the washing machine online Smile No snow here either !
Have a lovely day everyone, sun is shining now, it's freezing but ahhh that sun gives us such a good feeling Smile

AdoraBell · 09/02/2021 11:28

Mrs hope your DM isn’t too sore after her fall.

Unescorted did you make it clear no one told you, or is it just excepted that you know? Either way, sorry you had a rough day.

Glad the Gaviscon is doing the trick Peanut

Well done on the skirting board painting Tight

£72.62 grocery delivery, DH will deal with it.
